Today I'll finish to talk to you about ð‘Đ𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒏 ð‘ī𝒐𝒍𝒌𝒐's musical loves, these wonderful instruments through which he lets his inspiration and creativity flow, to then touch our hearts with his art, ðŸŽĩ - for this reason it seems important to me to talk about them -.
Some of them have gone down in history and others are still with him. Do you want to discover which ones? Well, then let's get started!

The first guitar I ever owned was an ESP Telecaster. When we started the band I had a Japanese reissue Fender jaguar, and I was just playing through a crappy little Fender practice amp. Then I moved on to some Marshall combos.

ðŸŽĪ I've got three Fender Jaguars, one Fender Jazz master and two Gibson SG's, and they're all older than me. That's very important. The Jags are all women, and they all have names: "Bitch," "Goddess" and "Tattoo". For amps I use a Marshall stack and a Fender Twin to get a fuller, richer sound. My effects setup is simple: Boss delay and Roger Mayer Voodoo Distortion; and I use the built-in overdrive on the Marshall. Occasionally our sound guy will put a Leslie [rotary speaker] effect or a big My Bloody Valentine kind of reverb effect on my guitar.

"ð‘Ū𝒐𝒅𝒅𝒆𝒔𝒔" is a blue colored 𝑭𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓 ð‘ąð’‚ð’›ð’›ð’Žð’‚ð’”ð’•ð’†ð’“ with a white sparkly pickguard and a purple sticker with her name under the bridge. ð‘Đ𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒏 started using it from the "ð‘ū𝒊𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝑰'𝒎 ð‘ĩ𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 ð‘ŧ𝒐𝒖𝒓" mainly to play "𝑷𝒖𝒓𝒆 ð‘ī𝒐𝒓𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈", "ð‘ŧ𝒆𝒆𝒏𝒂𝒈𝒆 ð‘Ļ𝒏𝒈𝒔𝒕", "ð‘ģ𝒂𝒅𝒚 ð‘ķ𝒇 ð‘ŧ𝒉𝒆 𝑭𝒍𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒓𝒔" and "ð‘Đ𝒖𝒓𝒈𝒆𝒓 ð‘ļ𝒖𝒆𝒆𝒏"; He continued to use it until the "𝑚𝒍𝒆𝒆𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒈 ð‘ū𝒊𝒕𝒉 ð‘Ū𝒉𝒐𝒔𝒕𝒔 ð‘ŧ𝒐𝒖𝒓". On September 29th, 2017, this guitar was placed among many more items in the "𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆𝒃𝒐 ð‘đ𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒆𝒔 ð‘Ļ𝒖𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏" that the band organized to end their 𝟐𝟎𝒕𝒉 𝒂𝒏𝒏𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒂𝒓𝒚 celebrations and the proceeds were donated to 𝑊.ð‘Ļ.ð‘ģ.ð‘ī (ð‘ŧ𝒉𝒆 𝑊𝒂𝒎𝒑𝒂𝒊𝒈𝒏 ð‘Ļ𝒈𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒕 ð‘ģ𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 ð‘ī𝒊𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒚) a charity dedicated to the prevention of male suicide in the UK and to ð‘ŧ𝒉𝒆 ð‘ī𝒆𝒓𝒄𝒚 𝑊𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒆, the shelter for underprivileged children in Bangkok, Thailand. As a battle mark, "ð‘Ū𝒐𝒅𝒅𝒆𝒔𝒔" had broken the headstock.

The case of this guitar is quite interesting. For a long time I have seen on several sites dedicated to 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆𝒃𝒐, that when talking about "ð‘ŧ𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒐𝒐" they refer to the ð‘Ū𝒊𝒃𝒔𝒐𝒏 𝑚ð‘Ū guitar with a blue and silver sticker that ð‘Đ𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒏 uses to play the songs "ð‘ū𝒊𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝑰'𝒎 ð‘ĩ𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈", "𝑎𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝑎𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 ð‘ī𝒆", "𝑚𝒑𝒆𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒍 ð‘ĩ𝒆𝒆𝒅𝒔", etc; However, while I was preparing this post I came across a forum where a guy said that the red colored 𝑭𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓 ð‘ąð’‚ð’ˆð’–ð’‚ð’“ with tortoiseshell pickguard is the guitar named "ð‘ŧ𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒐𝒐" and that it was also ð‘Đ𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒏's second favorite and the sexiest one. Looking at the quote that opens this post, we realize that it is true: ð‘Đ𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒏 ð‘ī𝒐𝒍𝒌𝒐 𝒉𝒊𝒎𝒔𝒆𝒍𝒇 𝒔𝒂𝒚𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 "ð‘ŧ𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒐𝒐" 𝒊𝒔 𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒖𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚 𝒂 𝑭𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓 ð‘ąð’‚ð’ˆð’–ð’‚ð’“ 𝒂𝒏𝒅 ð‘ĩð‘ķð‘ŧ 𝒂 ð‘Ū𝒊𝒃𝒔𝒐𝒏 𝑚ð‘Ū, as has always been rumored.

ð‘Đ𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒏 mainly used this guitar to play songs from 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆𝒃𝒐's first album and he only used it during their first tour. As you well know, in the gigs ð‘Đ𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒏 ð‘ī𝒐𝒍𝒌𝒐 always changes guitars between songs, but there are exceptions, such as their performance at the ð‘ģ𝒐𝒓𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒚 𝑭𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒂𝒍 in 1996 where he played the whole concert with "ð‘ŧ𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒐𝒐".

"ð‘ģ𝒐𝒖𝒊𝒔𝒆" is another 𝑭𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓 ð‘ąð’‚ð’ˆð’–ð’‚ð’“ guitar named after the sticker between the pickups of the American silent film star and writer ð‘ģ𝒐𝒖𝒊𝒔𝒆 ð‘Đ𝒓𝒐𝒐𝒌𝒔, whose androgynous image created aesthetic trends, scandalized with her roles and her bold and rebellious behavior during the 20s, just as 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆𝒃𝒐 did in the 90s! It is even curious that the press back then compared ð‘Đ𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒏 ð‘ī𝒐𝒍𝒌𝒐's hairstyle with ð‘ģ𝒐𝒖𝒊𝒔𝒆 ð‘Đ𝒓𝒐𝒐𝒌𝒔' iconic haircut, as you can see in the excerpt below:

Back on guitar topic, ð‘Đ𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒏 started using it on the "ð‘ū𝒊𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝑰'𝒎 ð‘ĩ𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 ð‘ŧ𝒐𝒖𝒓" and continued using it until the "𝑚𝒍𝒆𝒆𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒈 ð‘ū𝒊𝒕𝒉 ð‘Ū𝒉𝒐𝒔𝒕𝒔 ð‘ŧ𝒐𝒖𝒓". ðŸŽĪ “I’d like to say a few words about this guitar. I call this guitar my "Baby". It’s from 1956 and it’s the guitar that I do most of my writing on and I absolutely adore it. And it’s beautifully damaged. It’s a Japanese concept called "wabi-sabi" which means that perfection is in the imperfection. And the way this guitar looks represents that perfectly for me.”

With these fond words it's clear that this guitar is pretty special to ð‘Đ𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒏, so much so that the only time he has ever appeared on stage with it was at an equally special concert, the mesmeric "𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆𝒃𝒐 ð‘īð‘ŧð‘― 𝑞𝒏𝒑𝒍𝒖𝒈𝒈𝒆𝒅", where he used it to perform magical versions of the songs 𝟑𝟔 ð‘Ŧ𝒆𝒈𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒔, ð‘Đ𝒆𝒄𝒂𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝑰 ð‘ū𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒀𝒐𝒖, 𝑚𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒐 𝑚𝒂𝒚 ð‘Ū𝒐𝒐𝒅𝒃𝒚𝒆, ð‘ŧ𝒐𝒐 ð‘ī𝒂𝒏𝒚 𝑭𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒔 and 𝑷𝒐𝒔𝒕 ð‘Đ𝒍𝒖𝒆.

It is the black guitar with sparkly white pickguard that ð‘Đ𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒏 ð‘ī𝒐𝒍𝒌𝒐 used to record the song 𝑰.ð‘ē.ð‘ū.𝒀.ð‘ģ. (released in the ð‘Đ𝟑 𝑎𝑷) as well as in the live sessions of the "ð‘ģ𝒐𝒖𝒅 ð‘ģ𝒊𝒌𝒆 ð‘ģ𝒐𝒗𝒆" album. Last December 4th ð‘Đ𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒏 offered this guitar as a prize draw to people who donated funds to help 𝑚𝒕𝒂𝒈𝒆𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒅 and 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆𝒃𝒐's own crew for #ILoveLive month. "ð‘ģ𝒐𝒐𝒌𝒔 𝒂𝒘𝒇𝒖𝒍 - 𝒔𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒔 𝒃𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓!" said about the guitar on the band's official social media.

𝐁ðŦðĒ𝐚𝐧: [...] The last one I named is called Franny, it's a guitar from 1957, and I don’t know if this is correct, but I think that whoever owned it before must have had his guitar in the room while he was sleeping with a groupie, and this groupie sort of scratched her name on the back of the guitar, and because it says Franny on the back, you know, so she's called Franny. The other ones they haven’t names.

This is how the review of ð‘Đ𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒏 ð‘ī𝒐𝒍𝒌𝒐's guitars concludes dear soulmates.
Of course, he has many more guitars; However, the ones we have seen are the ones he has shared more details about, besides, as he has said in the last quote, not all of them have a name.
Thank you so much for reading, I hope you have found this post interesting.
