Welcome here again dear Soulmates, hope you had a joyful and serene Easter day, sourrounded by your loved ones.

Do you remember my post of last February 13th in which I introduced you to the official Placebo tribute band EffettoPlacebo?

You may also remember that, after years of playing gigs around Italy and Europe, the band took a long break in 2012 which was temporarily interrupted only in 2016 to record their version of Running Up That Hill for the Placebo20 anniversary tour.

But our post about the band, as well as the imminent release of the much-anticipated Placebo8, awakened the voices of the followers who missed them.

So, on March 16th, Kiki (Simone), the lead singer of the band, wrote on his social channels:

What happens on March 22nd?

I'm always impressed by the number of messages I get every time EPs pop up in some posts of ours, the affection that has remained around our band is priceless, thank you so much for that, it's undeserved, we haven't done live shows since 2012.

As you read in the post which Placebo Anyway kindly dedicated to us a few weeks ago, we have never officially disbanded, we just retired from live shows, but we continue to produce things from time to time, and this time, as well as for the 2016 production in homage to Placebo20, we decided to pay homage to a double anniversary: firstly the release of Never Let Me Go, and our 19th birthday (just nineteen...no need to explain it right?) and then the EPs, that were born in March 2003, so we can consider March 22nd 2022 an 'evocative date'.

On the 22nd we're going to produce a song that will be released in the following weeks, after the release of Never Let Me Go, with a video, and as a free download on our official website.

The next question I am always asked since 10 years is..."are you going to play live shows?" The answer is simply we don't know. Currently the remaining line-up is me and 'Cipo' Davide Albettino, who has been my Stef for 10 years.

I would have liked to have the original band in the studio, we have been in touch with all the members, but there are currently no conditions for this to happen, maybe in the future.

In the studio, therefore, in addition to myself and Cipo, there will be Agostino Taverna on bass, who I thank very much for his helpfulness, and the master Andrea De Marchi who, as in Battle Foror The Sun in 2011, in addition to producing the song, will play drums with us.

I can't wait to work with Andrea, after all he has always been the extra member of any of my projects, from Alternathiva to Seven, to Killtherabbit, he is the one who has always put my music on "tape" so, 6 years later, it couldn't be otherwise.

What are we going to play? Easily guessed from the picture, Surrounded by Spies. Why?

Because in this period more than ever, with all that is happening (pandemics, inflation, wars and so on) I think there is no doubt that we are surrounded by assholes.

Follow me on IG on the 22nd, there will be a lot of stories directly from the studio. Maybe we'll never play live again but, as a matter of fact, as long as there are Placebo there will be EffettoPlacebo.

With love.๐Ÿ’“

And so, right on time, on March 22nd Kiki posted his update:
March 22nd 2022

EffettoPlacebo at Virtual Studio: Davide Albettino, Agostino Taverna and Andrea De Marchi (and Kiki, of course).

It was exactly the day we expected, after all it has been "only" 6 years since the last time.

Are we satisfied with the result? Really so much, it came out a fantastic production and we can't wait to let you hear it.

And yes, we started talking about live shows actually, I confess.

See you in 15 days, give or take a day.

See you at the bitter end

Thus, on April 8th, EffettoPlacebo's cover of Sourrounded By Spies was released, punctually accompanied by a message from Kiki, aka Simone Baldassin (lead singer of the band) on his social profiles, along with a photo in which he had enclosed some of the messages he got from those who had already listened to their cover song (it's the same you can see on this post):

I know, I know, our last live show was on November 3rd 2012, that's almost 10 years ago, but we wanted to be there in 2016 for Placebo20, recording a cover of Running Up That Hill, and we wanted to be there in 2022 for this new album.

Our tribute this time is a cover of Sourrounded By Spies, a spectacular track that we hope we've done justice to, but we'll let you judge the result.

We chose this date because the number 8 represents cosmic balance, the wheel of the centre of the universe, an infinite wheel, the beginning or the end depending on your perspective. For us, this wheel represents the end of the circle in this adventure called EffettoPlacebo, which will turn 20 in March 2023. But, as we know, when one circle is closed, another one opens, so the end is not always something negative.

I was torn between Surrounded By Spies and Happy Birthday In The Sky, so I don't exclude to record the second one in the next months or maybe, who knows, in 2023, just to celebrate our twentieth anniversary.

To all of you a good life.

Thanks for watching and see you at the bitter end.

So what about ending this Easter Day listening to EffettoPlacebo's version of Sourrounded By Spies, dear soulmates?
