Today is the 🎉𝟏𝟎𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐍𝐍𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐀𝐑𝐘🎉 of ⭐"𝐖𝐄𝐒𝐓 𝐄𝐍𝐃 𝐆𝐈𝐑𝐋𝐒"⭐, 𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒏 𝑴𝒐𝒍𝒌𝒐's collaboration with 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒆𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆. It is a dark cover version of the 𝟖𝟎's classic original by the 𝑷𝒆𝒕 𝑺𝒉𝒐𝒑 𝑩𝒐𝒚𝒔, which was released as the last track of the album "𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒆𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆: 𝑶𝒓𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒍 𝑽𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝑽.𝟎𝟏" through 𝑺𝒆𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒂 𝑹𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒓𝒅𝒔 on July 2, 2012.

𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒆𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆 is a project formed by renowned producer and engineer 𝑹𝒐𝒃 𝑲𝒊𝒓𝒘𝒂𝒏 who has worked with artists such as 𝑷𝑱 𝑯𝒂𝒓𝒗𝒆𝒚, 𝑮𝒍𝒂𝒔𝒗𝒆𝒈𝒂𝒔 and 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑯𝒐𝒓𝒓𝒐𝒓𝒔; 𝑭𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂 𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒆, who has arranged strings, recorded and toured with 𝑩𝒐𝒚 𝑮𝒆𝒐𝒓𝒈𝒆, 𝑺𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒚 𝑹𝒆𝒅, 𝑷𝒂𝒕𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒌 𝑾𝒐𝒍𝒇 and 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆𝒃𝒐 just to name a few; and 𝑲𝒆𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝑪𝒖𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒏, the owner and founder of 𝑺𝒆𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒂 𝑹𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒓𝒅𝒔, an independent label created in 1990, which launched various artists from the 𝑰𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒉 music scene like 𝑬𝒅𝒘𝒊𝒏 𝑪𝒐𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒔, 𝑹𝒊𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒅 𝑯𝒂𝒘𝒍𝒆𝒚, 𝑫𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒅𝒚 among others.

"𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒆𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆: 𝑶𝒓𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒍 𝑽𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝑽.𝟎𝟏" is a farewell album as it marked the closing of the 𝑺𝒆𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒂 label. According to 𝑲𝒆𝒊𝒕𝒉 himself, the concept behind the album was simple and self-indulgent because as a last release, he decided to record an album of covers of his favorite songs (mostly 80's songs) by artists he loved and admired. "𝑰𝒕 𝒇𝒆𝒆𝒍𝒔 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒂 𝒈𝒐𝒐𝒅 '𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒍' 𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒓𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒑𝒖𝒕 𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒐𝒏 𝒎𝒚 𝒍𝒂𝒃𝒆𝒍," said 𝑲𝒆𝒊𝒕𝒉.

The album was produced by 𝑹𝒐𝒃 𝑲𝒊𝒓𝒘𝒂𝒏 and 𝑭𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂 𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒆 did the string arrangements for all the songs. As there were several artists involved and not enough resources, the album took a long time to record but finally saw the light of day in 2012.

🎙️"'𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒆𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆' is essentially a covers album: twelve well-known songs arranged for string quartet and featuring guest vocalists. Actually I don’t play violin on it at all! I conducted the quartet in the studio. But what is interesting about this album is that it showcases the rhythmic and emotional power of a string quartet, and also demonstrates that a song can be totally transformed when you change the instrumentation. The quartet IS the band. It is dark and filmic in places. I’m particularly pleased with “𝑾𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝑬𝒏𝒅 𝑮𝒊𝒓𝒍𝒔” (𝑷𝒆𝒕 𝑺𝒉𝒐𝒑 𝑩𝒐𝒚𝒔) sung by 𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒏 𝑴𝒐𝒍𝒌𝒐, and “𝑪𝒍𝒐𝒔𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝑴𝒆” (𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑪𝒖𝒓𝒆) sung by 𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒌 𝑳𝒂𝒏𝒆𝒈𝒂𝒏. Other guests include 𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒉𝒂 𝑾𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒘𝒓𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕, 𝑱𝒐𝒂𝒏 𝑨𝒔 𝑷𝒐𝒍𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝑾𝒐𝒎𝒂𝒏, 𝑺𝒕𝒆𝒑𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒆 𝑫𝒐𝒔𝒆𝒏, 𝑷𝒂𝒕𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒌 𝑾𝒐𝒍𝒇, 𝑬𝒅 𝑯𝒂𝒓𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒕".

⭐ "𝐖𝐄𝐒𝐓 𝐄𝐍𝐃 𝐆𝐈𝐑𝐋𝐒" 𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐆 🎶⭐
“𝑾𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝑬𝒏𝒅 𝑮𝒊𝒓𝒍𝒔” is a synth pop song with hip hop influences composed and performed by the 𝑬𝒏𝒈𝒍𝒊𝒔𝒉 duo 𝑷𝒆𝒕 𝑺𝒉𝒐𝒑 𝑩𝒐𝒚𝒔. The lyrics were inspired by 𝑻.𝑺. 𝑬𝒍𝒊𝒐𝒕's poem "𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑾𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒆 𝑳𝒂𝒏𝒅" (1922), which is one of the most important poems in 20th century 𝑬𝒏𝒈𝒍𝒊𝒔𝒉 literature. It was released twice as a single, first in April 1984 and then on their debut album "𝑷𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒆" in October 1985. It reached number one in the 𝑼𝑲 and the 𝑼𝑺 in 1986, since then has been considered one of the 𝑷𝒆𝒕 𝑺𝒉𝒐𝒑 𝑩𝒐𝒚𝒔' biggest hits and has won awards for "𝑩𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝑺𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒍𝒆" at the 𝑩𝑹𝑰𝑻 𝑨𝒘𝒂𝒓𝒅𝒔 as well as "𝑩𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝑯𝒊𝒕" at the 𝑰𝒗𝒐𝒓 𝑵𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒐 𝑨𝒘𝒂𝒓𝒅𝒔 both in 1987 and "𝑺𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑫𝒆𝒄𝒂𝒅𝒆 𝟏𝟗𝟖𝟓-𝟏𝟗𝟗𝟒" by the 𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒔𝒉 𝑨𝒄𝒂𝒅𝒆𝒎𝒚 𝒐𝒇 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒑𝒐𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑺𝒐𝒏𝒈𝒘𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒔 in 2005.

Fiona Brice, who we all know as Placebo's studio musician and touring member for almost one decade, is part of The Separate, a quartet with contemporary vocalists.

“West End Girls” was released on the album “Orchestral Variations V.01” nine years ago today, on 2nd of July 2012.
The record includes cover versions of 12 songs from the 1980s. It was produced by Rob Kirwan and all tracks were arranged by Fiona.
Apart from Brian with ”West End Girls” you can find covers of The Cure (“Close to me”), U2 (“Stories for boys”), The Smiths (“The night has opened my eyes”), Pixies (“Gigantic”) or The Buggles (“Video killed the radio star”).
“The night has opened my eyes” is sung by Joan as Police Woman who later performed “Protect me from what I want” with Placebo at their MTV Unplugged concert in 2015.

"West End Girls" is a song by the English pop duo Pet Shop Boys. The lyrics deal with class and the pressures of inner-city life and were partly inspired by T. S. Eliot's poem “The Waste Land”.
"West End Girls" was released twice as a single. The first version was published in 1984 and became a club hit in the United States and some European countries. After Pet Shop Boys had signed with EMI the song was re-recorded, the new version was released in 1985 and reached number one in the UK and the United States in 1986.
