Hi dear soulmates!
Last week I started telling you about Placebo 𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐨𝐮𝐫 2010. Now, I’m going to continue with another great 𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐕𝐈𝐄𝐖 that Brian did for Australian Radio Station 𝑻𝒓𝒊𝒑𝒍𝒆 𝑱 on March 1st in Perth. Obviously, the interviewers were young and funny guys, so, together with Brian’s perfect sense of humour, the chat turned to be quite ridiculous at times but very honest as well.

𝐁: It’s alright, you know, I think it's a cultural thing you notice. I think this is certain kind of familiarity that kind of comes with being an Australian. I'm used to it, I'm in a band with an American, you know, and it's kind of like ‘Hello, I’ve just met you, you’re my best friend!’ [imitates American accent and laughs]. So I'm kinda used to it.

𝐁: My favourite show was our own show that we played in Melbourne, at the Festival Hall, a few days ago. It was pretty magical, one of those moments of collective euphoria that just eveything’s just gonna slot into its place.

𝐁: Would you like a diplomatic answer or a truthful one?
Int. 1: 𝑰 𝒘𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒂 𝒕𝒓𝒖𝒕𝒉𝒇𝒖𝒍 𝒐𝒏𝒆.
𝐁: Everybody has a bad day, certainly it happens to everyone. I think the most recent one was on the 22nd of December, 2009, and we played in a ski resort in Italy, and the weather was terrible, it took us like 2 days to get up the mountain, when we got there it was like a football field covered in snow with 50 people in it. We’re on stage and the stage is leaking water, all the equipment is just breaking, and you just ask yourself like, "Why am I here? What am I doing?" It's 3 days from Christmas and I’m stuck up a mountain, nothing works, nobody's here, "What am I doing with my life?" and I was just like, I put some sunglasses on and just kind of grinned and bared it to the end. So obviously it's got a lot to do with the whole bunch of different conditions, really.

𝐁: For a band, when you’re kinda… when the instruments are not working or when you have technical problems, you just feel like an amputee on stage, that's one condition that makes it quite difficult. Everybody has a bad day, everybody wakes up occasionally at the wrong side of the bed, everybody has stuff going on in their life which can kind of influence a bad show sometimes as well, so we are only human. But the thing about the band is that regardless of all these factors, we try to pay maximum respect to the people who show up and so we do our best to give 100% whatever the conditions are. But, being human, this is only so much that we can do on certain days.

𝐁: Well, I think what you do from the time is that you learn to sort of become less precious, you kind of understand the context a lot more of what you're doing. When you are 22-23, every little tiny thing that goes wrong is sort of like a matter of life and death to you. I think you sort of get more distance and more balance from the whole thing, just through experience. So you’re a little bit kind of less emotional about the whole thing. You understand like ‘It’s quite ok, this too shall pass’, you know.

At the end of February to the beginning of March 2010 Placebo did an 𝑨𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒂𝒏 𝒍𝒆𝒈 𝒐𝒇 𝑩𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒍𝒆 𝑭𝒐𝒓 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒖𝒏 𝒕𝒐𝒖𝒓. They played 9 shows including MySpace Secret Show that took place in Sydney on the same day as the concert at the Enmore Theatre.

I picked up the parts of the chat connected to Australia as a topic of today’s post. The part where Brian tells about their concert at Angkor Wat and human trafficking is missed because there are a lot of other interviews dedicated exactly to that performance. 𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐉: It's lovely to have you here and back to Australia once again, a place you've been to many, many times, does it kinda feel like the second home to you?

𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧: Well, if it was a second home it probably wouldn’t be so far away ... I think I would spend a lot more time here because I like it so much if it wasn’t such a bitch to get to. You know, I have an issue with flying, I really dislike it.

𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐉: What do you do to calm the nerves? When you get on the 30 hours flights?

𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧: Sedatives. I have to sedate myself, you know.

𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐉: …Have you seen that Placebo audience has changed over the years as you've been coming to Australia?

𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧: Yeah, you know, every time we come back there's a whole new generation of 15, 16 years old, sort of move down the front and discover the band on that recent album and then people… who were there before, on previous tours, just kind of move back a little bit further into the audience but they're still there. So it remains cross-generational.

𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐉: Yeah, which must be exciting for you as well, to keep the energy alive to watch that...

𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧: Absolutely, the fact that these guys in their mid-30s can write songs which people who are 15 years old can understand and connect with says a lot about us as people but I think it's fortuitous in a professional way, you know, for our jobs, it's kinda good.

𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐉: Are there anything in terms of being in Australia, is there anything left on your to-do-list. Do you still come down here sort of think "I really gotta go to that wildlife park or go to see that museum or just go jumping the particular beach, is there anything left you really wanna do this time around?

𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧: You know, I normally hit the beach, a lot, which is I think a lot of people are quite surprised about. As a band we are always trying to encourage the goths to get a sun tan. That's perhaps another cause we are involved.

𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐉: Tan up goths?

𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧: I remember I did a signing once in Australia, and a girl came in and she was so pale, she was definitely white. We were sitting there in our shorts, signing CDs and things like that. And I said “Hey, you know, you should really get yourself down to the beach!” And she said “But it doesn’t go with my clothes.”

📢The same day, 𝑺𝒕𝒆𝒇𝒂𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑺𝒕𝒆𝒗𝒆 did an interview with Video Hits. Besides Battle For The Sun album, they talked about covering Running Up That Hill, and Stef told about him meeting Kate Bush that seemed to be an exciting fact for the interviewer.

It's time to remember a lively 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆𝒃𝒐 performance, and I refer to their participation at the 𝑩𝒊𝒈 𝑫𝒂𝒚 𝑶𝒖𝒕 𝑭𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒂𝒍 that began on January 19, 2001 in Auckland, New Zealand, passing through Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Gold Coast and ended on February 4 in Perth, Australia.

𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆𝒃𝒐 played in all the cities mentioned above, they were headlining along with 𝑷𝑱 𝑯𝒂𝒓𝒗𝒆𝒚 (It was during this festival that was taken that photo where Brian appears alongside her), 𝑪𝒐𝒍𝒅𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒚, 𝑹𝒂𝒎𝒎𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒊𝒏, 𝑸𝒖𝒆𝒆𝒏𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒕𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝑨𝒈𝒆, 𝑨𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑫𝒓𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝑰𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒅… 𝑳𝒊𝒎𝒑 𝑩𝒊𝒛𝒌𝒊𝒕, with whose leader they had that famous incident in New York in 1998 and who kept spreading "bad vibes" as 𝑺𝒕𝒆𝒇𝒂𝒏 𝑶𝒍𝒔𝒅𝒂𝒍 revealed to 𝑹𝒐𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑺𝒕𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝑨𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒂 after their show in Gold Coast that you can read here:

📍The historic 𝑩𝒊𝒈 𝑫𝒂𝒚 𝑶𝒖𝒕 𝑭𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒂𝒍 was the first annual festival held in Australia, since 1992, after 𝑽𝒊𝒐𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝑭𝒆𝒎𝒎𝒆𝒔 announced an Australian tour and promoters 𝑲𝒆𝒏 𝑾𝒆𝒔𝒕 and 𝑽𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒂𝒏 𝑳𝒆𝒆𝒔 got 𝑵𝒊𝒓𝒗𝒂𝒏𝒂 to support their concert at the 𝑯𝒐𝒓𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒏 𝑷𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒐𝒏 in Sydney. Later, the festival expanded to include other cities in Australia and Auckland in New Zealand. It mainly featured international rock acts but there was also electronic music, hip hop, punk, heavy metal and other genres. Each city had the same headlining bands, as well as additional local live bands in each location. The partnership between the founders 𝑾𝒆𝒔𝒕 and 𝑳𝒆𝒆𝒔 was dissolved in November 2011. The American company 𝑪3, which has owned the entire festival since June 2014, stated that the 2015 festival was being canceled and that it was intended to bring back the festival in the coming years, which has not happened so far.

It's not the complete set but the songs featured are some of their greatest classics today and we can also see 𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒏 𝑴𝒐𝒍𝒌𝒐 in one of his most flamboyant looks: long red skirt, 𝑨𝒈𝒏𝒆̀𝒔 𝑩 white top and a cowboy hat.✨🤘🤠❤️✨
