𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒔𝒉 singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist 𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒂 𝑮𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒂𝒏 𝑻𝒐𝒑𝒍𝒆𝒚-𝑩𝒊𝒓𝒅 was born on May 7, 1975 in 𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒍. She began her career as the female vocalist on the debut album of the famous trip hop singer 𝑻𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒌𝒚 titled "𝑴𝒂𝒙𝒊𝒏𝒒𝒖𝒂𝒚𝒆" (1995) with whom she has continued collaborating over the years. In 2003, 𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒂 released "𝑸𝒖𝒊𝒙𝒐𝒕𝒊𝒄", her debut solo album, and was so critically acclaimed that she was even nominated for the prestigious 𝑴𝒆𝒓𝒄𝒖𝒓𝒚 𝑷𝒓𝒊𝒛𝒆. 𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒂 subsequently recorded the solo albums: "𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑩𝒍𝒖𝒆 𝑮𝒐𝒅" (2008), "𝑺𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆 𝑺𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒆" (2010) and "𝑭𝒐𝒓𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝑰 𝑾𝒂𝒊𝒕", released last year. Besides, she has collaborated with artists and bands such as 𝑫𝒊𝒑𝒍𝒐, 𝑮𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒂𝒛, 𝑴𝒂𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝑨𝒕𝒕𝒂𝒄𝒌, 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒅𝒊𝒈𝒚, the late 𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒌 𝑳𝒂𝒏𝒆𝒈𝒂𝒏, 𝑾𝒂𝒓𝒑𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒕 and 𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒏 𝑴𝒐𝒍𝒌𝒐, among others.

On October 22 and 23, 2008 at 𝑳𝒂 𝑪𝒊𝒕𝒆́ 𝒅𝒆 𝒍𝒂 𝑴𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒒𝒖𝒆 in 𝑷𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒔, 𝑭𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆, two concerts dedicated to the iconic concept album "𝑳'𝑯𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒊𝒓𝒆 𝒅𝒆 𝑴𝒆𝒍𝒐𝒅𝒚 𝑵𝒆𝒍𝒔𝒐𝒏" by 𝑭𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒉 singer 𝑺𝒆𝒓𝒈𝒆 𝑮𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒈 took place.

This show, conceived, arranged and orchestrated by 𝑱𝒆𝒂𝒏-𝑪𝒍𝒂𝒖𝒅𝒆 𝑽𝒂𝒏𝒏𝒊𝒆𝒓, who was the arranger and co-composer of this album released in 1971, had already been presented two years earlier with great success in London on October 21, 2006. The first part of the show was dedicated to 𝑽𝒂𝒏𝒏𝒊𝒆𝒓's debut album called "𝑳'𝑬𝒏𝒇𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝑨𝒔𝒔𝒂𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒏 𝒅𝒆𝒔 𝑴𝒐𝒖𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒔" (1972) and then all the tracks from 𝑮𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒈's album were performed. The concerts in the 𝑭𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒉 capital featured special guests such as 𝑴𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒆𝒖 𝑨𝒎𝒂𝒍𝒓𝒊𝒄, 𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒈𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒆 𝑭𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒆, 𝑫𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒆𝒍 𝑫𝒂𝒓𝒄, 𝑪𝒍𝒐𝒕𝒊𝒍𝒅𝒆 𝑯𝒆𝒔𝒎𝒆, 𝑨𝒍𝒂𝒊𝒏 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒎𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒕, 𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒂 𝑻𝒐𝒑𝒍𝒆𝒚-𝑩𝒊𝒓𝒅 and 𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒏 𝑴𝒐𝒍𝒌𝒐 (𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆𝒃𝒐) who sang together "𝑩𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒂𝒅𝒆 𝒅𝒆 𝑴𝒆𝒍𝒐𝒅𝒚 𝑵𝒆𝒍𝒔𝒐𝒏". For me, it was really the quality of Mr. Vannier's orchestration that I find astonishing. I think it was really a sonic polaroid of a time in the 60s when the sound was like that, with its melancholic strings and wow I think it had a lot of... Yes he's a provocateur but he's also someone who I think was not very comfortable in his skin. I'm also interested in trying to understand that because I find myself there a little bit.

◾ 𝙀𝙢𝙢𝙖: I was wondering, especially in relation to Monsieur Serge, when you were a young teenager in Luxembourg, how did you discover Gainsbourg ?
🔹 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧: My favourite period was the Melody Nelson period, Cabbage-Head Man. It was when he started to be inspired by American and English music and the Beatles and things like that. And that it became a little bit more rock.

◾ 𝙀𝙢𝙢𝙖: And that's why you chose that song that you sing on the Gainsbourg revisited album and tonight with us ?
🔹 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧: Well it's particularly because of the Melody album and really it's an album that was very important to me at one point in my life, that I listened to on repeat every day and I was obsessed with it, so it was natural for me to do the Ballade de Melody.

◾ 𝙀𝙢𝙢𝙖: On the album Monsieur Gainsbourg Revisited you also put your voice on Requiem For A Jerk.
🔹 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧: Requiem Pour Un Con yeah.

◾ 𝙀𝙢𝙢𝙖: I think you stole that one.
🔹 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧: Well, I did it without being asked and then I sent it. I was given the instrumental and I recorded it and I sent it to Mr Kosten from Faultline and said "Come on, use me !

◾ 𝙀𝙢𝙢𝙖: So you're a lot on this album Monsieur Gainsbourg Revisited.
🔹 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧: What's interesting about Requiem pour un con, Requiem for a jerk, is that I did a duet with Françoise Hardy without ever meeting her. That's modern times, that's technology, modern technology and I think that's really cool.
