In London, 𝑺𝒚𝒅 𝑩𝒂𝒓𝒓𝒆𝒕𝒕 reconnected with 𝑹𝒐𝒈𝒆𝒓 𝑾𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒔, his school friend from Cambridge. Waters had formed a band with 𝑹𝒊𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒅 𝑾𝒓𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 and 𝑵𝒊𝒄𝒌 𝑴𝒂𝒔𝒐𝒏, which was called The Sigma 6. When one of the members left, Barrett joined the band, which went through several name changes and was finally named 𝑷𝒊𝒏𝒌 𝑭𝒍𝒐𝒚𝒅 by Barrett in 1965, after two U.S. blues musicians, Pink Anderson and Floyd Council. In April 1968, Barrett was expelled from the band amid speculation about mental illness and his excessive use of psychedelic drugs. In 1996, Barrett was inducted into the 𝑹𝒐𝒄𝒌 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑹𝒐𝒍𝒍 𝑯𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒐𝒇 𝑭𝒂𝒎𝒆 as a member of 𝑷𝒊𝒏𝒌 𝑭𝒍𝒐𝒚𝒅. He died of pancreatic cancer in 2006.
Several artists have acknowledged 𝑺𝒚𝒅 𝑩𝒂𝒓𝒓𝒆𝒕𝒕's influence such as 𝑩𝒍𝒖𝒓, 𝑷𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝑼𝒃𝒖, 𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒄 𝑩𝒐𝒍𝒂𝒏, 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑭𝒍𝒂𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑳𝒊𝒑𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏 𝑫𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒅 𝑩𝒐𝒘𝒊𝒆.

𝑫𝒂𝒓𝒌 𝑮𝒍𝒐𝒃𝒆 is an original song from 𝑺𝒚𝒅 𝑩𝒂𝒓𝒓𝒆𝒕𝒕's first solo album "𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑴𝒂𝒅𝒄𝒂𝒑 𝑳𝒂𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒔" (1970) which was recorded at 𝑨𝒃𝒃𝒆𝒚 𝑹𝒐𝒂𝒅 𝑺𝒕𝒖𝒅𝒊𝒐𝒔 on August 5, 1969 produced by 𝑷𝒊𝒏𝒌 𝑭𝒍𝒐𝒚𝒅 members 𝑫𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒅 𝑮𝒊𝒍𝒎𝒐𝒖𝒓 and 𝑹𝒐𝒈𝒆𝒓 𝑾𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒔. It is a melancholic song that gives a glimpse of what 𝑺𝒚𝒅 may have been feeling about his mental health, the lines,

seems to be a reference to his girlfriend at the time, 𝑬𝒗𝒆𝒍𝒚𝒏 𝑹𝒐𝒔𝒆, better known by the nicknames "𝑰𝒈𝒈𝒚 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑬𝒔𝒌𝒊𝒎𝒐" and "𝑰𝒈𝒈𝒚 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑰𝒏𝒖𝒊𝒕", who is also the lady who appears on the back cover of the album.

🎤𝐒𝐲𝐝: Yes, very much. It would be terrific to do much more mood stuff. They're very pure, you know, the words...I feel I'm jabbering. I really think the whole thing is based on me being a guitarist and having done the last thing about two or three years ago in a group around England and Europe and The States, and then coming back and hardly having done anything, so I don't really know what to say. I feel, perhaps, I could be claimed as being redundant almost. I don't feel active, and that my public conscience is fully satisfied.

𝑫𝒂𝒓𝒌 𝑮𝒍𝒐𝒃𝒆 was one of the first covers 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆𝒃𝒐 recorded on the sessions of their debut album at 𝑾𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑺𝒕𝒖𝒅𝒊𝒐𝒔, 𝑫𝒖𝒃𝒍𝒊𝒏, 𝑰𝒓𝒆𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒅. It was produced by 𝑩𝒓𝒂𝒅 𝑾𝒐𝒐𝒅 and engineered by 𝑬𝒅 𝑲𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒉𝒂𝒏 and later this cover appeared as a b-side of the "𝟑𝟔 𝑫𝒆𝒈𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒔" single released on June 3, 1996.
