🔹 The 1999 Eurockéennes session was Placebo's second appearance at this highly regarded festival in France. Their first appearance was in 1997. In 1999, the band was not yet a headliner. This was achieved in 2004 with the worldwide success of 𝑆𝑙𝑒𝑝𝑝𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑊𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝐺ℎ𝑜𝑠𝑡𝑠.

𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒏 : Festivals, they're like a big picnic. But they're also like walking a tightrope in the way that anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. But you also spend a lot of time in a field beforehand. there's a certain amount of less pressure in one way but then there's more pressure as well because there's more people and you don't have a soundcheck, etc. So it's not that you don't take it as seriously, that if something goes wrong, that it's not the end of the world, that you're on a bill with x amount of people and that things will probably go wrong for them too. From the intro with Scared on Girls, the tone is set: no frills, just brilliant songs executed with no hesitation. The faster tempo is the only thing that differentiates these live versions from their studio counterparts, but it makes a big difference. The first six tracks follow one another without a break, the time to hit a few larsens as an introduction, Allergic, or to listen to the constant "Briaaann-neuh !" of the swooning girls after each track. The climax of this first third of the concert is reached with the classic double effect 'Kill Kool' from Placebo (the album), 36 degrees / Bionic, killer songs that have not aged at all. After a groovy break with a well-chosen B-side, Drowing by Numbers, and the poignant Without You I'm Nothing, the concert starts again, Placebo picking from the most efficient songs of their repertoire Every You Every Me, Slackerbitch. Not yet inflicting his pseudo-demagogic speeches on his audience, Brian Molko is relatively sober, with a magnificent: "I gave myself a microphone shot and now I'm bleeding for you." After a less obvious track, Lady of the Flowers, as a breather, Placebo ends in the most beautiful way with a very well served Nancy Boy by Stefan Olsdal's bass and my favourite track, Pure Morning, a nice summary of each band member's know-how. Finally, it ends with an apocalyptic live version of Evil Dildo, the hidden instrumental track from Without You I'm Nothing. These nine deafening minutes prove that Placebo's desire to play was furious in their early days. And so much the better if the audience in Belfort could finish their concert on this concentrated rock, it will have been the final touch to an almost ideal setlist.Five years after their debut, Placebo is still not jaded, and you can feel the rage in the chorus of "You Don't Care About Us" as well as the true sincerity in the interpretation of "Teenage Angst". A band that was able to crystallize teenage feelings so well was bound to disappear quickly or to lose its passionate urgency over time.

Since 1989, the festival has brought together nearly 2 813 000 festival-goers from all walks of life, of all ages and of all nationalities in almost 2000 concerts ! Located on the Malsaucy peninsula, a few kilometers from Belfort in a protected natural area, festival-goers not only enjoy a wide variety of concerts, but also benefit from an exceptional natural setting: hills and water.
