🎉 Today we celebrate the ⭐ 𝟏𝟎𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐍𝐍𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐀𝐑𝐘 of 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆𝒃𝒐's "𝐁𝟑 𝐄𝐏" ⭐, which was released three days later than originally announced, on October 15, 2012.

The "𝑩𝟑 𝑬𝑷", was produced by 𝑨𝒅𝒂𝒎 𝑵𝒐𝒃𝒍𝒆, 𝑫𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒅 𝑩𝒐𝒕𝒕𝒓𝒊𝒍𝒍 and 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆𝒃𝒐; consists of five tracks, two new songs ("𝑩𝟑", "𝑰.𝑲.𝑾.𝒀.𝑳"), two unreleased songs that were recorded in the sessions of the previous album "𝑩𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒍𝒆 𝑭𝒐𝒓 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒖𝒏" ("𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑬𝒙𝒕𝒓𝒂", "𝑻𝒊𝒎𝒆 𝑰𝒔 𝑴𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒚") and finally, "𝑰 𝑲𝒏𝒐𝒘 𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝑾𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝑻𝒐 𝑺𝒕𝒐𝒑", the cover of the 90s band 𝑴𝒊𝒏𝒙𝒖𝒔.

And so it was, the following month 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆𝒃𝒐 premiered "𝑰 𝑲𝒏𝒐𝒘 𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝑾𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝑻𝒐 𝑺𝒕𝒐𝒑" a cover version of the band 𝑴𝒊𝒏𝒙𝒖𝒔, in four of the five concerts of the mini tour "𝑨 𝑹𝑶𝑪𝑲 𝑬𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒔", which are to date the only times the band has played this song live.

The cover photo of both the CD and the limited edition clear vinyl is very special, as the boy kissing the glass and behind those clouds of steam is none other than 𝑪𝒐𝒅𝒚 𝑴𝒐𝒍𝒌𝒐. The photographs were taken by his mother, the photographer 𝑯𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒂 𝑩𝒆𝒓𝒈. On the other hand, the internal images of the sky were taken by 𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒏 𝑴𝒐𝒍𝒌𝒐 and the design was done by 𝑨𝒏𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒏𝒚 𝑪𝒓𝒐𝒐𝒌. Along with the release of the "𝑩𝟑 𝑬𝑷", 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆𝒃𝒐 launched the "#𝑩𝟑𝑲𝒊𝒔𝒔 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒑𝒆𝒕𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏" 💋 where fans had to recreate the cover to win a framed test print of the "𝑩𝟑 𝑬𝑷" cover picture signed by 𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒏, 𝑺𝒕𝒆𝒇𝒂𝒏 and 𝑺𝒕𝒆𝒗𝒆 𝑭𝒐𝒓𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒕. The winner was chosen by the band members themselves.


⭐ 𝐂𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐬 ⭐
✨ On the occasion of 𝑹𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒓𝒅 𝑺𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝑫𝒂𝒚 on April 20, 2013, a limited edition of the "𝑩𝟑 𝑬𝑷" was released on 10-inch clear vinyl.

✨ The "𝑩𝟑"official video was released on October 17, 2012 and was directed by 𝑬𝒓𝒊𝒄 𝑬𝒑𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒊𝒏.

✨ About the title track, 𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒏 and 𝑺𝒕𝒆𝒇𝒂𝒏 stated that:

“𝐉𝐄𝐒𝐔𝐒' 𝐒𝐎𝐍” was released as vinyl single on August 19th 2016, so today we celebrate its sixth ♦️𝐀𝐍𝐍𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐀𝐑𝐘♦️. The song was Placebo's first sign of life after the album ”Loud like love” in September 2013, which marked a drastic change in their musical style. So everyone wondered what the new single would sound like.

The song was written by Brian, Stefan, Steve Forrest and Bill Lloyd. It was recorded at RAK Studios in London and produced and mixed by Adam Noble. Fiona Brice was responsible for the string arrangement.
The cover of the single features Brian's son Cody wearing an oxygen mask. On the b-side of “Jesus' son“ you can find the Talk Talk cover “Life's what you make it“. The original was released as single in 1985, it peaked at no. 16 in the UK Singles Chart and reached the Top 20 in numerous other countries. Brian described both tracks on Placebo's new record as ”possibly two of the most commercial that we’ve ever done” (see quotes below).


Apart from the limited 7" vinyl “Jesus' son“ was also released on the EP “Life's what you make it“ and the compilation album “A place for us to dream“, both released on October 7th 2016. The album title is borrowed from a line in the lyrics of “Narcoleptic“, a song from the band's 2000 album “Black market music“.


The music clip for “Jesus' son“ was shot at Scivu beach in Sardinia. ”I saw a video of a little festival that is called Duna Jam. Bands that played in Sardinia on this wonderful beach, and I said: that’s the place for my song”, Brian explained why he chose this special region.

📌 𝗟𝗢𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗜𝗡𝗙𝗢 📌
Duna Jam is a private festival held in Sardinia, Italy and active since 2006. Because of the unorthodox nature of the festival the audience is limited to 150 and more of a party than a proper festival. The event spans roughly an entire week with bands performing throughout that time period. Duna Jam is held on various parts of the island and much of the details are kept in secrecy, adding to the mysterious and inclusive nature of Duna Jam. Almost all of the live performances are held outside. As most events worldwide the festival was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to covid but this year in July it finally took place again.

Music video commissioner John Moule brought Placebo into contact with Joe Connor and Brian entrusted Joe with the video direction. Connor: ”The guys were lovely, and on the shoot day they were nothing but wonderful professionals. I had a great day working with them.”
The music clip for “Jesus' son“ combines shots of the band dressed in white and performing barefooted at the beach alongside traditional Sardinian carnival figures wearing bovine masks and sheepskin clothing. At the beginning of the video a voice says: "𝘊𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘴 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘰𝘴, 𝘯𝘰 𝘢𝘯𝘢 𝘰𝘳𝘢, 𝘯𝘰 𝘢𝘯𝘢 𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘻𝘪𝘱𝘪𝘶 𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘪 𝘥'𝘢𝘯𝘢 𝘢𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘦. 𝘚𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘴, 𝘴𝘦𝘮𝘮𝘰𝘴 𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘥𝘰𝘴" which means “We have no past, no present and no future. ⭐ The first time 𝑪𝒐𝒅𝒚 𝑴𝒐𝒍𝒌𝒐 appeared in the 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆𝒃𝒐 world was with this iconic 𝑩3 𝑬𝑷 cover in 2012. 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆𝒃𝒐 had actually launched a photography contest, the #𝐵3𝐾𝐼𝑆𝑆 𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑝𝑒𝑡𝑖𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 asking participants to recreate their own artwork of the cover. ⭐ In 2013, for Record Store Day, 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆𝒃𝒐 released a transparent vinyl of 𝑩3 𝑬𝑷,with 𝑪𝒐𝒅𝒚on the cover. A very nice blurred image of the child, behind a rain-beaded window, stretching his hand outwards. The mouth contrasts with the rest of the picture.

An eight year old child as a Radio hit – predictor. This is how Placebo singer and guitarist Brian Molko describes his son, why did his father wearmake-up and skirts in the past. Extract of the interview.

At the end of the 90s no one could have ever guessed that Brian Molko along with his band could still sell out big venues in Germany.

In those days, Molko was the young Glamrock-Dandy, whose personally disorientation brought out so fragile hits like “Pure Morning and “Taste in Men”.

Nowadays, 20 years after and six albums later, Placebo are not the critics’ darlings anymore, but they are still as successful as ever.

In September 2013 they released their latest album “Loud Like Love”. I met Brian Molko and Stefan Osldal at Berlin Soho. House -  working for the music magazine Musikexpress – some weeks before the release  for the new album “Loud Like Love” and spoke with them about meditation and with Molko about his son Cody, who loves to listen to “One Direction” and find pictures of his father in women dresses on YouTube.

Brian, you have just attempted to take a year off on a parental leave.

Brian Molko:  The touring takes you always far away from your family. I wanted to spend a bit of time outside of this tour bubble. It’s simply an unnatural way of life.

Do you play your new songs to your son Cody?

Brian Molko: Yeah, an eight year old boy is a good listener. Playing my songs to him is a good test. When he finds an idea catchy enough, you know, you should go on with it.

And in that way you know that song will be a radio hit!

Brian Molko: Yes. Recently I played for him one of the bonus tracks from the new albumit’s called-Pity Party Of One“. He was onlysitting there, crossed arms without a wince and said: “Nooo, I don’t like it, no. Sorry!”

What does he like?

Brian Molko:  He likes „Loud Like Love“, „Too Many Friends“and the last song of the album. He likes strings.

Does he worry, when he listens to his daddy’s pessimistic lyrics about loneliness, frustration?

Brian Molko: No , he’s still too young to understand that, it doesn’t affect him He only pays attention to the melodies, if they are catchy.

What does he listen to apart of Placebo?

Brian Molko: One Direction, obviously but also distorted guitars and heavy rock music.

So, he likes your older albums too?

Brian Molko:  Maybe, but I don’t want to play them because I would have to listen to them again. On YouTube sometimes he finds our older stuff. This leads to the question of: “ I saw a video Dad, in which you wear a lot of make-up. And a dress! Why did you wear that?” Me “Ehm, … just because. At that times I just felt like it maybe one day you will wear something like this too!”

But this day still hasn’t come?

Brian Molko: Ehm.. I don’t know, you should have to ask himyourself.

Dass Brian Molko mit seiner Band Placebo im Jahr 2013 immer noch die größten Hallen der Republik ausverkaufen würde, hätte Ende der 90er-Jahre niemand vorhersehen können. Damals war Molko der juvenile Glamrock-Dandy, dessen sexuelle und persönliche Orientierungslosigkeit so fragile Hits wie „Pure Morning“ und „Taste In Men“ hervorbrachte. Heute, 20 nach ihrerGründung und sechs Alben später, sind Placebo keine Kritikerlieblinge mehr, aber so erfolgreich wie eh und je. Im September 2013 haben sie ihr aktuelles Album “Loud Like Love” veröffentlicht. 

Für den Musikexpress traf ich Brian Molko und Stefan Olsdal ein paar Wochen zuvor im Berliner Soho House und sprach mit ihnen über Meditation – und mit Molko übers einen Sohn Cody, der gerne One Direction hört und seinenVater in Frauenkleidern auf YouTube findet.

Brian, du hast gerade den Versuch hinter dir, ein Jahr Elternzeit zu nehmen…

Brian Molko: Das Touren führt dich immer weit weg von deiner Familie. Ich wollte etwas Zei taußer halb dieser Tourblase verbringen. Das ist einfach eine unnatürliche Lebensart.

Spielst du deinemSohn Cody eure neuen Songs vor?

Brian Molko: Ja, ein Achtjähriger ist ein guter Zuhörer. Ihm deine Songs vorzuspielen, ist ein sehr guter Test. Wenn ihm eine Idee catchy genug ist, weißt du, dass du sie weiterverfolgen solltest.

Dannweißt du, dass du einen Radio-Hit hast!

Ja! Neulich spielte ich ihm einen der Bonustracks von unserem neuen Album vor – „Pity Party Of One“ heißt der. Da saß er nur da, ohne eine Miene zuverziehen, mit verschränkten Armen und sagte: „Näää, das mag ich nicht, nein. Sorry!“

Und was gefällt ihm?

Er mag „Loud Like Love“, „Too Many Friends“ und den letzten Song auf dem Album, „Bosco“. Er mag die Streicher.

Sorgt er sich, wenn er die pessimistischenTexte seines Daddys über Einsamkeit und Frust hört?

Nein, das kommt bei ihm noch nicht so an. Er achtet nur auf die Melodien, wie eingängig sie sind.

Was hört er neben Placebo?

One Direction, klar.Aber auch verzerrte Gitarren und heavy rock music.

Also mag er auch eure alten Platten?

Könnte sein, aber ich will sie ihm nicht vorspielen, damit ich sie selbs tnich tmehr hören muss. Auf YouTube findet er aber öfter altes Zeug von uns. Das führt dann zu so Fragen wie: „Ich hab’ da ein Video von dir gesehen, Dad, in dem du viel Schminke trägst. Und ein Kleid! Warum hast du das getragen?“Ich so: „Äh,…einfach so! Weil ich mich damals eben danach gefühlt habe. Vielleicht trägst du eines Tages auch so was!“

Dieser Tag ist aber noch nicht gekommen?

Äh… ich weiß nicht, da müsstest du ihn lieber selbst fragen.
