Here are the little information we could find about Matt Lunn,  'the guy from Harrogate' (North Yorkshire) before he joined Placebo in 2015:


HARROGATE MUSICIAN PLAYS FOR PLACEBO IN FRONT OF THOUSANDS
An ex-Harrogate musician found himself at the heart of the rock 'n roll world in front of thousands of fans as drummer in Placebo.

Matt Lunn, who started off in local bands in Harrogate as a teenager, joined the famous alt-rock band in 2015. On the band’s recent 20th anniversary arena tour, Placebo's lead singer Brian Molko has been introducing Lunn on stage as a “local lad from Yorkshire”. In fact, he’s from Harrogate and appeared in print several times in the Harrogate Advertiser as a teenager in local outfits. But since those long-off days in the early Noughties, the talented Matt has built up a reputation as a brilliant drummer as a member of York-based band Colour of Fire (…).

Before joining Placebo (...), Matt also played with Shed Seven’s Rick Witter in Rick Witter and The Dukes who also included Stuart Fletcher of Seahorses.

ABOUT COLOUR OF FIRE
Colour of Fire were a rock band from York, UK. They were signed to Riverman Music, PIAS in Europe, and King Records in Japan.
They formed in 2002, taking their name from a Boards Of Canada song and had early UK-only single releases Decisions Decisions and Cut It both just sneaked into the UK top 100.
Their 2004 debut album, Pearl Necklace, was highly praised both in UK music press and online, and helped to expand the group's international fanbase. Despite supporting acts such as Idlewild, Biffy Clyro, Silverchair and Placebo and playing festivals in Japan and Europe in 2003-2004, the quartet's album did not perform as well as they had hoped for.

INTRODUCING NEW TOURING DRUMMER, MATT LUNN
Placebo will embark on their biggest UK and Irish tour in recent years, starting on 25th February with a sold out show at the Olympia in Dublin and ending with two nights at Hammersmith Apollo in London on the 24th and 25th March.
The tour will allow fans to catch a glimpse of the band’s new line up, with old friend, and former Colour of Fire drummer Matt Lunn, joining the fold as the new touring drummer.

Just two days ago Never Let Me Go was released, and many of us wondered who would be the drummer playing live with Placebo on tour throughout 2022.

Luckily Matt thought to reassure us by coming out of a long social media hibernation: he will not just be on tour with Placebo throughout 2022, but he will take his new British Drum Co Legend Series kit along for the ride!

British Drum Co. welcomed Matt in its family of British Drum Co. with some nice words in the last days.

I’ll be using it throughout 2022 on the new Placebo campaign".

♦️ 𝑳𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒍𝒆 𝑺𝒖𝒏𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒆 decided to stand on his own two feet with the aim of starting his own band. ✨

He was then replaced by 𝑀𝑎𝑡𝑡 𝐿𝑢𝑛𝑛.

♦️ I would like to share with you today a recent article (at least the part where Placebo is discussed) where Steve explains the reasons for his departure.

📖 🔹With great success must come great experience and during his time in Placebo, Forrest admits, “𝐼𝑡 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑚𝑜𝑟𝑒 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑖𝑡 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑙𝑒𝑠𝑠 𝑙𝑖𝑘𝑒 𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑦𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝐼 𝑒𝑥𝑝𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑒𝑑 – 𝑖𝑡 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑐𝑟𝑎𝑧𝑦 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑖𝑡 𝑤𝑎𝑠𝑛’𝑡 𝑎𝑡 𝑎𝑙𝑙 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑤𝑎𝑦 𝐼 𝑝𝑖𝑐𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒𝑑 𝑖𝑡.” However, during this time, his mental health and sense of purpose took a downfall despite the masses of success that the British alternative band were facing. 𝐼 𝑟𝑒𝑚𝑒𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟 𝑐ℎ𝑢𝑛𝑘𝑠 𝑏𝑢𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒’𝑠 𝑠𝑜 𝑚𝑢𝑐ℎ 𝐼 𝑑𝑜𝑛’𝑡 𝑟𝑒𝑚𝑒𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟 𝑠𝑜 𝑖𝑡’𝑠 𝑛𝑜𝑡 𝑎𝑠 𝑔𝑙𝑎𝑚𝑜𝑟𝑜𝑢𝑠 𝑎𝑠 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑘 𝑖𝑡’𝑠 𝑔𝑜𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑡𝑜 𝑏𝑒.” In February 2015, Forrest left Placebo to concentrate on his career as well as fronting the band Planes at the time which he had recently begun. “𝑀𝑦 𝐷𝑎𝑑 𝑖𝑠 𝑎 𝑝𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑐ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝑎𝑛𝑑 ℎ𝑒 𝑢𝑠𝑒𝑑 𝑡𝑜 𝑠𝑎𝑦 ‘𝐷𝑜𝑛’𝑡 𝑔𝑖𝑣𝑒 𝑢𝑝 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑠𝑜𝑢𝑙 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑎𝑙𝑙 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑔𝑜𝑙𝑑 𝑖𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑙𝑑’,” describes Forrest on this shattering decision, “𝑤ℎ𝑒𝑛 𝐼 𝑙𝑒𝑓𝑡 𝑖𝑡 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 ℎ𝑎𝑟𝑑𝑒𝑠𝑡 𝑑𝑒𝑐𝑖𝑠𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝐼’𝑣𝑒 𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟 ℎ𝑎𝑑 𝑡𝑜 𝑚𝑎𝑘𝑒 𝑏𝑢𝑡 𝑛𝑜𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔’𝑠 𝑏𝑙𝑎𝑐𝑘 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑤ℎ𝑖𝑡𝑒.” According to Forrest, the mixture of personalities surrounding him in Placebo would cause difficult working issues that would result in furious cases of anger and anxiety for the former drummer. “𝑇ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑎 𝑙𝑜𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑝𝑠𝑦𝑐ℎ𝑜𝑙𝑜𝑔𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑦 𝑚𝑒𝑠𝑠𝑒𝑑 𝑚𝑒 𝑢𝑝 – 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑦 𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑑 𝑜𝑓 𝑝𝑢𝑡 𝑚𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑟𝑜𝑢𝑔ℎ 𝑎 𝑏𝑎𝑝𝑡𝑖𝑠𝑚 𝑜𝑓 𝑓𝑖𝑟𝑒 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑦 𝑤𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑦 ℎ𝑎𝑟𝑑 𝑜𝑛 𝑚𝑒 𝑏𝑢𝑡 𝐼 𝑤𝑎𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑑 𝑡𝑜 𝑔𝑖𝑔 𝑠𝑜 𝑏𝑎𝑑 𝑠𝑜 𝐼 𝑤𝑎𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑑 𝑡𝑜 𝑑𝑜 𝑎𝑛𝑦𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔,” Forrest explains how the band’s arguments would soon take their toll on him, “𝐼 𝑑𝑖𝑑𝑛’𝑡 𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑠𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑒𝑓𝑓𝑒𝑐𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑤𝑎𝑠 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑜𝑛 𝑚𝑒.”


🔹Even with the tough departure from Placebo and his life in the spotlight, he admits that he does sometimes fondly look back on memories with the boys acknowledging: “𝐼 𝑐𝑎𝑛 𝑠𝑒𝑒 𝑚𝑦 𝑚𝑖𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑘𝑒𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑛𝑜𝑏𝑜𝑑𝑦’𝑠 𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑓𝑒𝑐𝑡…𝐼 𝑐𝑜𝑢𝑙𝑑𝑛’𝑡 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑝𝑟𝑒𝑑𝑖𝑐𝑡𝑒𝑑 𝑎𝑙𝑙 𝑡ℎ𝑒 ℎ𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑡𝑎𝑐ℎ𝑒 𝑓𝑟𝑜𝑚 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 – 𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑦𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑤𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝑤𝑟𝑜𝑛𝑔. 🔸 BIRTHDAY: ROBERT SCHULTZBERG 🔸

Today we celebrate the birthday of Placebo's first drummer Klas Robert Schultzberg, he was born on January 3rd 1975.

Stefan and Robert know each other from Sweden where they played in the same school band. Independently of each other they both moved to London later.
When Brian and Stefan started Placebo they needed a drummer. Stefan suggested to ask Robert Schultzberg, and he joined the band in September 1994. He played on Placebo's first studio demo in April 1995, which garnered much attention and finally led to a deal with Virgin Records.
Robert also did the drums on the band's early singles and on their self-titled debut album. Unfortunately he had a strained relationship with Brian and due to their problems with each other he left the band in October 1996.

📢 “My best memories include the initial sense of disbelief when things started taking off. It happened so quickly: We recorded our first demo in April 95 (seven months after forming) and were picked up by our managers in June '95. We hadn’t even recorded our debut album and were invited by Bowie to do four dates with him in Italy in February '96. All he had heard was our demo, which he loved. So we basically went from playing small places in the UK, to playing arenas, literally overnight. I guess there was a sense of having a world of opportunity at our feet. A lot of people, notably our managers and the record company, seemed determined to make Placebo successful. However, this was all very stressful at the same time because the relationship between Brian and me was never easy and it led to there being a tense atmosphere a lot of the time. We were both proud and opinionated and seemed to lock horns over most issues. I always knew my time in the band was going to be limited.“

📢 “My favourite song has always been Swallow. The first version of this Brian and Stefan recorded on acid when I was in Germany for a month in September ’94 visiting an ex-girlfriend of mine. When I heard it, I thought it was amazing: it really did something for me. The vocal sounding genuinely fucked up repeated over that eery bass motif and cool harmonics on the guitar (there were no drums on it). I believe Brian played bass on that, and Stefan the guitar. We never played it live because we could never really replicate the vibe of the original recording, even though I’m happy with the album version.
Out of the faster tracks I suppose Bruise Pristine was my favourite to play, along with Come Home.“

📢 “I was fired. I left initially in September 95, but just around then we were offered to record our first single (Bruise Pristine) so I felt I needed to at least have accomplished one release with the band. Upon rejoining (after having left for two weeks) things really started taking off. Unfortunately, we had a big argument in August 1996 just before going to record our first TV show (the White Room). Brian said he couldn’t stand to play with me anymore and I said more or less, that the band was not solely his to decide what to do with. Incredibly, I volunteered to get therapy in order to be able to deal with the ‘situation’ (him) better to which he replied he “did not have time for me to sort my head out”, clearly taking no responsibility for his own behaviour/actions. I suggested (and we ‘agreed’) that we carry on playing together until December 96 and complete the promotion of the album and see if things could improve by then.
In September 96 we had our first US tour for two weeks and the first date was in New York. The atmosphere was super tense and I could tell something was up as Brian was no longer making the slightest effort to be agreeable. I asked Stefan what was going on and if I would be doing the German tour (after the US tour) just before going on stage, and he just said ‘no, you’re not’. I did two more shows with the band in Paris after the US tour at the manager’s request, the last one being a performance on “Nulle Part Aillleurs”. Brian has said that he was “tired of being the focus of Robert’s rages against the world” and quite frankly, I was tired of being his! If you’re wondering where Stefan stood in all of this, he was tired of being piggy in the middle.“

📢 “Lomax was a great band to play in as we had a lot of fun, but it couldn’t last as Paul Epworth’s (singer/guitarist) production career took off with him producing Bloc Party, Futureheads, the Rakes, etc. I’m now playing in a new band with Jon the bass player from Lomax and a guitarist called Mike who used to be in Hope of the States, though we are still nameless. The stuff we’re doing is quite experimental with the use of loops and effect pedals to create soundscapes whilst we thrash about over the top. We are making steady progress and plan to be playing live soon. I’m also playing in an electro-rock project called Cristine (ndPlacebocity : MySpace Cristine) with a French friend of mine. We’ve got two singles being released through new label Mute Irregulars (subsidiary of Mute records). The sound is a Velvetsey/Jesus and Mary chain vibe over an electro backdrop.“

Six years ago, on the 2nd of February 2015, drummer 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐯𝐞 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 left Placebo.
The band released the following statement concerning Steve's departure:
“The split is very amicable and Steve was keen to pursue his own musical ambitions, and has been writing and recording his own material over the last few years. Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal would like to thank Steve for all his work with the band and wish him all the very best in his future career."

I know that a lot of you still miss Steve and so I want to share an interview to remind us of our Mr. Sunshine.

𝗜𝗧 𝗜𝗦 𝗦𝗔𝗙𝗘 𝗧𝗢 𝗦𝗔𝗬 𝗬𝗢𝗨'𝗥𝗘 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗕𝗔𝗕𝗟𝗬 𝗕𝗘𝗦𝗧 𝗞𝗡𝗢𝗪𝗡 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗞 𝗔𝗦 𝗔 𝗗𝗥𝗨𝗠𝗠𝗘𝗥 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗖𝗘𝗕𝗢. 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗪𝗔𝗦 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗜𝗢𝗨𝗦 𝗠𝗨𝗦𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗟 𝗕𝗔𝗖𝗞𝗚𝗥𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗗?
“Music for me began at a very early age. By the time I was 8 years old, I was already obsessed with the drums, and listening to all of my parent’s music and the drummers in those bands was all very exciting for me. Only thing is, we couldn’t afford a drum kit. Money was scarce in those days, and my parents were struggling to even keep on the lights at times, so spending $500-$1,000 on a drum kit for your kid wasn’t really the most practical thing for them to do. However, one day when I was 11, my father took me out to help him sell off a dirt bike we had. After which, he drove me straight to the music shop and bought me my very first drum kit! It wasn’t much, just a little Yamaha stackable travel kit, but it did the trick! Eventually I would move on to own all sorts of different drum kits over the years, and play with many bands as well. My first band was a Nirvana tribute act when I was 13… haha.“

𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗗𝗜𝗗 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗕𝗘𝗚𝗜𝗡 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗖𝗔𝗥𝗘𝗘𝗥 𝗪𝗜𝗧𝗛 𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗖𝗘𝗕𝗢?
“My career with Placebo started with my career in Evaline. Evaline was a group consisting of myself, and four of my mates out of Turlock, CA. We started in my garage in the summer of 2001, and from there went on to sign a record contract with Maverick records, soon to sell us to Warner Bros. records. At this time, we were doing a number of festival runs and support slots. One of the bands we supported was Placebo, and we bonded with the guys instantly. A few months later, me and Evaline parted ways, and whilst out on tour with my friends “We Are The Fury” (now Jeremy & The Harlequins), my mother calls me up and tells me Placebo was without drummer. So next thing I knew I was on the phone with Brian Molko chatting about musical influences, the band, life, love, etc.. We really had a strong bond straight out the gate me and Brian; I always felt really close to him, especially in those early days… Anyways, four months later on January 12th, 2008 at 21 years of age, I landed in London, and for 7 great years I would see, hear, taste, smell, and experience those most amazing things this world had to offer.“

“Extremely hard decision to make. I loved that band and still do… It’s a hard one to talk about because you never really know what you can and cannot say about a person or a situation, but what I can say is that my time with Placebo was amazing. I loved every member of our awesome crew, I loved the hard working cats in our management, and most of all I truly loved my bandmates. Miscommunication, and egos got in the way of a lot in the end, and when that happens, it’s very hard to keep it going. We had taken our personal journey as far as it could go, and as hard as it was for me to go, I feel it was the best move in the long run for not only myself, but for my brothers as well.“

𝗔𝗧 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗔𝗚𝗘 𝗗𝗜𝗗 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗡 𝗧𝗢 𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗬 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗗𝗥𝗨𝗠𝗦?
“I was 9 or 10 when I received my very first drum. It was just a snare drum with an old pair of marching sticks. I used to throw a towel over the drum so as to dampen the sound and play along to the radio. I was immediately hooked.“

𝗦𝗢 𝗬𝗢𝗨'𝗥𝗘 𝗖𝗨𝗥𝗥𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗟𝗬 𝗟𝗜𝗩𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗜𝗡 𝗟𝗔, 𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗘𝗫𝗖𝗜𝗧𝗘𝗗 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗪𝗜𝗙𝗘 𝗫𝗔𝗥𝗔𝗛 𝗫𝗔𝗩𝗜𝗘𝗥 𝗧𝗢 𝗕𝗘 𝗝𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗬𝗢𝗨?
“Very much so, yes. This past year in Brighton has been the toughest year that I can possibly remember having. For both myself and Xa, life has been seemingly cruel, and calloused towards us in many ways. But in a funny way, I believe it all to be what was necessary for me and her to change our lives so drastically! Sitting here now from my bedroom in my mate Brady Leffler’s East Hollywood flat, I’m reminiscing about all that’s taken place, and all that is about to take place, and I’m excited. Me and Xarah have many plans out here, and it feels so good to be working and creating again. Most of all though, I do miss my teammate. She’s my best friend, and it’s very hard to function properly without her. She’s my rock, and even though it’s only a week and a half until I get to see her again, it feels like an eternity! Haha but that’s how these things go I guess.“

I know it’s probably not very rock and roll of me, but I like the idea of having a little one kicking about. Kids are the best, and both me and Xarah think we’d make pretty cool parents. In the meantime, I’m gonna keep making records, and doing what I love. I ADORE performing, and will do anything I can to make sure that I do it for as long as my body allows me…“

Steve Forrest leaves Placebo - New drummer Matt Lunn

This morning the whole Placebo world fans and friends were really surprised, sad and also shocked by the latest news in a band member changing.

Here is what on the official Placebo page is written:

"STEVE FORREST LEAVES PLACEBO TO PURSUE PERSONAL MUSICAL AMBITIONS"

Steve Forrest, who joined Placebo in 2008 and has toured with them over the last two album campaigns ‘Battle For The Sun’ and ‘Loud Like Love’, has decided to leave the band.


The split is very amicable and Steve was keen to pursue his own musical ambitions, and has been writing and recording his own material over the last few years.

Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal would like to thank Steve for all his work with the band and wish him all the very best in his future career.

Taking on the role as Placebo’s new touring drummer for the UK tour is old friend Matt Lunn, former Colour of Fire drummer, who in fact supported Placebo on various tours back in 2004.

Placebo embark on their biggest regional UK tour in years, commencing in February, where you can catch the new line up."
