🎶🎸 𝙋𝙇𝘼𝘾𝙀𝘽𝙊 𝙇𝙄𝙑𝙀 𝘼𝙏 𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝘽𝙇𝘼𝘾𝙆 𝙎𝙀𝙎𝙎𝙄𝙊𝙉𝙎 𝟭𝟵𝟵𝟳 🎸🎶

Among 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆𝒃𝒐's oldies but goldies performances, this afternoon I'll talk to you about 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑩𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒌 𝑺𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 from 1997.

𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑩𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒌 𝑺𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 were performances of live music broadcast by French radio station 𝑭𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓. The name is a pun based on the name of their creator, 𝑩𝒆𝒓𝒏𝒂𝒓𝒅 𝑳𝒆𝒏𝒐𝒊𝒓, which translates literally as "𝑩𝒆𝒓𝒏𝒂𝒓𝒅 𝒃𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒌". 𝑩𝒆𝒓𝒏𝒂𝒓𝒅 𝑳𝒆𝒏𝒐𝒊𝒓 is a famous ex radio DJ, who discovered a lot of talents in English, American and French rock/pop music. In 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑩𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒌 𝑺𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 he invited groups that are for the most part relative beginners but who often go on to become references in the world of indie rock. Unlike the 𝑩𝑩𝑪’𝒔 "𝑷𝒆𝒆𝒍 𝑺𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔", the bands played live, recorded in one take in front of an audience of 200 people and featured on the show "𝑪'𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝑳𝒆𝒏𝒐𝒊𝒓"(𝑻𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒊𝒔 𝑳𝒆𝒏𝒐𝒊𝒓). The first performance was held in 1992 and the last one took place in June 2011. These sessions were released on a CD format for mostly local radio DJs in Europe by 𝑺𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒆 𝑹𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒓𝒅𝒔. The releases are marked as "promotional" and are in a limited series of 2500.

Among the artists who performed at 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑩𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒌 𝑺𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 were:
𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑪𝒖𝒓𝒆, 𝑷𝑱 𝑯𝒂𝒓𝒗𝒆𝒚, 𝑺𝒎𝒂𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑷𝒖𝒎𝒑𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒔, 𝑵𝒊𝒄𝒌 𝑪𝒂𝒗𝒆, 𝑹𝒂𝒅𝒊𝒐𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒅, 𝑷𝒂𝒗𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕, 𝑻𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒐𝒊𝒔𝒆, 𝑳𝒊𝒏𝒐𝒍𝒆𝒖𝒎, even the 𝑩𝒐𝒐 𝑹𝒂𝒅𝒍𝒆𝒚𝒔 - one of the bands where 𝑺𝒕𝒆𝒗𝒆 𝑯𝒆𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒕 played the drums - and many others. 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆𝒃𝒐 played here twice: in 1997 and 1998.

𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧: It's weird. I don't know if we really believe in destiny. I don't know if there's a power that brought us together but I think life is luck. It's a bit a game of luck. We have good karma or we have bad karma. I think at that point we both really needed good karma. We both came out of situations that were a little difficult or a little bit boring, not really very exciting. I think we got what we deserve. The way Placebo was created when we got together is a serie of happy accidents. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's fate or whatever.

𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧: Totally. It was funny because the reason we started making music together was because that weekend I was doing a concert at the pub with him.

𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧: He was in another band. He couldn't be in our band. It's strange that now he's playing with us. It's like a circle. In English we say 'what goes around, comes round'. It's a little bit like that.

𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧: Yeah, we did a song. A new song that will be on the new album, which is called Burger Queen. It's a pun on Burger King and it also means Luxembourger queen. The queer from Luxembourg. It is a very sad story. The character in this song is in the wrong place at the wrong time. It's one of the worst things to be in the wrong place. He is homosexual, he is goth, he's on heroin and he lives in Luxembourg. These are four things you can have in your life ... No. I'm not saying that being homosexual is bad. It's the worst place where you can be all of those things. It makes us cry to listen to this song and play it.

𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧: No, we are becoming mini celebrities. I am very honest about the places where I have spent a lot of time. Even the town where my mother was born where I spent time in Scotland.
