Let's start with a short passage from one of Timo's last interviews:

TM: "I started collecting records in the late 1970s and started playing some music out for my friends when I was 13 that was in 1982. I understood pretty quickly that music was my language to communicate with people. I was a very shy bloke when I was young and due to my love for music, I found ways to talk to people through it."

TM: There`s many, as life is very diverse… learning never stops as long you stay openminded, grounded, honest, and have the ability of not being up your own arse“ all the time …

TM: The love for the music, the love for having the opportunity to take people on a trip and out of reality for a bit… I really really love this.

German DJ, producer and remixer 🎈𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗢 𝗠𝗔𝗔𝗦 🎈 was born on July 27th 1969.
Timo bought his first set of turntables when he was 17 years old and played his very first DJ set in 1982 at a party at a friend's home. In 1992 he started to Dj in the European rave scene, earning a name in the electronic underground world. Maas' first record "The Final XS" was released in 1995.
Up to now he has released three albums and almost 50 singles and EPs. His songs appear on more than 380 music compilations and he is credited on about 800 remixes.
Over the years Maas has collaborated with and remixed many artists such as 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲, 𝗣𝗮𝘂𝗹 𝗠𝗰𝗖𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝘆, 𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗮, 𝗧𝗼𝗿𝗶 𝗔𝗺𝗼𝘀, 𝗠𝗼𝗯𝘆, 𝗙𝗮𝘁𝗯𝗼𝘆 𝗦𝗹𝗶𝗺, 𝗚𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗴𝗲, 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗶, 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝗲, 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝟮𝟭 and of course 𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗖𝗘𝗕𝗢. Since 2008 he runs his own record label Rockets & Ponies.

Timo Maas is also a resident at the legendary 𝐈𝐛𝐢𝐳𝐚 𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐛 𝐃𝐂𝟏𝟎, where he invited Brian to a joint DJ party 𝐈𝐃𝐎𝐋 in 2018. The photos from this iconic dance party are some of my favorites.

𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐨 𝐌𝐚𝐚𝐬: I wouldn't go so far to say that it has influenced my personality…but surely [it] has been and is always again very inspiring, no matter working with or for Brian, the band or also Stef`s new project (remix for Digital 21). I simply love and respect the guys loads and I think this will never change.

🔸17 years ago, the album 𝗣𝗜𝗖𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗘𝗦 by 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗼 𝗠𝗮𝗮𝘀 was released, on June 20, 2005.

 Long-time friends, 𝗗𝗝 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗼 𝗠𝗮𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝘀𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻 to collaborate on this album. Containing 12 tracks, Brian provides vocals on three of them:

🔸 After the instrumentals were done, Timo was looking for vocals and he thought of Brian who "𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑡𝑜𝑡𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑦 𝑢𝑝 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑖𝑡, 𝑐𝑎𝑚𝑒 𝑜𝑣𝑒𝑟 𝑡𝑜 𝐻𝑎𝑛𝑜𝑣𝑒𝑟 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑟𝑒𝑐𝑜𝑟𝑑𝑒𝑑 𝑡𝑤𝑜 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑟𝑒𝑒 𝑡𝑟𝑎𝑐𝑘𝑠 𝑖𝑛 𝑎 𝑑𝑎𝑦, 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑛 [𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑦] 𝑚𝑒𝑡 𝑢𝑝 𝑖𝑛 𝐿𝑜𝑛𝑑𝑜𝑛 𝑡𝑜 𝑑𝑜 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑟𝑑." 🔸 As for Brian, he was immediately hooked by the sounds Timo just sent him:

🔸 The atmosphere of 𝗣𝗶𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 is totally special. The character that inhabits the album is a cold and dangerous personality between an emotionless voyeur and a sociopath. The guest vocals are exceptional, the musical touches are unusual and the whole concept makes it quite awesome !

Today we celebrate the ♦️𝟏𝟕𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐍𝐍𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐀𝐑𝐘♦️ of “First day”. The song was a collaboration of German DJ Timo Maas, Brian and Jokate (or Jo Kate) Benson, a relatively unknown singer from Bristol. It was released on May 30th 2005 and reached no. 51 in the UK Single Charts.

Two different versions of the single were put out. One of them includes the radio edit of “First day“ and an extendend version, the other one consists of six remixes plus the video clip.
The song also appears on the album “Pictures“ which was released in June 2005. Apart from “First day“ you can find two other songs featuring Brian on this record, namely “Like siamese“ and “Pictures“.

“First day“ was written by Brian, Jokate, Timo Maas and Martin Buttrich, the two last-named were the producers of the single. Martin is an all-rounder when it comes to playing instruments, he did the bass, guitar, drums and also keybords on the track.

Exactly 10 years ago, on November 7th 2011, the single by German DJ and producer Timo Maas 𝐂𝐎𝐋𝐋𝐄𝐆𝐄 𝟖𝟒 was released. [...] By the time I reached London, all that was missing [for “Trigger happy hands”] was the music. A few months later, in a serendipitous twist of fate, my friend and German Superstar DJ Timo Maas got back in touch, asking if I would be interested in working on some lyrics and perhaps singing on his new album. I found the skelleted electronic tracks he had sent me quite exiting, and I would eventually end up guesting on three album tracks. One track, however, leaped out of the stereo at me and screamed "sing over me now!". I began to mumble the words I had written that day on the train and they seemed to fit perfectly. So enamoured was I by this happy accident that I contacted Timo immediately to say that I would gladly sing on his new album, but only if he would "donate" said piece of music to the Placebo cause. 16 years ago, on the 30th of May 2005, “First day“ was released, so today we can celebrate its ♦️𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗔𝗥𝗬♦️. The song was a collaboration of German DJ W Timo Maas, Brian and Jokate (or Jo Kate) Benson, a relatively unknown singer from Bristol. The song reached no. 51 in the UK Single Charts.

Two different versions of the single were put out. One of them includes the radio edit of “First day“ and an extendend version, the other one consists of six remixes plus the video clip. The song also appears on the album “Pictures“ which was released in June 2005.
“First day“ was written by Brian, Jokate, Timo Maas and Martin Buttrich, the two last-named were the producers of the single. Martin is obviously an all-rounder when it comes to playing instruments he did the bass, guitar, drums and also keybords on the track.

The album includes eleven songs, four of them collaborations with other artists. “College 84” is the last song on the record and in my opinion it's a perfect way to say goodbye to the listeners.
Also in 2013 a vinyl album titled “Lifer Remixed“ was released which contains two remixes of the song,

What's interesting about “College 84“ is that the single and the official video were put out in 2011, about one and a half years before the album was finally released. On the single you can find the original song, a radio edit and three more remixes.

STORY BEHIND A PICTURE: DJ Set by Brian Molko & Timo Maas

Three days ago, on July 27, Timo Maas celebrated his birthday. So today I decided to share an interview with him together with a photo taken two years ago, on July 31, 2018, in Ibiza at the DJ Set they played with his “dear friend”, “the true IDOL he really is Brian Molko” as Timo beautifully wrote on his IG.

"WE ARE ABLE TO BRING PEOPLE TOGETHER"

Anastasiya Loginova: Timo, how did you meet Brian Molko and Placebo? How did your collaboration start? If I remember correctly, your first collaboration was on tracks for the Pictures album?
Timo Maas: I met the band back in 2001 at a festival in Turkey… Then the first work was the TM remix for SPECIAL K.

AL: Why did you choose Special K for you remix? Did this specific track inspire you?
Timo Maas: I loved the track and also they asked me :)

AL: You did a joint DJ set with Brian in Ibiza on July 31. Was this your first experience with him as a DJ?
Timo Maas: Yes, [it] was the first time. As he only rarely did something like this!

AL: Is it easier to work with a partner than by yourself?
Timo Maas: We played in fact individual sets that night. We both did our thing.

AL: Communicating or collaborating with someone can inspire or bring important changes into your life. What can you say about your relationship and mutual work with Brian and Placebo? Has it influenced your life or personality?
Timo Maas: I wouldn't go so far to say that it has influenced my personality…but surely [it] has been and is always again very inspiring, no matter working with or for Brian, the band or also Stef`s new project (remix for Digital 21). I simply love and respect the guys loads and I think this will never change.

AL: In one of your interviews you said that artists were, in a way, politicians: "We bring people together no matter what race, religion or sex or anything... all for doing something together: dancing!" Placebo really inspire me as a band that is prepared to go anywhere where a gig can be organised and where fans can come hear them play, regardless of the political situation. Do you agree that an artist's first priority should be to perform for music lovers, and that there should be no boundaries between them?
Timo Maas: Totally agree, as I said many times before… We are more politicians than the politicians themselves… Аnd we are exactly able to bring people together, no matter what and not separate them, as most of the politicians do unfortunately.

AL: As a creative person, how do you usually organise your work routine? Do you have special tips like check lists or something else?
Timo Maas: Everyone's different really. My work is somehow 24/7, everything to combine with being a father with all its needs…There is really no standard recipe for me.
