Catherine Bush, better known as Kate Bush, is an English singer, songwriter and record producer who was born on July 30th 1958 and celebrates her 64th birthday today. She comes from an artistic background. Her mother was an amateur traditional Irish dancer, her father was an amateur pianist and both of her brothers were involved in the local folk music scene.

The artist is best known for her hit “Running up that hill” which was covered by Placebo in 2003. Recently the original song gained new popularity thanks to its importance in the latest season of “Stranger Things” and reached top positions in charts all over the world.

Kate Bush began to write songs at the age of eleven. She was signed to EMI Records after Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour helped produce a demo tape. Kate's debut single “Wuthering heights” was released in 1978 when she was only 19 years old and reached no. 1 in the UK Singles Chart, where it stayed for four weeks. She was the first female artist that achieved the number one with a self-written song. Kate's first album “The kick inside“ sold over a million copies alone in the UK.
Up to now Kate Bush has released ten studio albums, all of them were in the UK Top 10, two of these albums even reached no. 1.

“Tour of Life“, Kate Bush's only concert tour ever, ran for six weeks in May 1979, covering Britain and mainland Europe. In 2014 she announced her first live dates in decades. This series of 22 shows running at the Hammersmith Apollo in London was called “Before the dawn“, the tickets were sold out in only 15 minutes.
In December 2018 she published her first book, a compilation of lyrics entitled “How to be invisible“.

Kate Bush was in a long-term relationship with bassist and engineer Del Palmer from the late 1970s to the early 1990s. She is now married to guitarist Danny McIntosh, they have a son named Albert. Kate dedicaded the song “Bertie” to him.

With “Running up that hill” Kate recently scored her first ever Top 10 hit in the USA on the Billboard Hot 100 with the highest new entry at number 8. Her previous best was with the same song at number 30 in 1985. 37 years is by the way the longest ever gap between a song’s debut and its first appearance in the US Top 10. The track has also reached no. 2 in the UK Top 40. It peaked no. 1 in Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland and Sweden and entered top positions in many other countries all over the world. Running up that hill” climbed to number 1 on the Global Daily Spotify Chart on June 7th and was the no. 1 song in 18 different countries on Spotify and no. 1 on iTunes in Ireland, the UK and the USA. “ Last but not least it was the most searched for song in the world on the Shazam app. An impressive success, especially so many years after the original release of the single.

It was originally named “A deal with God” but the representatives of her record label refused to release it under this title. So the single was released as “Running up that hill” but on the album the song was still listed as "Running up that hill (A deal with God)". ✨Dear Soulmates, this evening I'd like to introduce you to 𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗼𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗯𝗼, an italian Placebo cover band in activity from 2003 to 2016. ✨
Over those years the band played hundreds live shows in Italy, Europe and Asia with great success, and in 2004 they even had the opportunity to personally get in touch with Placebo themselves, who on that occasion appointed 𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗼𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗯𝗼 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗱.

I would say the guys do have something to be proud of, don't you think?🤩 So, let's read together an intense biography of the band:

🅱🅸🅾🅶🆁🅰🅿🅷🆈
EffettoPlacebo started their career on December 20th 2003, playing in Prato (Tuscany, Italy) at the presentation of Placebo’s biography, published by Arcana.
From that moment onwards, an endless tour took the band playing in the best Italian live clubs for the following 5 years.

On March 20th and 21st 2004, EffettoPlacebo organizes together with PlaceboItalia, the first “Placeboitaliaweekend”, a two-days event with an evening live show and a fans meeting the following day in Florence auditorium.
October 2004 sees the most important week in their career: on the 23rd, the band presents the brand new single “20years” by Placebo; on the 24th they’re invited as guests at 𝗠𝗧𝗩 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗰 for the “real” Placebo’s performance, and on the 25th during MTV show TRL -Total Request Live- 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗺𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗯𝗼 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝗹𝗸𝗼 & 𝗰𝗼. 𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗯𝗼 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗱.

On March 16th 2006, in cooperation with Radiorock and Virgin Italia, the band is in charge of launching the preview of “Meds” album for Italy during an unforgettable show at Qube club in Rome, where they hand out gadgets and CD singles on behalf of Placebo, as a gift to their fans.
On October 9th 2006, the band is back on show in Milan at the Transilvania and they perform at the Mazda Palace just after the Placebo’s gig, in a new fans meeting, which will never be forgotten.
The band cooperate with the major Italian, French and South American websites regarding Placebo.

In December 2007 and May 2008 EffettoPlacebo leave Italy to go on tour abroad, especially in Turkey where they get a huge success, sold-out gigs and lots of interviews for MTV Turkey as most requested tribute band of the year, thus creating a twinning between the Italian and the Turkish fans communities.
In 2010 and 2011 the band leaves for the 𝗡𝗮𝗻𝗰𝘆𝗯𝗼𝘆 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗿, 𝗮 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗴𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗯𝗼 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝟱 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝘀𝗶𝗮: Italy, Turkey, Cyprus, Holland and Belgium.

Several members took turns in the band from 2003 to 2012, but the two core members of EffettoPlacebo are:
𝗞𝗜𝗞𝗜 – 𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗗 𝗦𝗜𝗡𝗚𝗘𝗥 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗚𝗨𝗜𝗧𝗔𝗥
Simone Baldassin, aka Kiki, was born in Treviso. He started his song-writer career in 1995 and over the years learned to play bass guitar, acoustic guitar, synth and electronic guitar. He set up Alternathiva, an electronic music band that disbanded in 2003 when Kiki became a singer and founded EffettoPlacebo.
As side projects, he first set up the indie band Seven- with which he released two albums- and then the Killtherabbit - with which he released one debut album.
Furthermore Kiki is both the creator and the manager of the 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗯𝗼'𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗯𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗯𝗼𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗮.𝗰𝗼𝗺, 𝗮𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗯𝗼 𝗜𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗮 𝗙𝗕 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆.


𝗭𝗜𝗢𝗔𝗟𝗘 – 𝗕𝗔𝗦𝗦 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗕𝗔𝗖𝗞𝗚𝗥𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗗 𝗩𝗢𝗖𝗔𝗟
Alessandro “ZioAle” Pisu was born in Treviso. He learned to play bass by himself, and together with Federico Roncato, (former drummer of EffettoPlacebo) he set up Valium, a Nirvana cover band.
He joined EffettoPlacebo in 2004, and toured several countries with the band such as Cyprus, Turkey, Holland, Belgium and, of course, Italy.

EffettoPlacebo stopped their activity as Tribute band in 2012: after 10 years playing Placebo songs across Italy and Europe, they took a long break to dedicate to their own projects.
The band has never officially dissolved, they just decided not to perform more live shows.
From time to time they produce some studio recordings as "Running up that hill" for Placebo20's birthday and they do not exclude- sooner or later- to come back to play live. So, maybe we'll be able to see them playing live again from March 25th on 🤩🤩.

Reading these statements I thought of Brian's quotes about artists' nomadic way of life when on tour: as fans, we experience only the joyful aspects, the positive emotions, the “collective euphoria” using Brian's words, but for artists it is undoubtely true that “pleasure comes with a price” both physically and mentally and at times it can be really exhausting and disorienting. Anyway this is the price that artists are willing to pay to live with their passions, and we are grateful for that.

🔸Dear Soulmates, today, i'd like to talk a bit about the 80's and Placebo.

Placebo is a band who grew up in the 80's and keep saying they are children of the 80's.

" So when we cover songs, we have a tendency to go back to the 80s and cover songs which got us interested in pop music. That's why you've got Johnny and Mary by Robert Palmer, that's why you've got Daddy Cool by Boney M -- or Running up that hill, for that matter. These are songs which remind us of our childhood and make us feel nostalgic, which is why we try to do something modern with them.”

A long-standing desire for Brian it would seem. To be honest, I am quite curious how it could sound between Placebo's hands ! 😊

🔸We can say Placebo are not influenced by the 80's music sonically speaking because even the covers have this particular and recognisable Placebo sound. They like these songs at a personal level. But it can't be denied what attracted them too was the artists who got their very own personal touch (Talk Talk, Kate Bush). and their own strong personality. Although Placebo did not cover any of Serge Gainsbourg's songs from the 1980s, he was (and remains) an important figure in the media landscape during that period. Gainsbourg's strong personality was not lost on Brian.

The 80's songs Placebo decided to cover are more than just danceable tunes, they all deal with strong, deep and true emotions, which lead to internal questionings about ourselves or about the world we live in through the lyrics or the videos. A significant and valuable topic for the band. It may be a way for them to beat this nostalgic feeling when they listen to them ? 🔸


I'd like to share Nik Kershaw's cover because it was the one I was the most happily surprised when I first heard it because I've always loved it since my childhood 💕
