Exactly 12 years ago, on September 7, 2009, the single of the song
"๐๐ก๐ ๐๐๐ฏ๐๐ซ-๐๐ง๐๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ก๐ฒ", which we know from the album Battle For The Sun, was released.
This single is unique in that it was released as a vinyl picture disc in only 500 pieces. It was recorded at Metalworks Studios in Toronto, produced by David Bottrill and mixed by David Bascombe.
It is also necessary to say that this single was a few days later, on September 13, 2009, also provided for download, but only in UK.
There are three more versions of this single, but these two are important for our celebration today.
In addition to the "The Never Ending Why" song, the vinyl picture disc also contains a cover of the song "Hardly Wait", originally by PJ Harvey.
The single released for download also includes a live version of "The Never-Ending Why" - Live At The 02 Shepherd Bush Empire, and live versions of Happy You're Gone and Speak in Tongues from the same concert.

I would really like to hold this vinyl in my hands one day - the picture is really beautiful and tender in a strange way, and the lyrics of the song are written on it, as you can see in our edited photo.
And what can be said about the song?
... Men and their eternal questions ... a typical way of male thinking ... you answer one question and another 5 appear ... it just never ends ... do you agree with me?
So that's what this song is about, one of the rare pieces written by Stefan. When writing it, he was inspired by the novel "Les particules Elรฉmentaires" by Michel Houellebecq, which, according to Stefan, is not exactly the most optimistic novel.
You can understand the meaning of the song from the Placebo quotes below.
And at the end of this anniversary, I share a few important links with you:
First, the official video for the song made by Champagne Valentine agency
and then also excellent live performances of this song. You can choose which one you like best ๐๐.

So, dear soulmates, do any of you have this treasure?
And what do you say about The Never-Ending Why?
Do you also develop more and more intricate networks of questions in your mind and drown in the feeling that you will never know all the answers?
But isn't that why the world is more beautiful and life more interesting, full of undiscovered surprises?

“It is somewhat inspired by the book "Les Particules Elรฉmentaires" by Michel Houellebecq, not the the most optimistic book in the world though (laughs). My lyrics were inspired by it at first, then Brian helped me to give them a meaning and give them a touch of hope. Basically, yes there is shit, but you can choose to go ahead and live your life anyway. You have the choice.“
(STEFAN, Elegy, March / June 2009)
”It’s all the questions you’ll never find the answers for, like, for example, “why is there so much misery, on personal and world level?” You can spend a lot of time wondering, looking for the answers you will never find. In the end, it is better to accept misery, like happiness, as a part of life. Maybe the one can’t exist without the other.”
(BRIAN, Vimagazino, July 29th 2009)
“The idea is that you can't change the world in which we live. Even in a democracy you can't do anything, there will be shit around you, time goes on and you can't do anything, nothing can stop it. So it's about finding a glimmer of hope in all this mess, finding the bright side of things.“
(STEFAN, Elegy, March/June 2009)
"It's kind of Eastern in its philososphy. It's about the questions that will never be answered. Anyone who has an interest in the meaning of life will come up against a brick wall, but you must accept the fact that there will be no answers and try and get the best out of now."
(BRIAN, xfm.co.uk, July 14th 2009)
”Stefan brought it to the table originally, then we just Placebo-ised it. It's a great tune and we all enjoy playing it live. From beginning to end it's just this choppy rock song.”
