I found a great interview with ๐‘บ๐’•๐’†๐’‡๐’‚๐’ ๐‘ถ๐’๐’”๐’…๐’‚๐’ published in the Swedish ๐’๐’†๐’“๐’ ๐‘ด๐’‚๐’ˆ๐’‚๐’›๐’Š๐’๐’† in 2001 that I hadn't read before and, of course, I want to share with you. Among the things ๐‘บ๐’•๐’†๐’‡๐’‚๐’ tells us here are ๐‘ท๐’๐’‚๐’„๐’†๐’ƒ๐’'s friendship with the ๐‘ฎ๐’†๐’“๐’Ž๐’‚๐’ band ๐‘น๐’‚๐’Ž๐’Ž๐’”๐’•๐’†๐’Š๐’, how he feels about being Swedish and about the then novelty of consuming music in digital format. Wow, how much things have changed! So get comfortable and enjoy reading.

๐‘ท๐’๐’‚๐’„๐’†๐’ƒ๐’ is one of the most written about bands in the foreign music press. In ๐‘บ๐’˜๐’†๐’…๐’†๐’ you read a few reviews and a short interview in the evening papers, despite the fact that one of the country's biggest rock stars is in this international trio. Now they are in ๐‘บ๐’˜๐’†๐’…

They have played at ๐‘ซ๐’‚๐’—๐’Š๐’… ๐‘ฉ๐’๐’˜๐’Š๐’†'s 50th birthday party, supported ๐‘ผ๐Ÿ and had a dozen singles on the ๐‘ผ๐‘ฒ charts. Their third album has been showered with critical acclaim and with that behind them they have been on tour pretty much all year. As if that wasn't enough, they're being chased by all the world's press wherever they go. In ๐‘บ๐’˜๐’†๐’…๐’†๐’, however, ๐‘บ๐’•๐’†๐’‡๐’‚๐’ and ๐‘ท๐’๐’‚๐’„๐’†๐’ƒ๐’ are relatively unknown. Mostly perhaps because ๐‘บ๐’•๐’†๐’‡๐’‚๐’ didn't grow up in ๐‘บ๐’˜๐’†๐’…๐’†๐’, but most likely because the media doesn't know about it yet. The group will be playing a Swedish show at the ๐‘จ๐’“๐’—๐’Š๐’Œ๐’‚ ๐‘ญ๐’†๐’”๐’•๐’Š๐’—๐’‚๐’ this summer, bringing with them songs from their incredibly strong album ๐‘ฉ๐’๐’‚๐’„๐’Œ ๐‘ด๐’‚๐’“๐’Œ๐’†๐’• ๐‘ด๐’–๐’”๐’Š๐’„. When they stopped off for a gig in ๐‘จ๐’Ž๐’”๐’•๐’†๐’“๐’…๐’‚๐’Ž, I took the opportunity to call up the band's Swedish bassist ๐‘บ๐’•๐’†๐’‡๐’‚๐’ ๐‘ถ๐’๐’”๐’… A few digits on the phone and presto.

๐Ÿ”นIt's ๐‘บ๐’•๐’†๐’‡๐’‚๐’'s manager who answers, but he quickly hands the phone over to ๐‘บ๐’•๐’†๐’‡๐’‚๐’.

๐Ÿ’ฌ We're a bit tired today, we visited our friends from Rammstein and celebrated that their album is number one in the German charts and typically only number two in the Swedish one, he laughs. We went to one of their favourite places yesterday, some goth club, that's their style. Otherwise, the tour has been going on for a while now, so the break yesterday was nice. Today we're playing here in Amsterdam after we've done a lot of Eastern Europe.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Well, we met Rammstein at a festival in Australia and we have so much fun together, so it's always fun to meet them. Otherwise we are good friends with PJ Harvey's band and some others but we don't have time to meet many people during the tour as there are gigs almost every day.

๐Ÿ“๐‘บ๐’•๐’†๐’‡๐’‚๐’ was born in ๐‘บ๐’˜๐’†๐’…๐’†๐’, but grew up in ๐‘ณ๐’–๐’™๐’†๐’Ž๐’ƒ๐’๐’–๐’“๐’ˆ and went to the same school as the band's singer ๐‘ฉ๐’“๐’Š๐’‚๐’ ๐‘ด๐’๐’๐’Œ๐’ . However, they hung out in different gangs at school. ๐‘บ๐’•๐’†๐’‡๐’‚๐’ was popular, ๐‘ฉ๐’“๐’Š๐’‚๐’ wasn't, if everything written about the band is to be believed. It wasn't until several years later that ๐‘บ๐’•๐’†๐’‡๐’‚๐’ bumped into ๐‘ฉ๐’“๐’Š๐’‚๐’ at ๐‘ฒ๐’†๐’๐’”๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ๐’•๐’๐’ ๐‘บ๐’•๐’‚๐’•๐’Š๐’๐’ in ๐‘ณ๐’๐’๐’…๐’๐’ and they decided to start a band together. I guess the question is how Swedish he feels today.

๐Ÿ’ฌ I guess I have mixed feelings about Sweden, it's mostly personal, then we're not that big there, he says happily. I was born in Gothenburg but we moved to Vรคllingby outside Stockholm quite soon. I lived there until I was eight and then we moved to Luxembourg, as I said. It's been a while since I've been home now, but I try to make time to visit Sweden from time to time.

๐Ÿ’ฌ We're all living in London now but I don't know how long we'll be there, there's so much disease and shit there now.

๐Ÿ’ฌ No, that's very much why I want to get out of there. We've flown around so much that we don't feel at home anywhere, so moving doesn't feel strange in any way.

The group does not hide the fact that they are gay. ๐‘บ๐’•๐’†๐’‡๐’‚๐’ points out to me that he is proud to be gay and that ๐‘ฉ๐’“๐’Š๐’‚๐’ is too and that ๐‘บ๐’•๐’†๐’—๐’† is bisexual. Often the media tries to focus on their orientation and other things, but as ๐‘บ๐’•๐’†๐’‡๐’‚๐’ puts it himself:

๐Ÿ’ฌ They're trying but they're not going to succeed. The music is the most important thing and no matter how you twist and turn Placebo's music, it is quite timeless. The first album could be the last if it weren't for the production.

๐Ÿ’ฌ We were quite young when we made the "Placebo" album, I was only 19 years old. It was a low-budget production and we only had three weeks, so it probably feels more like a good demo today. The songs I think still hold up and I'm very happy with them. We still play a couple of songs from that record live.

๐Ÿ’ฌ It's not that strange. Brian and Steve have been listening to hip-hop for a long time and in "Spite & Malice" in particular there was a hole that we didn't know what to do with. We knew the rapper Justin Warfield from before and we said; why not try him? That's the way it is, and the type of music. I think it was very successful so it might come back.

๐Ÿ’ฌ I guess the three of us have in common that we all like PJ Harvey, and we hang out with her band a lot too. Her music is modern yet timeless, something I think our music is too, maybe that's why we like her. Otherwise, I guess I grew up with Depeche Mode as big idols. As a Swede I have listened to some Swedish synth bands too, Mobile Homes, but they have stopped now I think. Then I try to buy some Swedish music too. Lately I've been buying Kent's B-sides, Covenant, Bob Hund and Robots latest. Robot I think is very good, have you heard them?

๐Ÿ’ฌ I don't think it's that strange. On the last album we use a lot of machines, which I think is natural because I grew up with that kind of music. On the first records we used more of a normal set up with guitar, bass, drums and vocals. This time I think it's more modern sound, but of course it still sounds Placebo.

๐Ÿ’ฌ On the tour there will be so much guitar music, so once we listen it will be to music without guitars. Right now Red Snapper, Aphex Twin and David Simon are probably spinning the most.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Napster is more like a jukebox, you discover music that you might otherwise never have come into contact with. I don't think it affects record sales either as the public still buys just as many records. Should it start to affect the sales of our records, it's not good, but for now it's okay.

To avoid confusion, I should put everything about this song in perspective:
๐’๐Ž๐”๐‹๐Œ๐€๐“๐„๐’ is a rockier, more guitar driven version of the studio song ๐’๐ฅ๐ž๐ž๐ฉ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐–๐ข๐ญ๐ก ๐†๐ก๐จ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ฌ from the 2003 same-titled album.

However, we all know this version from concerts, because Placebo included it in the setlist instead of the original Sleeping With Ghosts.

Another difference is that “Soulmates” was recorded at Livingstone Studios in London and produced by Dimitri Tikovoi while “Sleeping with ghosts” was recorded at The Townhouse Studios (also located in London) and produced by Jim Abbiss.

Brian changed the order of the verses in the chorus a little bit to make this lullaby absolutely perfect.

At the beginning there are only simple piano notes... After a while, Brian's voice joins in, full of tenderness and so vulnerable...

Listening to this version, you will simply melt away, overwhelmed by your love of Placebo's music. Today's second lullaby is just as beautiful as the first.
It comes from a song that in its fast, I would say almost rock punk form, reminds me of Placebo from the first album...

The prominent noisy guitars were swapped for piano and this again made space for Brian's even more challenging voice, turning the starkly punk version into a breathtaking confession of his desire for life change.

There is so much truth in those verses that touches me personally so I always feel very moved when I listen to this song.

I'm honored to make a post to celebrate the song that was at the birth of my passion and long-standing love for the band Placebo.

๐ŸŒนThis song was used as the theme song for the famous American drama ⭐๐‚๐‘๐”๐„๐‹ ๐ˆ๐๐“๐„๐๐“๐ˆ๐Ž๐๐’⭐ with Ryan Phillippe, Reese Witherspoon, Selma Blair and Sarah Michelle Gellar. This film is based on the 1782 novel "๐ƒ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ž๐ซ๐จ๐ฎ๐ฌ ๐‹๐ข๐š๐ข๐ฌ๐จ๐ง๐ฌ" ๐›๐ฒ ๐‚๐ก๐จ๐๐ž๐ซ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฌ ๐๐ž ๐‹๐š๐œ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฌ, which is set in the present day.

The plot concerns two high school step siblings from New York's high society, who are forever at war with each other and scheme and manipulate other people to achieve their goals, including sex and revenge. I think ๐„๐•๐„๐‘๐˜ ๐˜๐Ž๐” ๐„๐•๐„๐‘๐˜ ๐Œ๐„ is a great choice for the overall experience of this drama. The lyrics reflect the tone and plot of the film, especially Ryan's character Sebastian.
Following a bet with his evil sister, he decides to hurt a girl who is very vulnerable and naive, and as a result, everything comes to an inescapably tragic end.

It was 1999. MTV channel was playing on the TV. The first notes of the song came on, and the singer's voice rang inside my chest. That was my "Wooow PLACEBO!!!" first time. With my arms full - washed clothes in one hand and my almost one-year-old daughter in the other and a baby dummy in my mouth - I stood in front of the television and for several minutes I could not take my eyes off the ambiguous singing being. These memories are still as vivid and strong as if it were yesterday...

Dear friends, many of us experience these winter days worse than the rest of the year.

Short sunshine, cold weather, snow and frost...
In connection with various hardships in life, this period causes a more frequent tendency to depression and gloomy thoughts in many people, the world seems sadder, darker.

When you add to all of this the troubles with love, with the end of a relationship, when we are shocked, angry, aggressive or just totally desperate, it can knock us down to the very bottom.

For today's post, I have chosen a song that is the perfect anthem for all broken hearts.

A perfect, heartbreaking anthem about the end of love. A drama about despair expressed in very moving words and complemented by a gentle combination of guitar and piano accompanied by a drum machine...

“๐๐‹๐ˆ๐๐ƒ” was written and recorded around 2002 when Placebo were working on covers with producer Dimitri Tikovoi.

Stefan: “We didn't want to make a B-side of it, so we kept the original recording for this album [“Meds”, released in 2006], just with vocals redone and more overdubs."

BLIND has been performed live 179 times, five of which were part of the setlist at intimate shows in 2022.

Lucky everyone who experienced this anthem about unrequited love live.

Okay, so anyone who thought this song came from Brian's broken heart, might be wrong.

Fans can only speculate what all of Brian's experiences are in the lyrics of this painful ballad, as according to the quotes, the song Blind is mainly Stefan's child.
But a song is often created by a team... Someone suggests a musical line on the guitar or piano, someone comes up with a piece of verse...

I think that even the verses for Blind were created as a team, partly by Stefan, supplemented and completed by Brian. .. maybe...

๐Ÿ”น๐Ÿ’ฌ You have often been accused of being an intellectual band, sometimes you use somewhat complex phrasings. But for me, as you said, you're a band with a dark romanticism mood and I can not help but quote one of the most beautiful sentences that I have ever read in a song. Here's the quote. This is an excerpt from the title Blind.

You will tell me if my choice is right.

Yeah what I see, first, there is an incredible musicality. Afterwards, all you have to do is adding the music, but it's already there intrinsically in the sentence. And above all, tell us the truth, you're a Shakespeare fan? It's Romeo and Juliet. A bit like that.

⭐For me, this ballad has always evoked my personal memory of a relationship between lovers that was affected by drug addiction.

It was about my friends from my youth and their suffering that almost resulted in the death of that girl. Fortunately, she eventually came out of her coma in the hospital and entered a drug addiction treatment facility.

Nevertheless, it was the end of great love, because the boy's parents, fearing for their son's life, moved so far away that the two lovers could no longer see each other. Life sometimes brings experiences that are very cruel and take a painful place in our souls for the rest of our lives.

Hello soulmates,
after a break caused by several important anniversaries, today we return to our beloved Placebo Lullabies.

Tonight is going to be special. I have two gems that give the term Placebo lullaby its true meaning.
I chose these two songs from ๐Œ๐„๐ƒ๐’ album today also because they were both part of Placebo's ๐Ÿ”น๐Œ๐Ÿ” ๐๐ซ๐ข๐ฏ๐š๐ญ๐ž ๐‚๐จ๐ง๐œ๐ž๐ซ๐ญ ๐ข๐ง ๐Œ๐š๐ฅ๐š๐ค๐จ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ, ๐…๐ซ๐š๐ง๐œ๐ž, ๐จ๐ง ๐€๐ฎ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ, ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ”น and followed each other, so it was very easy to upload a video with both songs at once.

So today you can enjoy a unique concert with Brian's fragile expression of a shy puppy, which I personally really love and recommend to anyone who doesn't know Placebo yet.

And even now, I play it several times in a row when I'm feeling down.

So dark, so melancholic, so intense... almost hypnotic... Leonard Cohen's influence is absolutely clear in this song.
I'm always struck at first by Brian's low-pitched voice, full of total surrender to bitter reality.

Although I've never tried hard drugs, this song is a reliable way for me to feel even worse in moments of self-disgust and enjoy the feeling, as crazy as it sounds.
It's a way for me to cry about not being in control of my life, and I know that relief will come right after because I will feel hope in my heart.

Hope for another day.
That everything I failed again will pass with the sunrise and I can try again.
And that I don't have to repeat the same mistake again.
For me personally, it's a beautiful and honest ballad about hope.
In the morning I will hear the kettle with hot water whistling again and the day will begin full of new opportunities for change.

If the first ballad is about hope, the second one is about pure human pain and knowing other forms of love.

It's a powerful image for me, with which I wanted to express how you can feel alone in a couple, how much you can let yourself being beaten physically and mentally by someone. Very cheerful, huh? "

This is the lullaby that always makes me cry when I let myself get carried away by this sad musical energy at night before bed.
Brian, in the form of a crying Pierrot, is in my mind and I can only add to that - '

If the victim of abuse gets over such brutal life experiences and understands their meaning, if he can then forgive himself and the other person with love, he will find his value and achieve a very deep spiritual knowledge.

I think it's a great shame because these songs are also indicators of Brian's masterful songwriting talent and Placebo's music made them unforgettable gems.

Dear friends, my post ends today. Enjoy part of this private concert from 2006, and as always, I look forward to hearing your feelings about these two wonderful lullabies. Tell me, which one do you like better and why? And how do you like the demo versions.

He also loved drawing and writing poetry and won awards for his poetry in high school. He formed a band called ๐‘ป๐’‰๐’† ๐‘ด๐’๐’•๐’•๐’๐’†๐’”, which was short-lived. ๐ŸŽค"For me, the first Pink Floyd album is a work of absolute genius. It's completely different from everything else they've done because by the time they get to write their second album, they kick out Syd Barrett, who started the band and who wrote all their songs, and then they become something else. What is great about this record is it sits on the border of garage rock from the 60s and psychedelia, you know, because essentially, Syd Barrett was very much inspired by the blues and it's a raw moment captured in time before psychedelia sort of ran away with itself (laughs). There's still like a real rough edge to it and you can really hear it on 'Lucifer Sam' and the guitars… there's no nice guitars, (laughs) but it don't have to be nice to be beautiful."

Do you notice how we gradually move from the earliest Placebo albums to the next ones? I may have missed some songs, but this is a pilgrimage of lullabies that please my soul, and of course not everyone necessarily agrees with my choice.
My main goal is to continue to take you through slow versions of Placebo's fast rock hits.
Today's choice fell on a song from the ๐Œ๐„๐ƒ๐’ ๐š๐ฅ๐›๐ฎ๐ฆ:

๐Ÿ”นWhen I first heard this song on the Meds album, it seemed like a clear straight return to the old Placebo. A great song with not too complicated text that again, as is usual with Brian's lyrics, can be interpreted in multiple ways.

๐Ÿ”นBut true love only came with the slow version that I heard for the first time - in a live performance at the M6 Private concert in 2006.
Suddenly the lyrics is more speculated.. More contradictory...
Do you feel the same way?
That the rhythm and musical arrangement will change your perception of the text?

๐Ÿ”นOriginally a very brisk song, it seems to indicate a clear solution - things are the way they are (narrator's alcoholism) and you, my love, make your choice, because you know I want you anyway...

๐Ÿ”นBut once the rhythm of the song slows down, the narrator's greater indecision becomes apparent. He knows that his actions (alcohol) are destroying their beautiful relationship.

it's Wednesday and therefore our favorite topic can continue again.

The first lullaby puts you in the mood for a gentle evening mainly thanks to Brian's voice, even though the lyrics take us again to the dark depths of the human ego.

This piano ballad is a beautiful intimate confession of saying goodbye to my old self who was subject to self-destructive relationships. There are a lot of references to my old life... and some moments I'm really not proud of...

Sometimes I too 'burned' emotional cigarettes on the chest of the man who loved me. Such relationships are always self-destructive for both parties, because no matter how inflated your ego is, your heart will always show you that you have not behaved properly.

That's why I initially took this song as a mirror setting. That's what Placebo music can do. We are not always the victim in a relationship, sometimes it is necessary to admit that we have played the game on our side of the field and don't always play by the rules.

Today I know that self-awareness is the most important part of lived experiences. What my role was, what should I have understood from this situation and how important it is to be able to forgive, both myself and others.

The original version comes from unique singer Sinรฉad O'Connor. Do you already know which song we are talking about?

It is for a man who is leaving her. By covering it, as the three of us are guys, we somewhat perverted the meaning and we like that. It adds a sexual ambiguity that looks like us...

This epic story can be interpreted in different ways, in any case, performed by Brian, it's a breathtaking lullaby.

This song always connects me to my meditative moments by the sea.
I live inland, but I have been to the sea many times and I return with love every time. I always need to find a quiet place where I can sit undisturbed, watch the waves move, feel the sand moving under my feet and just be... part of the whole universe...

And when I look at that amount of untamed water that has tremendous power, I can imagine the pain of millions of people who have lost a loved one at sea. This great mass of water gives and takes life.

Although Sinead's original Jackie is beautiful, Brian makes me feel more of the pain, the non-acceptance of reality, the denial that it can't be over yet. The false hope that everyone must have been wrong. My love is still alive and coming for me.

Enjoy a great live performance of Jackie from ⭐๐‹๐ข๐ฏ๐ž ๐Œ๐Ÿ” ๐๐ซ๐ข๐ฏ๐š๐ญ๐ž ๐‚๐จ๐ง๐œ๐ž๐ซ๐ญ ๐…๐ซ๐š๐ง๐œ๐ž ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ” and I'm really looking forward to

Let’s continue talking about Placebo album covers and today, it’s

In 2016, when ranking Placebo records in the interview for Vice, ๐‘ฉ๐’“๐’Š๐’‚๐’ rated their third studio album ๐๐‹๐€๐‚๐Š ๐Œ๐€๐‘๐Š๐„๐“ ๐Œ๐”๐’๐ˆ๐‚ (2000) as his least favourite.

I guess I put it there because I think it's the record that suffers most from having a blanket sound. We do our best to not make records that do that. It's part of our modus operandi. But it also happens to be the first time we also had a number one album, and in typical Brian Molko style, I put it at the bottom. [Laughs] I think it's a real somber record, so it doesn't really conjure up euphoria, which I suppose is what I look for in music. It was recorded during the height of our party phase, and once we had recorded all of our instruments, we had turned the studio into a place to have guests. So we spent a lot of time entertaining people while our producer spent a lot of time working on the album alone. I think if we'd been a little more involved, then perhaps there would be a little more light and color. It's quite a monochrome album for me. It's a very deep wood color, with stripes of gunmetal grey when I picture it.

Yeah, and perhaps that's it. Perhaps the whole package is a little too gothic for me. I like to try and make an album with light and shade, and this one has the least.

๐ŸŸจAs you may guess, it’s impossible that Placebo would choose a meaningless random image for their album cover. Back in the days when the record was about to be released, the guys had quite an interesting idea behind
