It was released six years ago on October 7th 2016 as part of the band's 20th anniversary celebrations and reached no. 21 in the UK Albums Chart. The compilation was released as double CD, digital download and as limited edition deluxe box set pink vinyl and black vinyl. It was accompanied by a 32-page booklet featuring previously unpublished photos. Brian wrote a beautiful foreword to the album which you can read below.

”A place for us to dream” consists of 36 tracks, including songs off albums, single versions, radio edits, live performances and redux editions of previously released tracks. It includes all Placebo songs that have been released as singles, apart from "Burger Queen Franรงais", "Twenty Years" and "The Never-Ending Why".
The compilation's title ”A place for us to dream” comes from the lyrics of the song "Narcoleptic" that can be found on Placebo's third studio album “Black market music”. The album cover is a picture taken during the 2011 Vancouver Stanley Cup riot (explanation below).

Ladies and Gentlemen, and those of you who find yourselves in-between.
There’s a story in here somewhere, though I’m still not sure what it’s about. It’s a long movie that jumps forwards and backwards in time. There are two main characters, a very important supporting role, and guys who hit objects for a living who come and go.
Every now and then there’s a glorious cameo.
I don’t know what it all means, even though I’m the one who edited the film. I still haven’t watched it back all way through. Please have the courage to do what I can’t. Watch it from beginning to end. Take one long deep breath, allowing it all into your body as a whole and recognise the sensation in your soul. I’m still too afraid to do so.
This album is for you, not for me.
Dream of a place where we all belong.
I hope to meet you there one day.
With love,
Brian Molko

The picture was taken on June 15th 2011 by photojournalist Richard Lam during the Vancouver Stanley Cup riot and became worldwide famous as “๐—ง๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ฅ๐—ถ๐—ผ๐˜ ๐—ž๐—ถ๐˜€๐˜€“. According to Brian it's “๐‘Ž๐‘๐‘œ๐‘ข๐‘ก ๐‘๐‘’๐‘Ž๐‘ข๐‘ก๐‘ฆ ๐‘Ž๐‘š๐‘œ๐‘›๐‘”๐‘ ๐‘ก ๐‘โ„Ž๐‘Ž๐‘œ๐‘ .

The Stanley Cup Final 2011 took place between the Vancouver Canucks and Boston Bruins. The Canucks' defeat sent the team's fans into a frenzy and ended in a riot. The police had to intervene to contain the chaos that had settled in the city. Also passers-by who just wanted to go home were stuck in the riot. And among these people was the couple featured on the cover.

This couple, Alex Thomas and her Australian boyfriend Scott Jones, were not participating in the riot. But they were in the street as the police stepped in. Alex was pushed by a police officer, inhaled tear gas and fell to the ground. She began to panic and shake. So Scott leaned over her and tried to calm and comfort her with a kiss. Richard Lam captured this moment in his iconic photograph which was called "the most compelling sports image of the year" by Sports Illustrated. First many viewers suspected the scene had been staged but evidence soon revealed the truth.
In June 2016 it was reported that Alex and Scott have moved to Perth, Australia, where they sleep under a poster of their “Riot Kiss“.

At least 140 people were injured during thus incident, one of them critically. Four people were stabbed and nine police officers were hurt in the riot. Alltogether 101 people were arrested. In 2015, four years after the riot, the police investigation was finished. It led to 887 charges against more than 300 people.

๐Ÿ”ท The song could be interpreted in many different ways but for me, I don't think this song is aimed at anyone in particular, but rather at yourself from the perspective of the character in the song. Like self-disgust when you look in the mirror "horrid to see you again so bored of being you". When you talk to yourself unmercifully... A song about self-loathing in a way. I see a character who can't stand a part of himself that resurfaces after a long period of time hiding inside.

It's horrid to see you again
Now, that you're back from the dead
It's horrid to see you again
So bored of being you

It's horrid to see you again
Now, that you're back from the dead
It's horrid to see you again
So bored of being alive, alive, alive

It's horrid to see you again
Acting like you're on some kind of cross
It's horrid to see you again
An emotional retard

It's horrid to see you again
Unaware that all may not be lost
It's horrid to see you again
So bored of being alive, alive
Alive, alive
Alive, alive

It's horrid to see you again
Walking around with that egg on your face
It's horrid to see you again
So full of apathy

It's horrid to see you again
Caught in a trap that you cannot escape
It's horrid to see you again
So bored of being alive, alive
Alive, alive
Alive, alive
Alive, alive

From my personal point of view, this photograph totally fits the world of Placebo, which always strives for the best in tormented songs. Light in the darkness. It was a genius idea to choose this photo to illustrate the 20 years of Placebo. The band has been through so much and has always overcome the problems they faced within the band. The picture can be seen as a mirror to Placebo's career.

We started all that in 2014 because that was 20 years since we formed and we’re going until this year because that’s when the first album came out. “Ladies and Gentlemen, and those of you who find yourselves in-between.
With love,
Brian Molko

Brian Molko performing live at WiZink Center Madrid, Spain 04.29.2017 / indyrock.es.

On April 29, Placebo offered a concert of more than 130 minutes at the WiZink Center in Madrid. A couple of hours before it, vocalist Brian Molko received us exclusively in a room located in the bowels of the pavilion. We recover it now, just after passing through Spain for the XX anniversary tour and to headline the second edition of Mallorca Live, held this weekend Brian Molko enters the room and introduces himself while finishing his cigar. He is already fully prepared for the monumental concert that, before a full capacity and together with Stefan Olsdal and company, he will offer shortly thereafter. The artist wears his eyelids richly painted in a showy blue, and chooses one of the two chairs located in the room to sit down in a relaxed posture, just before we start shooting our questions along the ten minutes (finally turned into fifteen) that the musician offers to this publication in a rigorous exclusive. This is the result of that talk, in which, among other things, we discovered his heartfelt crusade against the use of new technologies...

Yes, it is a gift. It is the first time that we do something for the fans 100 percent. We have tried to find a balance between feeling happy with ourselves and at the same time making the fans happy. When it comes time to choose the songs we play live, what we're doing on this tour is playing the songs that have had the best response from the live audience during the last twenty years.

Yes I'm proud of it... but actually I'm proud of everyone, you know. But well, I think “Loud Like Love” was quite an achievement from the point of view of sound and in terms of what we achieved with it. If you think of music as a set of colors and how much color we can give to an album… then I think that's our most colorful album.

I think we have improved as musicians.
As performers, and… I think we are much more adapted to the art of stage design. And we have also learned how to use the stage beyond being simply a place from which to give the concert, and that it reaches only one of the senses: the ear. Music is also a physical experience and we have been working a lot in that direction. Now we work very very hard on the visual aspect of the show.

Yes, I mean… I would like to think that we are a compositional pair comparable to some of the historical compositional pairs. Placebo wouldn't exist without the two of us. It is simply impossible. I think what is interesting between the two of us is that we are very different: he has studied music in schools, he can write music, he programs music on a computer, he knows how to use computer composition technology, and basically he can play any instrument he picks up, something that I can't do. Stefan offers what we could call an academic and technological aspect to the music, while mine is more based on the song, it's more instinctive and more emotional, so when you put those two sides together you have almost a perfect circle.

Yeeeeeeees, of course I do. A lot of things… I mean, when we were preparing for the 20th anniversary tour we were watching videos of the old performances, and nobody had a mobile phone. Everyone… Everyone was jumping up and down, and people were flying over each other! Everyone was in the moment and enjoying. Now sometimes you are playing for an audience that has its face glued to an electronic device, which makes it very difficult to satisfy that audience with technology glued to its face, because there is an object blocking its own energy and preventing it from reaching you. Today, there is a fascination with documenting everything over experiencing it. It's the result of having let ourselves as a society be seduced by that technology, you know... And the problem is not the technology itself, but our attitude and the ease with which we allow ourselves to be seduced by it. It is easier to have a conversation with someone through technology than face to face, because it doesn't carry any vulnerability. And vulnerability involves a very important part of what it means to be a human being. So if we continue to exist without vulnerability, without truth, without physical contact, without physical exchange in the real world, I think we will become more disconnected and lonely beings within society. Since multinationals are telling the world that they create a better place to connect people and we believe their lie… It's really crap, they exist simply to earn a huge sum of money.

Interview with Brian Molko - July 2016 - M Magazine

Emerging from the dank depths of nineties’ London, the band went on to help define both Britpop and the nascent emo scene.
Now with seven albums under their belts, they’ve build a cultish fan base that feeds sold-out arena tours around the globe.
Over recent years the band have become increasingly frustrated with rampant online ticket touting, leading Brian to lend his support to the FanFair Alliance, a new initiative to curb the practice.
We grabbed five minutes with him at the FanFair launch to learn more…
As an artist who’s been playing live for over 20 years, how do you feel about the growth in secondary ticketing?
I think the brazen profiteering of these corporations is absolutely scandalous. I can only speak for myself and my band – Placebo certainly do not want our fans to be victims of this unethical profiteering. It appears to be institutionalised, the laws against this aren’t enforced and music fans are unaware that they’re being ripped off by fat cats in suits.
Why are you here today?
To educate myself, to speak to other artists and try to get them involved in the campaign and to use whatever platform I have to spread the message.
How has this situation affected your band and your tours?
It gets to a point where people in difficult economic times can’t afford to go to shows, so this practice impacts both the fans and the artists as well. Not solely on a financial level, but, as an artist, you want your venue to be filled with people having a good time. That’s what you live for. It’s the kind of energy that feeds your soul, it affects us that way.
This situation affects new bands too. If a ticket costs £30 but is offered on a secondary ticketing site for £60 and someone buys it, they won’t have the spare cash to spend £10 on seeing a smaller band. It makes it more difficult for up and coming artists.
Do you feel powerless in all of this?
No, not at all. I think it’s just the beginning. I’m passionate about this and I intend to make as many people as possible aware of this scandalous behaviour. Hopefully this is movement that can go global, eventually.
Placebo hit the road in October, arriving in the UK early December for a string of shows. Find out where they’re playing: http://www.placeboworld.co.uk/shows
FanFair Alliance was launched today (Thursday) by the managers of Arctic Monkeys, One Direction, Mumford & Sons and PJ Harvey to unite businesses, artists and fans against online ticket touting.

A Place For Us To Dream - Best Of - Placebo

Placebo celebrate their 20th birthday and go on a world tour in autumn.

Their journey around the globe starts October 13th in Denmark and ends December 15th in the London Wembley Arena.

The band promises that they are going to play songs from all periods of their long career at those shows.

Brian Molko announces: "Let me just say that much: We are going to play songs that I swore I'd never play again. We have to recognize what the many Placebo fans out there really want to hear.
They've always been very patient with us cause we just seldom play our commercial successful material.

But a 20th birthday seems appropriate to us to rethink that attitude. That is what we intend.
We are going on this world tour for the Fans and it offers us the opportunity to rediscover our early music. So if you want to hear pieces like "Pure morning" or "Nancy boy", which we didn’t play in ten years and maybe will never be playing again, you better come to those shows! Of course we will have some surprises as well."

Besides on 7th of October appears a new best-of album called "A Place For Us To Dream" with three unpublished songs.

Placebo - ALT.RUSSIA Documentary 2016

New Placebo rockumentary discovers creativity in remotest parts of Russia
A documentary about Placebo premiered at BEAT Film Festival in Moscow on Monday, to mark the 20th anniversary of the English rockband. Directed by Charlie Targett-Adams, it focuses on Placebo’s tour across Russia in 2014, and was created with the help of The Calvert Journal.

“I had already made a “rockumentary” about the band back in 2012 that told the story of an international band touring the world. So for this documentary I wanted to do something different and came up with the concept of taking the band out to meet creatives in Russia. To see first hand what creativity was happening in Russia that we rarely hear about in Europe,” Targett-Adams told The Calvert Journal.

The director and associate producer Stephanie Fyfe turned to The Calvert Journal in constructing the story for the documentary: “The amount of information about the creative arts in Russia was great and it gave us a great starting place to see what was happening in each of the cities the band would travel to,” Targett-Adams revealed.

Earlier this year Placebo announced the 20 Years world tour scheduled for this autumn, starting in Denmark on 13 October and ending at London Wembley on 15 December. You can follow their 2014 tour from Krasnoyarsk to Voronezh in photos the band took on a disposable camera for The Calvert Journal.
