Today we celebrate the ♦️𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗔𝗥𝗬♦️ of the compilation double album 🎶“𝗔 𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗖𝗘 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗨𝗦 𝗧𝗢 𝗗𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗠“🎶 which offers a retrospective on 20 years of Placebo's creative output. It was released six years ago on October 7th 2016 as part of the band's 20th anniversary celebrations and reached no. 21 in the UK Albums Chart. The compilation was released as double CD, digital download and as limited edition deluxe box set pink vinyl and black vinyl. It was accompanied by a 32-page booklet featuring previously unpublished photos. Brian wrote a beautiful foreword to the album which you can read below.

”A place for us to dream” consists of 36 tracks, including songs off albums, single versions, radio edits, live performances and redux editions of previously released tracks. It includes all Placebo songs that have been released as singles, apart from "Burger Queen Français", "Twenty Years" and "The Never-Ending Why".
The compilation's title ”A place for us to dream” comes from the lyrics of the song "Narcoleptic" that can be found on Placebo's third studio album “Black market music”. The album cover is a picture taken during the 2011 Vancouver Stanley Cup riot (explanation below).

Ladies and Gentlemen, and those of you who find yourselves in-between.
There’s a story in here somewhere, though I’m still not sure what it’s about. It’s a long movie that jumps forwards and backwards in time. There are two main characters, a very important supporting role, and guys who hit objects for a living who come and go.
Every now and then there’s a glorious cameo.
I don’t know what it all means, even though I’m the one who edited the film. I still haven’t watched it back all way through. Please have the courage to do what I can’t. Watch it from beginning to end. Take one long deep breath, allowing it all into your body as a whole and recognise the sensation in your soul. I’m still too afraid to do so.
This album is for you, not for me.

📷 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗔𝗟𝗕𝗨𝗠 𝗖𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗥
The picture was taken on June 15th 2011 by photojournalist Richard Lam during the Vancouver Stanley Cup riot and became worldwide famous as “𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗶𝗼𝘁 𝗞𝗶𝘀𝘀“. According to Brian it's “𝑎𝑏𝑜𝑢𝑡 𝑏𝑒𝑎𝑢𝑡𝑦 𝑎𝑚𝑜𝑛𝑔𝑠𝑡 𝑐ℎ𝑎𝑜𝑠. 𝐼𝑡'𝑠 𝑎𝑏𝑜𝑢𝑡 𝑙𝑜𝑣𝑒 𝑎𝑚𝑜𝑛𝑔𝑠𝑡 𝑣𝑖𝑜𝑙𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑒 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑒𝑟“.

The Stanley Cup Final 2011 took place between the Vancouver Canucks and Boston Bruins. The Canucks' defeat sent the team's fans into a frenzy and ended in a riot. The police had to intervene to contain the chaos that had settled in the city. Also passers-by who just wanted to go home were stuck in the riot. And among these people was the couple featured on the cover.

This couple, Alex Thomas and her Australian boyfriend Scott Jones, were not participating in the riot. But they were in the street as the police stepped in. Alex was pushed by a police officer, inhaled tear gas and fell to the ground. She began to panic and shake. So Scott leaned over her and tried to calm and comfort her with a kiss. Richard Lam captured this moment in his iconic photograph which was called "the most compelling sports image of the year" by Sports Illustrated. First many viewers suspected the scene had been staged but evidence soon revealed the truth.
In June 2016 it was reported that Alex and Scott have moved to Perth, Australia, where they sleep under a poster of their “Riot Kiss“.

At least 140 people were injured during thus incident, one of them critically. Four people were stabbed and nine police officers were hurt in the riot. Alltogether 101 people were arrested. In 2015, four years after the riot, the police investigation was finished. It led to 887 charges against more than 300 people.

“𝐉𝐄𝐒𝐔𝐒' 𝐒𝐎𝐍” was released as vinyl single on August 19th 2016, so today we celebrate its sixth ♦️𝐀𝐍𝐍𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐀𝐑𝐘♦️. The song was Placebo's first sign of life after the album ”Loud like love” in September 2013, which marked a drastic change in their musical style. So everyone wondered what the new single would sound like.

The song was written by Brian, Stefan, Steve Forrest and Bill Lloyd. It was recorded at RAK Studios in London and produced and mixed by Adam Noble. Fiona Brice was responsible for the string arrangement.
The cover of the single features Brian's son Cody wearing an oxygen mask. On the b-side of “Jesus' son“ you can find the Talk Talk cover “Life's what you make it“. The original was released as single in 1985, it peaked at no. 16 in the UK Singles Chart and reached the Top 20 in numerous other countries. Brian described both tracks on Placebo's new record as ”possibly two of the most commercial that we’ve ever done” (see quotes below).


Apart from the limited 7" vinyl “Jesus' son“ was also released on the EP “Life's what you make it“ and the compilation album “A place for us to dream“, both released on October 7th 2016. The album title is borrowed from a line in the lyrics of “Narcoleptic“, a song from the band's 2000 album “Black market music“.


The music clip for “Jesus' son“ was shot at Scivu beach in Sardinia. ”I saw a video of a little festival that is called Duna Jam. Bands that played in Sardinia on this wonderful beach, and I said: that’s the place for my song”, Brian explained why he chose this special region.

📌 𝗟𝗢𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗜𝗡𝗙𝗢 📌
Duna Jam is a private festival held in Sardinia, Italy and active since 2006. Because of the unorthodox nature of the festival the audience is limited to 150 and more of a party than a proper festival. The event spans roughly an entire week with bands performing throughout that time period. Duna Jam is held on various parts of the island and much of the details are kept in secrecy, adding to the mysterious and inclusive nature of Duna Jam. Almost all of the live performances are held outside. As most events worldwide the festival was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to covid but this year in July it finally took place again.

Music video commissioner John Moule brought Placebo into contact with Joe Connor and Brian entrusted Joe with the video direction. Connor: ”The guys were lovely, and on the shoot day they were nothing but wonderful professionals. I had a great day working with them.”
The music clip for “Jesus' son“ combines shots of the band dressed in white and performing barefooted at the beach alongside traditional Sardinian carnival figures wearing bovine masks and sheepskin clothing. ◾ Over recent years the band have become increasingly frustrated with rampant online ticket touting, leading Brian to lend his support to the FanFair Alliance, a new initiative to curb the practice.

We grabbed five minutes with him at the FanFair launch to learn more... ◾

🔸 𝘼𝙨 𝙖𝙣 𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙨𝙩 𝙬𝙝𝙤’𝙨 𝙗𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙡𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧 20 𝙮𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙨, 𝙝𝙤𝙬 𝙙𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙛𝙚𝙚𝙡 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙬𝙩𝙝 𝙞𝙣 𝙨𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙧𝙮 𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙠𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 ?
I think the brazen profiteering of these corporations is absolutely scandalous. I can only speak for myself and my band – Placebo certainly do not want our fans to be victims of this unethical profiteering. It appears to be institutionalized, the laws against this aren’t enforced and music fans are unaware that they’re being ripped off by fat cats in suits.

To educate myself, to speak to other artists and try to get them involved in the campaign and to use whatever platform I have to spread the message.

It gets to a point where people in difficult economic times can’t afford to go to shows, so this practice impacts both the fans and the artists as well. Not solely on a financial level, but, as an artist, you want your venue to be filled with people having a good time. That’s what you live for. It’s the kind of energy that feeds your soul, it affects us that way.

This situation affects new bands too. If a ticket costs £30 but is offered on a secondary ticketing site for £60 and someone buys it, they won’t have the spare cash to spend £10 on seeing a smaller band. It makes it more difficult for up and coming artists.

🔸 𝘿𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙛𝙚𝙚𝙡 𝙥𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 ?
No, not at all. I think it’s just the beginning. I’m passionate about this and I intend to make as many people as possible aware of this scandalous behaviour. Hopefully this is a movement that can go global, eventually.

Thank you, thank you very much ! Yesterday was the supermoon ! Did everybody see the supermoon yesterday ? I was very very excited about this, so I went out onto the streets of Milan looking for the supermoon ! Yes ! Yes, yes, yes, I did. And the supermoon in Milan was much smaller than it was in other places.

But as I was walking around the streets of Milan, I took this picture ! That's the supermoon. And if you look really carefully, I seem to have taken a picture of a UFO as well.

But we're not going to talk about life on other planets tonight. Tonight, we're going to talk about water. We are 80% water. All human beings are 80% water and if the moon and the super moon can have an effect on the ocean, then it can have an effect on us ! Yes.

Did anybody sleep really badly last night ? I did. Anybody have a headache ? Yeah, okay. So did I. Yeah, but the thing about water is that it gives you life and it can kill you too. But we're running out of water. All right. And soon, if we don't take care of our water, we're going to head towards an environmental apocalypse. And an environmental apocalypse means the end of our species, which maybe we deserve because we have been using this planet like a garbage can! But anyway. So when we all die because we don't have any water anymore, I'll see you on the other side. Okay. Whatever the fuck that is, or whatever dimension that is. Or I'll see you in a parallel universe where Leonard Cohen is right now. You know why ? Because Soulmates Never Die.

🔹 On Monday 14 November 2016, a 𝑺𝒖𝒑𝒆𝒓 𝑴𝒐𝒐𝒏, or its scientific name 𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒈𝒆𝒆-𝒔𝒚𝒛𝒚𝒈𝒚, was observed.

🔹 The supermoon is a phenomenon that occurs 4 to 6 times a year, so it is not that rare after all. It occurs every 1 year and 48 days. Two conditions prevail for its appearance, the Moon must be full and the distance between the Earth and the Moon has to be minimal.

🔹 On Monday 14 November 2016, the Moon was only 356,500 kilometers from the Earth. The average distance between the Earth and the Moon is 384,400 km. The Moon appears larger and brighter, but it is almost imperceptible to the naked eye.

🔹 This event is a joy for astronomy enthusiasts because it is an opportunity to take beautiful pictures of the phenomenon, unless you have the necessary equipment of course ! 😊

An ingenious way to mention Leonard Cohen who passed away just few days before this live show and to make the transition to introduce the next song Soulmates 💝

On December 15th, 2016, Placebo performed one of their 20-years-anniversary concerts at 𝑾𝒆𝒎𝒃𝒍𝒆𝒚 𝑨𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒂 in London. That night, there was an afterparty organized after the show where Losers’ frontman, producer, radio presenter – and Brian’s friend! - Eddy Temple Morris was invited to play a DJ set.

On the next day, Eddy posted the picture you can see below on his 𝑰𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒎 𝒂𝒄𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒕 with the following words:
📢 “Was such a huge pleasure to see this old friend again and tell him he was responsible for my crying at a gig for the fourth time in my life. I felt very honoured to have been asked to play the after show by him - for old times sake."
To tell you more about the evening at Wembley, I’d like to share some excerpts of Eddy’s 𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐕𝐈𝐄𝐖 he once did for 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆𝒃𝒐 𝑺𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒚 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒋𝒆𝒄𝒕. He beautifully talked about overwhelming emotions he experienced during Placebo show, recalled the times when his friendship with Brian began and revealed his profound feelings he’s got for Placebo in his heart.

📢 𝑬𝒅𝒅𝒚 𝑻𝒆𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒆-𝑴𝒐𝒓𝒓𝒊𝒔: That was the first time I actually met them. I'd seen them playing before in a gig, I'd seen them already at festivals, but MTV was where we first met, in 1998. It was a Placebo special on MTV. But I think they kind of liked my vibe and they asked MTV: 'Can Eddy do the interview?' So, I was very touched. And that was the first time we met. They played a gig, and I did the interview with Brian, Stef and Steve at that time. And then Brian suggested that we went to a pub afterwards and had a few drinks, a chat, exchanged numbers and stay touched and over the years we became friends.

📢 𝑬𝒅𝒅𝒚 𝑻𝒆𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒆-𝑴𝒐𝒓𝒓𝒊𝒔: It's the only interview that I have ever done with them. I would like to say – we became friends, I mean, me and Brian. And the next time we hang out was when I asked him to sing on my first album, the Losers first album. And he sang. I always wanted to do a cover of Summertime Rolls by Jane's Addiction. I thought there are only two people who can sing this song, aside from Perry Farrell. It could be Rob Harvey from The Music or Brian. I just asked Brian would he want to do it, he said: 'Yes, I love that song!" The rest is history.

And then I saw them at Wembley. And this amazing thing happened. The moment when they stopped playing and they just looked at the crowd. And the crowd started clapping. You know the one? And they clap, clap, clap, and clap. You know, at any normal gig a band say 'Thank you' and they come over playing after thirty seconds of clapping. They just let it happen. They just kept it going for minutes, and minutes, and minutes, didn't they? They just kept it going. If you leave a crowd normally to clap, they'll slowly stop clapping. But this is Placebo crowd just clapped like louder, louder and cheered screamed, louder and louder. And, you know, it was so much love there that I started crying. I had tears came up of my eyes because, you know, it was an emotion, it's really hard, you have to be some kind of a sociopath – not really, to react to that. Like involuntarily tears stared coming down my face, it was just such a moving moment. And it was only the fourth time in my life when I had tears at a gig. That was really special moment to me.

𝑨𝒏𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒔𝒊𝒚𝒂 𝑳𝒐𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒐𝒗𝒂: [...] What do you think about Placebo albums? Maybe you have a favourite one or ... a special one for you.
📢 𝑬𝒅𝒅𝒚 𝑻𝒆𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒆-𝑴𝒐𝒓𝒓𝒊𝒔: I guess it's different albums for different moods. I think my favourite track of Placebo is Pure Morning… I met Phil Vinall yesterday who was the producer of that track. And I said to him honestly if I have to take one Placebo song away and it was only one Placebo song that I'd listen to the rest of my life it would be Pure Morning. And he did that track. If you had to take one Placebo album with me to a desert island, I think it would be Sleeping with Ghosts bonus disk with only covers on it because there I got them doing T. Rex, I got them doing Kate Bush, I got them doing Pixies. There’s something really special about these covers. I love Placebo songs, but I really loved when they take a cover and they make it their own somebody else's song. And it's always cool songs because Brian has such a great taste…

𝑨𝒏𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒔𝒊𝒚𝒂 𝑳𝒐𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒐𝒗𝒂: I've seen a photo of Brian on your Instagram and you wrote that you had played some music after the show at Wembley. Did I understand correctly?
📢 𝑬𝒅𝒅𝒚 𝑻𝒆𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒆-𝑴𝒐𝒓𝒓𝒊𝒔: Yes. So, Brian very sweetly asked for me to go DJ after that 20-years show at Wembley. I've got to see him a little after during my set and he came and I gave him a hug and a kiss, we had a chat. More profoundly he called me few weeks after that, just said: 'Listen, I wanted to say…' It was very sweet call, very, very honest. He called and said: 'I just wanted to say that I love you, I miss you and we asked you to come and play, not anyone else. We ask you for a reason because you've always been there for us and we've always been there for you. We just want to tell you that we love you that's why we wanted you to do this. It means a lot to us that you were there. You are kind of one of us'. I was very touched by that. And it was a huge honour to do; I mean that playing the aftershow. A gig of that size, a gig of this quality of a band what I really, really love. And I really do love Brian, he's a great guy – incredibly talented, very interesting character. So, I was really, really happy to do that.

𝑨𝒏𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒔𝒊𝒚𝒂 𝑳𝒐𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒐𝒗𝒂: It was the first time you played after Placebo gig as I understand. Or had you played before?
📢 𝑬𝒅𝒅𝒚 𝑻𝒆𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒆-𝑴𝒐𝒓𝒓𝒊𝒔: I think I played before. Think we did some festivals like MTV, and I was DJ'ing there. But it had nothing to do with them; I just had to be there. And sometimes I play before or after bands at these festivals. But this was like the first time when they did the anniversary show. Placebo fans and the band I feel like one big family. Brian coming and giving me a hug at the aftershow stuff. It definitely felt… and Stef giving me a hug and saying: 'Hello', and their manager… It all feels like a family. It all feels very warm and very valued, very close. I was very, very touched to be asked to do that.

𝑨𝒏𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒔𝒊𝒚𝒂 𝑳𝒐𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒐𝒗𝒂: Yes, it's a real sweet moment and I can understand you. You have been friends for a long time and as for me, it's interesting. Did Placebo influence you? [...]
📢 𝑬𝒅𝒅𝒚 𝑻𝒆𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒆-𝑴𝒐𝒓𝒓𝒊𝒔: Well, it's an interesting question. Have Placebo influenced me? I would say I use the word that is stronger for me –'inspiration'. They inspired me. And Brian has inspired me. And I feel there were points in my life where I needed to have Placebo musically just to help me get through. You know, to inspire me. I never listened to Placebo song and thought 'I want to write a song like this'. But I might listen to Placebo song and think 'it's so eloquent, the way that melody works with those lyrics.’ I definitely find Brian's lyrics very inspiring. I think he is a fantastic lyrics writer. I mean I love Placebo's music; they're one of my favourite bands of all time but I think not enough is said about what a great lyricist he is. And I often find myself just walking down the road like singing Placebo song all day long or just singing, maybe, just one line of Placebo song. It could be ‘Twenty years ago’, it could be a line from 'Nancy Boy' or just a line from couple years ago, it could be 'My computer thinks I’m gay I threw that piece of junk away On the Champs-Elysées'. I like singing a line to myself again and again. So, I'd say that rather than influence because like… I'm older than all of these guys. So, my influence has come from the very similar place, you know, from T. Rex or from Nine Inch Nails or whatever. So, I would say I'm inspired rather than influenced by Placebo but massively inspired and I do have a really strong emotional response to their music.

🔸I personally find the cover of 𝐴 𝑃𝑙𝑎𝑐𝑒 𝐹𝑜𝑟 𝑈𝑠 𝑇𝑜 𝐷𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑚 quite powerful. The story behind this photograph is a bit unexpected and I am not surprised Placebo decided to use to illustrate their 20 𝑦𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝑐𝑎𝑟𝑒𝑒𝑟. What this picture is about ?🔸

⭐𝑩𝒂𝒄𝒌𝒈𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒅⭐
💠In June 2011, the Vancouver Canucks and Boston Bruins were playing each other in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final. The Canucks' defeat sent the team's fans into a frenzy and ended in a 𝑟𝑖𝑜𝑡 𝑖𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑐𝑖𝑡𝑦 𝑜𝑓 𝑉𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑜𝑢𝑣𝑒𝑟. The police had to intervene to contain the chaos that had settled in the city. Among the people present were also passers-by who just wanted to go home. And among these people was the couple featured on the cover of 𝐴 𝑃𝑙𝑎𝑐𝑒 𝐹𝑜𝑟 𝑈𝑠 𝑇𝑜 𝐷𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑚.

This photo was taken by photojournalist 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗟𝗮𝗺 who was covering the event that night. The photo became known around the world as '𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑹𝒊𝒐𝒕 𝑲𝒊𝒔𝒔 ', because it had a worldwide impact due to the striking contradiction between the two situations.

This couple (𝑆𝑐𝑜𝑡𝑡 𝐽𝑜𝑛𝑒𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐴𝑙𝑒𝑥 𝑇ℎ𝑜𝑚𝑎𝑠) were not participating in the riot. They were in the wrong place at the wrong time. They were stuck in the street as the police launched a charge. Alex was pushed by a police officer and inhaled tear gas and fell to the ground. She began to shake and panic. As a result, Scott leaned over her to try to calm her down in kissing her.💠

From my personal point of view, this photograph totally fits the world of Placebo, which always strives for the best in tormented songs. Light in the darkness. It was a genius idea to choose this photo to illustrate the 20 years of Placebo.The band has been through so much and has always overcome the problems they faced within the band. The picture can be seen as a mirror to Placebo's career.

These words were characteristic of the entire last Placebo world tour with which the band celebrated 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝟐𝟎𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐝𝐞𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐛𝐮𝐦.
And today, we commemorate this amazing and at the same time, perhaps the most touching Placebo ride, which began on October 13, 2016 and ended on October 24, 2017 with 90 concerts across Europe, Australia and Mexico.

We all know it didn't turn out the best. It is likely that Brian's very fragile mental state, along with new medication, caused his mental collapse.
The gig in Aarhus had to end after the first two songs.
Still, how painful it was for all the fans, and not only for them, but especially for Brian and the band, I would like to publish videos that show that Brian tried very hard to explain everything humanly to the people in the crowd. It certainly wasn't like he ran off the stage without a word. And the very next day, Placebo played a perfect show in Copenhagen.

What we have a tendency to do it react allergically against what we’ve just done, so it's highly likely that the next thing we do will be something akin to career suicide."

Sometimes I wake up with panic attacks and I just have to tell myself that this will pass and that there are a lot of good things to live for. There are a lot of things that I appreciate and I am thankful for everything that I have.“

An impressive music video, directed by 𝑺𝒂𝒔𝒉𝒂 𝑹𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒃𝒐𝒘, was released half a year later, in June 2017. It was filmed at Agbogbloshie in Accra, Ghana, the site of one of the world's largest electronic waste dumps.

Pretty rarely mentioned 𝐒𝐨𝐧𝐠 #𝟔 was written by Ashley Slater, a member of the British band 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫. Their music was a mix of acid jazz, funk, soul, and trip hop.
𝐒𝐨𝐧𝐠 #𝟔 comes from the band's 1996 album More of Everything for Everybody. An interesting fact is
that it was featured in a 2004 British-American movie 𝐂𝐨𝐝𝐞 𝟒𝟔, a dystopic science fiction love story.

A retrospective album 𝐀 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐔𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐃𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦 was released exactly 5 years ago, on October 7th, 2016, as part of Placebo’s 20th anniversary celebrations. It consists of 36 tracks, including songs off albums, single versions, radio edits, live performances and redux editions of previously released songs, as well as the 2016 single Jesus' Son. The compilation includes all Placebo songs that have been released as singles, apart from "Burger Queen Français", "Twenty Years" and "The Never-Ending Why".
The compilation album reached no. 21 in the UK Albums Chart.

𝑱𝒖𝒍𝒊𝒂𝒏 𝑯𝒐𝒖𝒔𝒆 of London-based independent creative agency 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨 was responsible for the artwork on the release: besides designing a photo book, he produced other collage images for the vinyl LP covers, themed around youth surviving apocalyptic events. By the way, Intro agency and particularly Julian House have also worked with Placebo on 𝐋𝐨𝐮𝐝 𝐋𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞 album artwork.

📢 “We’re stretching the 20th anniversary of Placebo over quite a long time. We started all that in 2014 because that was 20 years since we formed and we’re going until this year because that’s when the first album came out. This feels like a good time to do a proper respective, our last one was all singles and this time we wanted to do a mixture of the songs that have been the most commercially successful and the ones we feel have most artistic merit. It’s not a Greatest Hits.”

To finish this anniversary post, I want to share 𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒏’𝒔 𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒆𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒅 to A Place For Us To Dream photo book. I think it’s wonderful and gives you if not an info then rather a feeling of what the album is about...

“Ladies and Gentlemen, and those of you who find yourselves in-between.
There’s a story in here somewhere, though I’m still not sure what it’s about. It’s a long movie that jumps forwards and backwards in time. There are two main characters, a very important supporting role, and guys who hit objects for a living who come and go.
Every now and then there’s a glorious cameo.
I don’t know what it all means, even though I’m the one who edited the film. I still haven’t watched it back all way through. Please have the courage to do what I can’t. Watch it from beginning to end. Take one long deep breath, allowing it all into your body as a whole and recognise the sensation in your soul. I’m still too afraid to do so.

Dear friends, my post today will be dedicated to all of us.
It is for all those who are so looking forward to the upcoming Placebo tour that they are willing to pay any money for the coveted concert.
In 2016, an association of managers and artists from the music industry in the UK merged into an organization called the 💥𝐅𝐚𝐧𝐅𝐚𝐢𝐫 𝐀𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞💥.

The first mention of this organization dates back to 2012.
But on July 14, 2016, a statement was issued to the British Parliament.
What is the content of this effort of people working in this field of cultural events?

📌 The managers of PJ Harvey, Arctic Monkeys, One Direction and Mumford & Sons today announced the launch of a new anti-touting campaign at a press conference at Somerset House in London.
First mentioned in 2012, the FanFair Alliance – backed by Brian Message of ATC Management/Courtyard Management, Ian McAndrew of Wildlife Entertainment, Harry Magee of Modest Management and Adam Tudhope of Everybody’s Management – is calling on the new British government to take a tougher stand against what Arctic Monkeys manager McAndrew called the “number one grievance among concertgoing fans”.

𝑺𝒑𝒆𝒂𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒐 𝑰𝑸 𝒂𝒇𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒍𝒂𝒖𝒏𝒄𝒉, 𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒏 𝑴𝒐𝒍𝒌𝒐 𝒐𝒇 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆𝒃𝒐 𝒆𝒙𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒅 𝒘𝒉𝒚 𝒉𝒆’𝒔 𝒔𝒖𝒑𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑭𝒂𝒏𝑭𝒂𝒊𝒓:
“We as a band do not want our fans to be ripped off by these enormous multinational corporations who are breaking the law in such a brazen, unethical fashion – taking advantage of genuine music lovers – that for me, personally, it’s scandalous. And that’s why I’m here today.”
Asked if he’d seen Placebo tickets selling for inflated prices on secondary sites, Molko said it “breaks your heart – you know that some people love you so much that they will buy them”, adding that although it’s “the least of my worries”, it also “reflects badly on the artist, and we’re not responsible for it, so we want to make that clear as well.”
Touting is, said Molko, a “complex issue, because venues are involved, box offices, managers… and it’s not going to be solved overnight. But this [FanFair] is the beginning of something exciting. It’s not about us being paid fairly – it’s about the fans getting tickets for a fair price.”

📌 So do we already know what this is all about?
This is a double resale of tickets at prices higher than the original. The resellers are aware that the fans will do everything to get to the concert of their favorites at any cost. So doubling ticket prices has ceased to appeal to artists and their managers.
And this problem, of course, affects countries other than the United Kingdom.

As an artist who’s been playing live for over 20 years, how do you feel about the growth in secondary ticketing?
🔊 BM: "I think the brazen profiteering of these corporations is absolutely scandalous. I can only speak for myself and my band – Placebo certainly do not want our fans to be victims of this unethical profiteering. It appears to be institutionalised, the laws against this aren’t enforced and music fans are unaware that they’re being ripped off by fat cats in suits."

Why are you here today?
🔊 BM: "To educate myself, to speak to other artists and try to get them involved in the campaign and to use whatever platform I have to spread the message."

How has this situation affected your band and your tours?
🔊 BM: "It gets to a point where people in difficult economic times can’t afford to go to shows, so this practice impacts both the fans and the artists as well. Not solely on a financial level, but, as an artist, you want your venue to be filled with people having a good time. That’s what you live for. It’s the kind of energy that feeds your soul, it affects us that way.
This situation affects new bands too. If a ticket costs £30 but is offered on a secondary ticketing site for £60 and someone buys it, they won’t have the spare cash to spend £10 on seeing a smaller band. It makes it more difficult for up and coming artists."

Do you feel powerless in all of this?
🔊 BM: "No, not at all. I think it’s just the beginning. I’m passionate about this and I intend to make as many people as possible aware of this scandalous behaviour. Hopefully this is movement that can go global, eventually."

What do you say to that, dear soulmates?
I wanted to show you another Brian's face.
In addition to being a great musician and grateful that he can vent his emotions and to feed his family through Placebo creation, he also makes a huge effort to help the weak and needy, raising awareness of depression as a very dangerous disease, just doing everything to make the world a fairer place for all.
You may still remember the post about the Placebo performance at the Coronet Theater in London in 2007. Even then, an angry Brian declared war on ticket dealers.
