The ๐‘ท๐’๐’๐’š๐’‡๐’๐’“๐’–๐’Ž ๐‘ช๐’–๐’๐’•๐’–๐’“๐’‚๐’ ๐‘บ๐’Š๐’’๐’–๐’†๐’Š๐’“๐’๐’” is a venue located south of ๐‘ด๐’†๐’™๐’Š๐’„๐’ ๐‘ช๐’Š๐’•๐’š that, due to its imposing dimensions and high social and humanist content, attempts to call human beings to establish freedom, welfare and justice on earth through art. It was built in 1966 and inaugurated in 1971 and is a true work of art in every way, first for its innovative architectural design, a dodecahedron on the outside and an octagon on the inside, that is, 12 walls on the facade and 8 inside the building; and second because in its installations it is the largest mural in the world entitled ๐‘ป๐’‰๐’† ๐‘ด๐’‚๐’“๐’„๐’‰ ๐’๐’‡ ๐‘ฏ๐’–๐’Ž๐’‚๐’๐’Š๐’•๐’š by the ๐‘ด๐’†๐’™๐’Š๐’„๐’‚๐’ painter ๐‘ซ๐’‚๐’—๐’Š๐’… ๐‘จ๐’๐’‡๐’‚๐’“๐’ ๐‘บ๐’Š๐’’๐’–๐’†๐’Š๐’“๐’๐’”, that is why ๐‘ด๐’‚๐’๐’–๐’†๐’ ๐‘บ๐’–๐’‚́๐’“๐’†๐’› ๐’š ๐‘บ๐’–๐’‚́๐’“๐’†๐’› named the venue in honor of him.

The mural has an area of 2,400 meters and covers from side to side and from ceiling to floor of the ๐‘ญ๐’๐’“๐’–๐’Ž ๐‘ผ๐’๐’Š๐’—๐’†๐’“๐’”๐’‚๐’ (main hall of the ๐‘ท๐’๐’๐’š๐’‡๐’๐’“๐’–๐’Ž). The work is divided into four zones and is a mixture of pictorial styles ranging from new realism, through expressionism and abstractionism, showing the evolution of humanity from the past to the present, as well as a vision of the future. In addition, part of the interior mural is three-dimensional, which gives an immersive sensation typical of ๐‘บ๐’Š๐’’๐’–๐’†๐’Š๐’“๐’๐’”' surrealist and expressionist influences. About his work, ๐‘บ๐’Š๐’’๐’–๐’†๐’Š๐’“๐’๐’” wrote:

Back to ๐‘ท๐’๐’‚๐’„๐’†๐’ƒ๐’, in March 2007 the band visited ๐‘ด๐’†๐’™๐’Š๐’„๐’ for the second time with the "๐‘ด๐’†๐’…๐’” ๐‘ป๐’๐’–๐’“", this acoustic concert was the first of five concerts they would offer in that second visit, since after this one they performed in ๐‘ด๐’๐’๐’•๐’†๐’“๐’“๐’†๐’š, ๐‘ฎ๐’–๐’‚๐’…๐’‚๐’๐’‚๐’‹๐’‚๐’“๐’‚ and two nights in a row in ๐‘ด๐’†๐’™๐’Š๐’„๐’ ๐‘ช๐’Š๐’•๐’š.
Besides the magnificent soulful interpretations, it was wonderful to see the smiling faces of ๐‘ฉ๐’“๐’Š๐’‚๐’ ๐‘ด๐’๐’๐’Œ๐’, ๐‘บ๐’•๐’†๐’‡๐’‚๐’ ๐‘ถ๐’๐’”๐’…๐’‚๐’ and ๐‘บ๐’•๐’†๐’—๐’† ๐‘ฏ๐’†๐’˜๐’Š๐’•๐’• throughout the acoustic session. They must have been very happy and grateful for the warm reception from the ๐‘ด๐’†๐’™๐’Š๐’„๐’‚๐’ fans who at the end of each song were clapping euphorically and shouting: "๐‘ท๐’๐’‚๐’„๐’†๐’ƒ๐’, ๐‘ท๐’๐’‚๐’„๐’†๐’ƒ๐’, ๐‘ท๐’๐’‚๐’„๐’†๐’ƒ๐’!
๐‘จ๐’๐’†๐’™ ๐‘ณ๐’†๐’† accompanied them on stage playing guitar, keyboards, glockenspiel and doing backing vocals, while ๐‘ฉ๐’Š๐’๐’ ๐‘ณ๐’๐’๐’š๐’… participated as audio engineer and in audio post-production.

⭐ After the first album, we found that the standard guitar, bass, drums format was quite limited. That's how we started our romance with technology. And we started to discover all these vintage synths, electronics, mixing stations, industry standards, until Sleeping with Ghosts which was very much computer based. Which is not necessarily a bad thing.

⭐ When it came time to create Meds, we first recorded two songs for the compilation of our singles (Once more with Feeling), and then we kind of felt that we were really moving towards space-rock. But under the pressure of our producer, we really felt that it was important for us to make an album as if it was the first, as if all our lives depended on it. He felt that technology was like a refuge for us, and he wanted to take us out of it. He wanted to put us in danger, to get us back to the soul and essence of a band.

⭐ We recorded the album as spontaneously as possible. We weren't too afraid of that, because we spent a lot of time doing what we call "cabaret shows", which is taking our songs and playing them on the piano, with brooms and stuff. We wanted to use the minimalist aspect of things. But that's something you can only really do if you feel you have the song to go with it.

⭐ It's a very good way of putting it on the table. I hate the word Mature. It sounds like cheese to me. In England we have mature cheddar, and it's cheese. I think it's a word that's overused by journalists.

⭐ I don't think I was trying to be provocative when I started. I just think I wasn't as good a composer as I am today. The compositions were much more subversive. We were kids crying for attention. For this album, I really wanted to get away from all the fancy stuff I've used in the past, and use everyday words. In fact, this album is quite dark, not particularly happy, but not adolescent either, I don't think, just aimlessly going through the world. It's a very human album, about abuse, addiction, anaesthesia. It's not a party album, but not an emo album either.

⭐ That's true, but we've always done things like that, like Teenage Angst, from the first album, which was musically upbeat, and the lyrics were almost the opposite. We've always liked to play with that dichotomy, to confuse the emotions. Maybe we naturally revolve around that, because that's how we feel about life... For me, anyway.

⭐ I tell stories. They're little fictions, like little stories... But for any style of writing, they tell what you know, so I write about situations and society, with a small s, that I encounter or that I see around me... About problems, emotional difficulties. These are things, the subject and the story, that I have encountered. But there are not as many pages torn out of my diary, as there are stories with characters you know? It's what they go through, what they experience, and that's an important point of contact for me. I think that's the most important thing to explain.

Dear friends, our virtual stop today will be in Bulgaria.
Bulgaria is a beautiful country on the Black Sea coast, full of very warm and friendly people, I like to go there.
Are there Bulgarian fans among you?

Placebo have performed 4 times in Bulgaria so far. The first performance was in 2003, the last in 2017.
I found an interview for you, which Brian gave before the concert in 2007.

๐Ÿ”ธ There are a few points that interested me - first, at the beginning, the reporter recalls the first Placebo Bulgarian concert as not very successful. I tried to find some information, but I only found out that this concert took place in a hall with seats and it was quite a big obstacle for the fans, which they probably tried to deal with in their own way.
Anyway, thanks to the reporter's mention, we know that Brian still enjoyed it๐Ÿ˜.

๐Ÿ”ธ I just want to talk the second point - I realized again how many life experiences the guys have gained throughout their careers so far...
You will notice this with the question about the work on the cover and the final image of their albums.

And in this post, I share with you the only quality video from this show. The song "Infra-Red" opened the setlist and this video is just amazing.
Enjoy Placebo from the MEDS era with me.

Dressed in black, with perfectly epilated chest, not taking off his sunglasses and with boots on in spite of the heat. We have an appointment with the greatest alternative singer from the Island after Thom Yorke.

Three years ago Placebo played in Bulgaria, disappointed with the venue and charmed by the audience. After he recklessly threw himself into the audience, the singer shared with us that he hadn't been touched by so many people for the last 5 years. This time Placebo were even more emotional, they changed guitars for each song and staked on long codes. An hour before the concert I am sitting with Brian in a stuffy room somewhere along the Winter Palace's corridors. He lights a cig. A nicotine one.

Dear friends,
in 2007, the band Placebo visited the Czech Republic on their MEDS tour. From this event, we have an edited video from the concert on YT and also an interview that Brian provided to the Czech media.
Enjoy today the translation of this interview as well as the concert memory of the band's dark times before drummer Steve Hewitt had to leave the band after long disagreements.

๐Ÿ”ธ๐ŸŽถ You can see the edited recording from this show here, the first 10 minutes is the performance of the Finnish supporting band ManBoy:
https://bit.ly/3oXfSov

In the end, you can see a bit of the interview that Brian gave right before the concert. Unfortunately, the entire record is not available.

The British trio Placebo stopped in Brno on tour with their new album Meds on Tuesday. Concertgoers could see that singer Brian Molko (34) is no longer a make-up being of indefinite gender.

BM: "We are definitely not music for the party and I have this impression for quite a while. I want to make more serious music.
The topics on the last two records, in my opinion, had their depth. It is not easy to talk about human emotions, emotional violence, identity issues or the feeling that you have not found your place in the world, but it is precisely these aspects of human existence that interest me.
I think Placebo has always had a strong flavor of melancholy, I call it happily sad music. Things that make you cry, but at the same time you are happy that you are alive and you can feel something like that at all. A large part of our fans have grown up with our music. At the same time, we see very young people in the front row who were about five years old when we started. I'm glad that those who loved our debut when it came out are still with us. But I'm also glad that guys in their thirties, by which I mean us, have something to say to fifteen-year-olds. However, I try my best not to think about it - I would start consciously trying to do what should go naturally to a person."

Hi, dear soulmates, do you remember last Wednesday and post about Xavior Roid?
Today, we move to the times when, alongside the Placebo guys, we saw on stage a strong personality of a musician who then continued to successfully develop his music career.

In the 80's and 90's, he played in the bands The Blue Airplanes and Strangelove.
In the late 1990s, he was a live player in the band SUEDE, so in early 2000 he replaced keyboardist Neil Codling and became a full member of Suede. He remained there until their break-up in 2003.

⭐ In January 2006, Lee was recruited for Placebo's live line-up and played with them on their Meds world tour which finished in September 2007. He played guitar and keyboards on the album Live At La Cigale.⭐

Furthermore, his artistic career is very extensive, I would mention mainly original music for ground-breaking documentary series Alone in the Wild in September 2009 and also original music to Hawking, a film about the life of scientist Stephen Hawking directed by Stephen Finnigan released in September 2013.

Alex Lee has been lucky enough to have enjoyed 17 years of playing guitar for a living. The many band’s he’s played for include Strange Love, Suede and now Placebo. I caught up with him on tour with Placebo at London’s Wembley Arena.

"Well, my name’s Alex Lee and I’ve been playing guitar full time now for about 17 years. I left school and started playing in bands straight away and I’m still doing it now! I played in bands at school, was about 15 when I did my first gig and then within six months of leaving school I was asked to join a Bristol band called Blue Airoplanes. They needed a new guitar player to go on tour supporting a band called The Darling Birds who had a top 40 hit at the time so it was great! That went really well and they asked me to stay and pretty soon after we ended up signing a major deal. It snowballed from there really and things started happening really quickly for the band. There was just a big transition at that point from being on a indie label to being on a major and having enough money to go on tour properly and pay everyone a modest wage."

"After that I played with a band called Strange Love who were all friends of mine from Bristol. We put that band together after I left the Airoplanes. Strange Love then went on to support Suede and that’s when they needed someone new to play guitar. They knew me already as I’d spent quite a long time touring with them whilst playing with Strange Love. So really it’s all about meeting people and realising you’re on a similar wavelength as people."..../.../

"Well, i’m replacing the keyboard player who was playing on the last tour so it was a Keyboard player that they were originally looking for. The fact that I could play guitar was obviously appealing to them as there are a lot of songs on the new album that are guitar based. It also frees Brian and Stef up to do other things if they want. Brian can now put the guitar down for certain songs live and go off and not have to worry about that which can make for more of a visual thing. Then I can free Stef up sometimes so he can give me the meat and potato parts and he can go and do some of the more interesting parts."

"With this tour we did quite a lot of rehearsing, we managed to rehearse for a month which was a rare luxury. With the Suede thing I didn’t get any rehearsal at all, they just sent me a cassette and had a listen on the way the airport and scribbled a few notes down when I got there!! But with Placebo we had a months rehearsal which involved a lot of programming as it was all new equipment we were using. Learning the songs was the easy part!" .../.../

"This tour is slightly different for me (the Placebo tour), because I’m using laptops on stage which is a first for me, so I’m completely in the digital domain now. I’m using a system called ‘Guitar Rig’ for the guitars, so every sound is programmed before hand, then saved and you can tweak and save at each show if you need to. So I go from the guitar, to a sound card, to the laptop and then out into a Marshall power amp and speaker. I wanted there to be some form of a valve and speaker in there somewhere! The reason we’ve done this is because both Brian and Stef have very classic rock setups; Brian plays through a Fender twin, Stef through a Marshall. So we thought it would give the sound a different texture. You have to get used to the new technology quite quickly, although I did have to put in the hours when everyone else was in the pub, I was sitting down shouting at computers!! Its still an education to me but we’re a year into this tour and its still working fine so touch wood it’ll work tonight!!!"

Dear friends, today I have Brian's interview from Toronto, Canada 2007 for you, which is full of very interesting information.
You will learn what Placebo song has become more popular among American fans and why.
And also - why the United States ordered the censorship of the MEDS album.
To make your joy of the evening complete, I share the video of the song mentioned in the article below with you.

๐Ÿ“Œ Of Meds and Men: An Interview with Placebo's Brian Molko
Written By: Graham Silnicki

๐Ÿ”ธBefore the fall of 2006, most North Americans with a passing interest in music knew Placebo as that androgynous band with a couple hit singles from the late '90s ("Pure Morning" and "Every You Every Me," both from 1998's Without You I'm Nothing). They've had something of a cult following here, but most of their popularity has been concentrated in other parts of the world, particularly Europe. But then, as has happened to so many bands, The O.C. brought them into the mainstream spotlight; their cover of Kate Bush's "๐‘๐ฎ๐ง๐ง๐ข๐ง๐  ๐”๐ฉ ๐“๐ก๐š๐ญ ๐‡๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ" appeared twice in the show's fourth season premiere.
Though the song was originally released in 2003 on a bonus disc with the album Sleeping With Ghosts, the band started including it in their set while touring the UK in early 2006 and eventually released it as a single in October.

๐’†," says Placebo's frontman, Brian Molko. "There was The O.C. effect, coupled with the fact that when we were last touring, when we started touring this record, Meds, so many people came up to ask and asked where they could get a hold of the song."

๐Ÿ”ธPlacebo is currently in their second year of touring behind Meds, the band's most recent studio album. They're in Toronto for a concert at the Kool Haus, and I'm sitting with Molko in a small, oddly decorated club somewhere off the complex's main room. /.../

๐Ÿ”ธMolko's looks are much more restrained than the svelte, feminine image that made him something of a poster boy for modern glam almost a decade ago. He's wearing a navy blue button-up shirt with small white polka dots, tight blue jeans, and Converse sneakers (he'll change into dressier black shoes for tonight's show).
His dark hair is cut short and boyish, and at 34, a coat of makeup isn't entirely hiding the touch of age in his face. He chain-smokes Camel Lights and talks softly with a refined British accent. When his band-mates – bassist Stefan Olsdal and drummer Steve Hewitt – walk by, heading to another interview, he turns to look at them, drawing on his cigarette, and says, "๐‘ป๐’‰๐’†๐’“๐’† ๐’ˆ๐’ ๐’Ž๐’š ๐’‰๐’–๐’”๐’ƒ๐’‚๐’๐’…๐’”."

๐Ÿ”ธWhile Meds (their fifth studio effort) came out in most of the world in March 2006, it wasn't released in North America until January 2007.
Molko says that he doesn't mind the delay, since "๐’•๐’‰๐’† ๐’”๐’‰๐’๐’˜ ๐’…
But he wasn't happy with all aspects of the album's re-release. Listeners on this side of the Atlantic were treated to a couple bonus tracks ("Running Up That Hill," plus original track "UNEEDMEMORETHANINEEDU"), but the song "๐ˆ๐ง ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐‚๐จ๐ฅ๐ ๐‹๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ญ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐Œ๐จ๐ซ๐ง๐ข๐ง๐ " was left off the North American version. Though the situation confused many fans, it was actually Molko who forced the band's management and their U.S. label, Virgin Records, to remove the track.

๐Ÿ”ธThe rest of Meds, however, survived the re-release. The album isn't much of a departure for the band in terms of material (sex, drugs, etc.) and sound (synthy, menacing, occasionally brash). Meds also keeps with the band's seeming penchant for collaborations (between the stage and the studio, they've teamed up with the likes of David Bowie and Robert Smith in the past); both Alison Mosshart of The Kills and Michael Stipe of R.E.M. have guest spots on the record.

๐Ÿ”ธMolko says that the title track was "๐’„๐’“๐’š๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ ๐’๐’–๐’• ๐’‡๐’๐’“ ๐’‚๐’๐’๐’•๐’‰๐’†๐’“ ๐’—๐’๐’Š๐’„๐’† – ๐’‚ ๐’ˆ๐’Š๐’“๐’." He knew Mosshart through her bandmate, Jamie Hince, with whom he'd been a friend since the two attended university together in the early '90s.

๐Ÿ”ธWhile the decision to include Mosshart was partly whim, Stipe's guest spot was integral. Molko says that "๐๐ซ๐จ๐ค๐ž๐ง ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ฆ๐ข๐ฌ๐ž," the song on which Stipe appears, was written as a duet and wouldn't have gone on the record if the right guest weren't found. The band's known Stipe since 1998, when they appeared in Velvet Goldmine, a film he produced. But the idea to feature him on the track didn't come until a chance run-in at a Paris hotel.

PLACEBO INTERVIEW – BRAVO 2007

Dear soulmates,
What about another translation of an older Russian ๐€๐‘๐“๐ˆ๐‚๐‹๐„ ? This one was published in ๐‘ฉ๐’“๐’‚๐’—๐’ magazine in April 2007.
Until that time, Placebo already played in Russia several times and got their devoted fanbase but probably, were still a bit less known as, for instance, in France. The article is written in kind of introductory style using – intentionally, of course – the hottest and most provocative topics to draw attention of the new fans.
I hope it’s going to be a nice read for you.
Big thanks to Anastasiya Loginova for the magazine scans!

They are insane. No, really! They confess to things that most people would be surely silent about. They don’t hesitate to publicly declare that they don’t adhere to a traditional sexual orientation (Brian Molko is bisexual, bassist Stefan Olsdal is interested in boys). They openly say that some of their songs are inspired by a crazy lifestyle - for example, Special K from the Black Market Music album is dedicated to ketamine. Brian Molko admitted that "heroin is the only drug in the world that I haven’t tried yet." Hair stands on end! But Placebo can be excused for all of that and even more. Because in music, they are gods!

Bursts of electronic sound, pulsating bass, bouncy guitar sound: Placebo's style cannot be copied. All over the world, they are perceived not as an English but European band: an extra point for them since the arrogant British people have already set everyone on edge. Placebo's music can be sad, harsh, explosive - but it’s never boring or non-melodic. That was admitted by such titans of rock as The Cure and David Bowie, who willingly record duets with Brian and his band. The directors and film producers agree with that too: the song Every You Every Me became a real gem of the soundtrack of the movie Cruel Intentions, and Pure Morning is featured in the cult teen film The Chumscrubber. Recently, an ‘unholy trinity’ has been honored to get their Kate Bush cover Running Up That Hill included into the fourth season of the famous American series The O.C. And their single Infra-Red from the Meds album released in March [2006] reached the top positions in the world charts. Brian promises to release the next album in two or three years. He even came up with the title already but of course isn’t going to say anything to anyone.

Stefan Olsdal dreams of playing with ABBA and Sonic Youth: “It would be cool if we did a concert together and ABBA were the headliners,” he laughs. Also, all Placebo members joined the Global Cool charity, an anti-global warming organization. “If we’re able to do something positive, we do so,” says Olsdal. At the end of May, Placebo are coming to play in Moscow. This is the best thing they can do for their Russian fans.

I know when we first started the tour the set was completely differentAnd we were quite, had a lot of bravado and you know, thought we could just waltz on in our French designer shirts and kind of play our particular brand of European melancholia, and we realized pretty damn quickly that Linkin Park and My Chem. fans, at 5 o'clock in the after noon, don't wish to be wooed. They want to be slapped across the face. So we had to change things around and find a bunch of songs that did exactly that. So we are show casing the more sort of punk side of our repertoire.“

And then there's 'Pure Morning' which was like our biggest hit about ten years ago in the U.S. Then there's stuff from the new album, 'Taste in Men' which we kind of feel is our most Linkin Park-esque song. 'Every Me' which is well known in the U.S., it was on the Cruel Intentions thing. 'Running Up That Hill' which was a big hit digitally thanks to The O.C., went down like a lead balloon. So, it went down pretty damn quickly and as a single here. So we're not even playing the single here. That's fine. We're here to raise awareness about the band and not market a particular single. This is the end of the world tour for us. It's become about exposure in the U.S. Fair enough.“

In this abridged version of Stefan's confession, you will learn, for example, whether his homosexuality affects his music, what the fateful week of his life was, and what Stefan thinks of love, monogamy, and infidelity.
Enjoy it, my dears, and then come to share your impressions.

Love, Death, Drugs, Rock, Sex, Suicide, God and ABBA. Yes, we asked about and covered all the essentials! Not only did Placebo bassist Stefan Olsdal genuinely answer everything we dared throw his way, but he surprised us with some of the most personal information we’ve ever received, especially from a band of Placebo’s caliber!
In our 25-minute interview, the enchanting Olsdal openly spoke (with that gorgeous UK accent!) about what it means to truly hit rock bottom and suffer for your art, the MOST addictive drug he’s ever experienced and how Queens of the Stone Age gave him an inferiority complex. From a subway stop in London to present day, Olsdal allowed us, and now you, a unique look into the med-hazed journey of Placebo.

“Can you hear when listening to Placebo that there’s GAY people in the band?” Olsdal, wearing a white shirt, tight black pants and black sunglasses, rhetorically and sarcastically asked us when the topic of being a homosexual and a rock-star came into play. /.../

“There were times where our lifestyles, yes, were, or could have done with a bit of toning down,” Olsdal explained. “Our lifestyles and our sexualities and our images have been written about a lot.” /.../

“Both me and Brian [Molko, lead vocals/guitar] have experienced homophobic attacks, both physical and verbal,” Olsdal said. “And I guess being in a band is kind of a license to do and look and sound like whatever you want to be because you have absolute freedom in EVERYTHING. We used that and embraced that quite a lot, especially in the early days - the way that we dressed. A lot of people mistaked Brian for a girl for example…”

We are interrupted by the sound of a bicycle bell and Olsdal turned his head and laughed while saying, “Speak of the devil!” in the direction of Molko waving to Olsdal. Olsdal turned back to us and joked, “HAH! His little gay wave on his little gay bike!”

We all laughed and then Olsdal continued, quickly taking the topic of homosexuality far from a joking matter.

“The three of us felt like outsiders when we were kids, for different reasons,” he said. “I guess for me it was because I was gay. But it gave me more time to sit and think more and become more tolerant and understanding and it gave me more time to listen to music. But does [being gay] mean I’m going to go out and make gay disco records? Not really, you know? It’s like when Billy Cogan shaved his head - did that affect his way of performing or writing music?”

Olsdal then cocked his head to the right as if trying to remember something and then said, “Uhh… does being gay affect my music?” unearthing our original question over 5 minutes later. “I guess my record collection is bit more “gay” than others, you know? I’m a huge ABBA fan, but that’s mostly because I’m Swedish. But I mean, everyone loves ABBA!”

His favorite ABBA song is “The Winner Takes It All.” As the story goes, after keyboardist Benny Andersson and vocalist Anni-Frid Lyngstad divorced in 1981, Andersson wrote that song for Lyngstad to sing.

“She’s basically singing, “I was left, I was dumped, and YOU, the winner takes it all!” Olsdal exclaimed, still dumbfounded by the story decades later. “That’s pretty hardcore. THAT is suffering for art!” /.../

After leaving Luxembourg at the age of 16, Olsdal went back and lived in Sweden for a couple of years before making his home in London (where he presently resides) in 1993.
Although both students at the same school (the American International School of Luxembourg) together, Olsdal explained that they had never had a friendship and the story of Placebo’s beginning was both unexpected and somewhat cosmically intervened.

“It was one of those days where you just think that the hand of fate had something to do with the whole thing because it was just too much,” he recounted. “That week that I met Brian, I also met my partner. In one week my whole life kind of changed!” /.../

So after everything is said and done, what is Olsdal’s drug of choice?
“There have been a lot of songs written about it: LOVE,” he answered. “You know that feeling you have for someone else. Whatever happens inside you chemically when you feel that sort of affection or affinity to someone. I think that’s an amazing feeling. And if you’re sober while feeling it, that makes it even more intense and satisfying.”

“It’s like Nature Boy,” Olsdal said about the greatest lesson he’s learned from love. “What’s the lyric?…“The greatest thing you’ll ever learn, is just to love and be loved in return.” I guess I found out the value of [love] when I didn’t have it. And the person I was with actually took me back after I dumped him. And THEN I realized that I loved him.”

The love Olsdal repeatedly mentions throughout the interview comes from a 13-year relationship with his current partner. And although in an obvious monogamist partnership, Olsdal has his own definition of what that entails.

“We are not made to be monogamists really,” he said matter-of-factly. “It doesn’t matter how good a sex life you have with your partner. After about 7 years, you know that person inside and out – every inch of their body. And of course other flesh is going to be attractive. I believe that SEX IS A DRUG. You get your fix and you’re done. It doesn’t have anything to do with love whatsoever. To be unfaithful does not mean that you don’t love your partner.”
