Today we have an opportunity to talk about another Brian Molko’s collaboration, this time, with an American singer-songwriter and pianist Kristeen Young. On this day 18 years ago, on May 22nd, 2004, their duet 𝐍𝐎 𝐎𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐆𝐎𝐃 was released as an opening track on Young’s fourth studio album 𝐗. Brian and Kristeen recorded 𝐍𝐎 𝐎𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐆𝐎𝐃 in December 2003.

🔹All the songs on 𝐗 are written by Kristeen Young and based on her reflections on the Ten Commandments.
🔹The album was produced and mixed by 𝑻𝒐𝒏𝒚 𝑽𝒊𝒔𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒊 (who worked on many 𝑫𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒅 𝑩𝒐𝒘𝒊𝒆’s records and also engineered Placebo’s single 𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐈'𝐦 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 featuring Bowie) and engineered by Mario J. McNulty at Studio B, Looking Glass Studios, New York.


⭐𝐊𝐑𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐄𝐍 𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐆 was born in 1975 in St. Louis, Missouri. Young began playing piano as a child. Besides Brian Molko, she sang with several artists including 𝑫𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒅 𝑩𝒐𝒘𝒊𝒆, 𝑴𝒐𝒓𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒔𝒆𝒚, 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑫𝒂𝒎𝒏𝒆𝒅, recorded with producer 𝑻𝒐𝒏𝒚 𝑽𝒊𝒔𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒊, drummer 𝑫𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝑮𝒓𝒐𝒉𝒍, and guitarist 𝑵𝒊𝒄𝒌 𝒁𝒊𝒏𝒏𝒆𝒓.
▪️In 1997, she released her debut album 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐬 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐇𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐥𝐥 𝐁𝐨𝐲 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐝. In the early 2000s, she began working with 𝑻𝒐𝒏𝒚 𝑽𝒊𝒔𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒊 on 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐬, which featured a duet with 𝑫𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒅 𝑩𝒐𝒘𝒊𝒆, 𝐒𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐫.
▪️Besides her own work, Kristeen Young has also been featured on other artists' records. She appeared on 𝑫𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒅 𝑩𝒐𝒘𝒊𝒆's 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧 in 2002. She also provided the operatic vocals in 𝑴𝒐𝒓𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒔𝒆𝒚's single 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭'𝐬 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐰 𝐔𝐩 in 2008.
▪️In May 2014, Young released her seventh album, 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐊𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐟𝐭, which was recorded with 𝑫𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝑮𝒓𝒐𝒉𝒍 who played drums and guitar.
▪️In 2019, Young released her tenth and latest studio album, 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐮𝐛𝐒𝐞𝐭, which she wrote, arranged, produced, and mixed herself. The album has received critical praise.
▪️In March 2022, Kristeen released her new single 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐌𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐈𝐬 𝐆𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐆𝐞𝐭 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐈𝐧 𝐀𝐥𝐥 𝐊𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐞 that will be featured on the album 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐲 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐩 coming on June 24, 2022.

"She has always been a DIY artist in the most classic sense: standing alone, outside, and in between categories. She plays piano in a sort of bashing/dissonant manner (but melodic at times) and sings using a wide range (of notes and emotion) that veers into operatic territory.
But, the music is best described as no genre or multi-genre […].
Although a lifelong unsigned, manager-less, un-agent-ed artist, she has found support among some of the most undeniable artists of our time: David Bowie recorded a (Kristeen-written, self-released) duet with her. Kristeen toured, as opener, for several world-wide Morrissey tours (as well as singing on his #1 song, "That's How People Grow Up," and performed on Late Night with David Letterman with him.
Dave Grohl played drums on her whole self-released 2014 album and then performed with her on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. Nick Zinner (Yeah Yeah Yeahs) played guitar on her self-released 2017 album. In 2020, she received her first New York Times review (an enthusiastic write-up by legendary music critic, Jon Pareles) of a re-working of the Bowie duet."
