Dear friends, this introduction concerns an interview given by ๐’๐“๐„๐…๐€๐ ๐Ž๐‹๐’๐ƒ๐€๐‹ for ๐ƒ๐Ž๐”๐๐‹๐„ ๐‰ ๐‘๐š๐๐ข๐จ during the Australian part of The 20th Anniversary Tour.
Thanks to that, we will remember today what the case was moving in Australia at that time.

๐Ÿ“ŒWhile in Australia for their recent 20 year anniversary tour, Placebo bassist Stefan Olsdal spoke to Double J's Myf Warhurst about the band's career, and why he's standing up for equal rights.
Music and politics have always been intertwined with Placebo, particularly around the themes of gender and sexuality.
When asked how the band felt about playing the Margaret Court Arena, a venue whose namesake is openly against same sex marriage, Oldsal reflected on how that fits into the band's stance on LGBTQI rights.
“We play a lot of countries and we wouldn't play in these countries if we agreed with the government's policies,” he said. “A lot of places haven't moved as far as I would like in terms of justice and equality. Australia has come a long way but I wish it would come further. I think humankind will look back and think, ‘Why didn't we treat everyone equally? Why didn't we have the same rights?'”
When asked if he will be getting out his rainbow bass for the Australian shows Olsdal confirmed that this was his preferred form of protest, despite the accompanying feeling of being targeted.
“It's my weapon,” he said. “That's the one that I wield around the world because there's work to be done everywhere.
I stand up there and sometimes think I'm going to see a red dot circled around my chest but it's something that I'm willing to stand up for so I stick my neck out, but it's worth it.”

Very strong closing words, what do you think? So what happened at the Margaret Court Arena affair then?
This multi-purpose sports and entertainment venue in Melbourne, Australia is named after one of the world's most famous tennis players, ๐Œ๐š๐ซ๐ ๐š๐ซ๐ž๐ญ ๐‚๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ญ.
However, in the name of Christianity, this woman is fighting against the human rights of LGBT communities and especially against the adoption of a law for same-sex marriage.
According to many celebrities, Margaret Court has damaged Australia's name as an open and respectful country. Her statements were often really over the edge:
⭐ For example her 1990 comment about Martina Navratilova - “a great player but I’d like someone at the top who the younger players can look up to. It’s very sad for children to be exposed to homosexuality. Martina is a nice person. Her life has just gone astray” and her comment for a Christian radio station - „transgenderism was the work of the devil and compared a global plot to promote equal sexual rights to Hitler“.

Many well-known bands of Brian's and Stefan's friends, such as Sigur Rรณs and LCD Soundsystem, then stood up to protest against the famous tennis player's statements during the 2017 concert season, and Placebo, of course, watched the situation closely.

⭐ "To come out and basically demonise children because of the way they're born - which is essentially what this woman has done - it's pretty outrageous, and I think it's offensive. I can't really tolerate it, to be honest", Olsdal says.
"I know perfectly well that we're playing a venue with her name to it - and she was an amazing tennis player, there's no taking away from that - but I'm still thinking about exactly what we're going to do about it." /.../
"I'm still working on the best way to send out our response to playing at that venue in Melbourne."

๐Ÿ”ธ⭐๐Ÿ”ธ

And how did it turn out in the end?
Stefan solved this situation in exactly his way:
⭐ "I need your participation for this, I need something from you guys," said Olsdal, holding his bass above his head. "I'm gonna say a name, and I want you guys to say 'fork you'. Can you guys do that for me?" Soon enough, once Olsdal uttered the name 'Margaret Court', the entire crowd joined in chanting 'fork you'."

๐Ÿ”ธ You can watch Stefan's very touching video with 'Fork you' here and you will definitely notice Brian's admiring applause for Stefan:

Dear soulmates, how do you like Stefan's performance at this concert?
The end of this post will be dedicated to Stefan's words from the introductory interview and for your beautiful evening, I will share a few amazing videos from Melbourne.

⭐Stefan Olsdal: “I still remember the first few days Brian and I jammed and it just felt right,” he said. “That's what carried me through to today.
He is my musical husband, I spend more time with him than friends and family. It's a relationship that works and it's based on shared values and morals and the music that we both completely agree on.”⭐

At the end of February to the beginning of March 2014, Placebo did an Australian leg of their ๐‘ณ๐’๐’–๐’… ๐‘ณ๐’Š๐’Œ๐’† ๐‘ณ๐’๐’—๐’† ๐’•๐’๐’–๐’“ while they played seven shows, most of which were part of ๐’๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐๐ฐ๐š๐ฏ๐ž festival that usually takes place in different Australian cities. On February 24th, in-between festival dates, Placebo performed at the beautiful ๐„๐ง๐ฆ๐จ๐ซ๐ž ๐“๐ก๐ž๐š๐ญ๐ซ๐ž.

Placebo were last in town for Soundwave 2010 and now here they are again with another sideshow, this time celebrating Soundwave 2014.

As an act whom frontman Brian Molko himself has labelled “for outsiders, by outsiders,” Placebo are certainly embraced by a wide cross-section, and this cross-appeal makes them all the more interesting. Their glam/alternative/industrial rock still sounds cool and now in their 20th year, Placebo are amongst the elder statesmen of rock. Rightly so after tonight’s marathon performance.

The sold-out Enmore was already heaving, but when Placebo took the stage at bang on 9pm it became a rock ‘n’ roll rollercoaster ride as they delivered an almost two-hour set. The band knew what the fans wanted and played to their own strengths, while dropping in a few surprises as well. Molko and partner-in-crime Stefan Olsdal led the charge, laying out a stack of hits like Song To Say Goodbye, Every You Every Me, and the epic Twenty Years.

Since their last tour, Placebo have dropped a new album, the sadly overlooked Loud Like Love, and the boys decided to play through a good chunk of it. It was great to see the new tracks receive such a strong response, with Rob The Bank, Loud Like Love, and the thrashy Scene Of The Crime served with aplomb. Exit Wound and Purify were set highlights, as was the cracking Too Many Friends.

Afterwards, a blistering encore ensued, the slow-building Teenage Angst, followed by a fine cover of Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill. The final one-two punch of Post Blue and Infra-Red capped off a tight, professional performance. What Placebo showed tonight was that their brand is as strong as ever and perhaps more relevant in the current trend of indie bands trying too hard to be cool.

Witness a Placebo gig and you’ll learn how it’s done. Unlike so many of their Brit rock contemporaries, who in recent years seem to have disappeared up their own arse, Placebo still deliver an honest and uncompromising performance. Bravo, lads.

The Enmore Theatre is a theatre and entertainment venue in Sydney, Australia. It was built in 1908 and first opened in 1912 as a photo-play theatre. It was run by a well-known theatre family at the time, the Szarka Brothers.
Today's Enmore Theatre is the longest running live theatre in Sydney, hosting concerts, comedians, plays and all forms of performance. It plays a distinctive role in the social and cultural life of the city and occupies a unique position in Sydney’s theatrical history. It has hosted many international bands including a performance by Bob Dylan.
The Enmore Theatre was designed by architects, Kaberry & Chard. Around the period that it was built, the architects in Australia discussed the influence of the Classical and Gothic styles. Enmore is known for its focus on the goth subculture in Sydney. The evolution of the building over a century has resulted in an architectural fabric that includes elements of Art nouveau, Edwardian, Art Moderne and various Art Deco styles. It is predominantly modern, with aspects of late 19th century and early 20th century architecture.
The Enmore Theatre is classified by the National Trust and is listed in the Historic Buildings Register of the Australian Institute of Architects. The Enmore Theatre is one of two surviving art deco theatres in Sydney and the only one in its full original condition.
