for a long time now I have had a need to share with you my passion for the kind of songs that stand out in some way from Placebo's catalog.
Although they sound gentle, they are musically very expressive and often have brutally honest lyrics full of pain, which is a definite Placebo signature.
Therefore, these songs are often the best way for many of us to get out of feelings of sadness or, on the contrary, let these feelings control us.
And what I personally find most beautiful in Placebo's creation - slow versions of Placebo fast rock burners.

Musically, the demo is very rough energetic, with the incredible Brian's voice... I get goosebumps every time I hear that song... but it's far from the lullaby that was subsequently reworked for the debut album.

Another interesting thing about the demo version is the text. Maybe you know, maybe you don't, but the only thing the official recording has in common with the demo version is the line ▪️"Hang on to your IQ..."▪️.

🎶The lyrics of the demo, which, among other things, also mention incest, are as brutal and depressing as its musical accompaniment. Moreover - part of this lyric was used in the demo version of ▪️"𝐅𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐡 𝐌𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐜"▪️ a year later.🎶

Stefan wrote about this song that he himself really likes the musical aspect that accompanies Brian's lyrics:

It has a toy piano in there - and it's my best playing as well. The thing with a three-piece is it forces you to get into your instrument a lot more. It's a very triangular thing, and Brian's guitar playing and my bass playing tend to work hand in hand. I'm not a big fan of the big, fat E-string. I find that it can be a bit boring. There's much more you can do with the bass; there are some really nice tonal qualities to it. I'm approaching bass now to take it somewhere new; I'm playing it more like a guitar in someways."

Its melody is as tender as a love song, while its lyrics tell us the exact opposite. As you can read Brian's comment below, he wrote this text about someone who has very low self-esteem:

He's at a point of such low self-esteem that that's the most self-deprecating thing that he can say about himself at that point. `Not only am I an idiot, but I've got a small dick, and I just feel so disgusted with myself.' which I guess, I have certainly felt at certain points in my life... I know that I have a reputation."

But my thoughts go back to drug addiction... Drugs are something that first allows you to discover parts of your inner universe that you might never have otherwise discovered. Of course, it's a two-sided coin, and sooner or later that path will lead you to hell, where you can lose yourself.

🔹💥What Brian is saying with this song is - just appreciate what makes you different from others. Cherish the tool you have in your head and do everything you can to make sure your tool is not small and useless.💥🔹
