today is a very beautiful day to celebrate the release another ๐๐ฅ๐๐๐๐๐จ ๐ฌ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ฅ๐, this time from the album ๐๐๐ญ๐ญ๐ฅ๐ ๐ ๐จ๐ซ ๐๐ก๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ง:

I don't know how you feel, for me it is a song illuminated by spring rays, those that bring rebirth after a cruel, dark, hard winter. It is, along with Speak In Tongues, the most positive song on the whole album. The song directly calls out - look at us, after all we've been through, we rise like a mythical phoenix bird from the ashes, stronger, more beautiful, happier, full of faith in a better tomorrow.

"Let me put it this way — I have a theory about drugs and alcohol. There is a limited amount that a human being is able to consume in a course of a lifetime. Some people are sensible and consume the amount that’s able to stretch a lifetime. Some people who are not so sensible, like me and Stefan, consume that limited amount in a period of about 10 years. There comes a point that it doesn’t do anything for you that isn’t negative. In fact, it destroys your life and you lose everything. Then one has to either surrender to that, which most people do, which begins the inevitable descent to nothingness and emptiness. Or one takes the courageous step to try and rebuild one's life in a more positive way, which was what Stefan and I decided to do. It was one life choice and a major philosophical influence on the record."

Anyway, for Placebo it's a very atypical song, very original, it could be played on mainstream radio from morning till night as a pop rock anthem, spread that positivity to all listeners and it wouldn't be bad at all.

Cast your mind back to the days
When I’d pretend I was okay
I had so very much to say
About my crazy living
Now that I’ve stared into the void
So many people I’ve annoyed
I have to find a middle way,
A better way of giving
So I haven’t given up
But all my choices, my good luck
Appeared to go and get me stuck
In an open prison
Now I am trying to break free
Be in a state of empathy
Find the true and inner me
Eradicate the schism
No-one can take it away from me
And no-one can tear it apart
Because a heart that hurts is a heart that works
A heart that hurts is a heart that works
A heart that hurts is a heart that works
No-one can take it away from me
And no-one can tear it apart
It may be elaborate fantasy
But it’s the perfect place to start
Because a heart that hurts is a heart that works
A heart that hurts is a heart that works
๐น๐ฌ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐:
“The lyrics are very autobiographic, a complete confession from my point of view. On former records I used to invent characters, through which I could talk about my feelings and fears. I used these characters as selfprotection and catalysator to express myself. This time I didn't do this. The voice of the storyteller is my own. I think this record is much more honest and personal with these lyrics.“

The video for this song was directed by Heroes for Zeroes and is the 24th official video of Placebo's career.
It's an absolute contrast between lived anxiety and rediscovered hope, the duality between darkness and light seems to confirm the theme not only of this song, but of the entire album.
๐น๐ฌ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐: “I mean that there seems to be quite a lot of light and dark themes with this record in terms of the album cover as the beginning. With the solar eclipse, you go to the light from the darkness to light it down. And what we’re trying to do in the video, is playing with the contrast between light and dark, so we’re kind of going from playing in the darkness together, and then we emerging and leaving to play into this quite illuminated backdrop.”

๐ฅฐBrian's great mood, his smile and his bright eyes when he finds out technical problems with Bill Loyd's non-functioning bass guitar during the song are definitely worth seeing.
Hopefully this anniversary post brought good mood to your hearts as well.
