Most of you definitely know a brilliant interview with Brian by ๐‘ต๐’‚๐’ˆ๐’–๐’Š at the French TV show ๐“๐š๐ซ๐š๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐š in 2009. Perfect interviewer, shiny and friendly and sincere Brian, interesting conversation, fascinated audience – what more could one ask for?!๐Ÿคฉ But as you remember, there was another absolutely delightful moment when Taratata’s team surprised Brian with an image of him, 11 years old, visiting his first live rock show ever! Brian’s eyes and smile said it all – he was amazed, grateful, and touched❤️

I’ve found an exceptionally beautiful ๐€๐‘๐“๐ˆ๐‚๐‹๐„ which tells, from Nagui’s point of view, how the idea came into being, how much work – and heart, first of all! – was put into preparing this lovely surprise for Brian.

"Taratata" on France 4, "Do not forget the lyrics" and "Everyone wants to take their place" on France 2, ๐‘ต๐’‚๐’ˆ๐’–๐’Š is a "monster" host of the PAF. In charge of the show section, he pays tribute to the band Placebo who are playing this Saturday live from the Main Square Festival in Arras, on Virgin 17.

A rock band that takes its name from Latin, it starts well. When it can give a great pleasure, it's even better! In Latin, the word Placebo means “I will please”. Of course, the most widely used definition is that of medicine. Any dictionary says that placebo is an "inactive substance substituted for a drug". So, do they want to please or cure? To be or pretend? Dark or bright? Released, or almost, from their depressive demons, Brian Molko's band set out for a battle for the sun with all the authorized metaphors (new album ๐‘ฉ๐’‚๐’•๐’•๐’๐’† ๐‘ญ๐’๐’“ ๐‘ป๐’‰๐’† ๐‘บ๐’–๐’). The lyrics are all, without exception, by Brian Molko.

And the lyrics are largely autobiographical, that's why it all hinges on this man. Great for some, diva for others, who are even more so, Molko has been to Taratata several times, and I have always met an artist who respects the technicians, the public, other artists. Beyond talent, beyond music, beyond success, there is something that you necessarily feel, particularly in his eyes and his behavior - it is this form of respect and politeness. Brian Molko cultivates all possible ambiguities, and not just about his sexual tastes. Placebo has never hidden from loving show business, the limelight, glitter, flamboyance, and glamor.

And the band’s stage outfits reflect this, daring and original enough not to go unnoticed. On the other hand, Molko has a strong taste for the dark. There is a whole dark side in the words, lyrics, clothes, make-up, and some interviews. If Molko doesn’t specifically like to explain the meaning of his lyrics (always his desire to muddy the waters), he especially understands - beyond the quality of his band and his own intelligence - the importance of cultivating the mystery, to embody a charismatic leader ร  la Jagger, Bono, Cantat and Co. It goes through the look, the attitude, the ambiguity maintained, the sincere and touching expression of sensitivity and pain that everyone can relate to.

Molko loves France and seems to be happy when you see him in Paris. He learned French at 6. “I grew up with French TV. With the program Apostrophe, Les enfants du rock, French cinema, Belgian channels, French channels…" When we first met, we’ve been like everyone else to each other. It is with small details, such as Italian and Egyptian blood flowing in our veins, that we get to know each other better… It is talking about our children, showing each other’s family photos, those personal ones, that one sends to the other, that are ๐’”๐’Š๐’ˆ๐’๐’” ๐’๐’‡ ๐’˜๐’†๐’๐’„๐’๐’Ž๐’† ๐’Š๐’๐’•๐’ ๐’‰๐’Š๐’” ๐’‘๐’“๐’Š๐’—๐’‚๐’•๐’† ๐’˜๐’๐’“๐’๐’….

But all these signs of mutual trust give an even greater importance to the relationship between an artist and a Taratata host: he should not be disappointed (like all the others) but if we can reserve a pleasant surprise for him, it’s even better. So when Placebo returned to Taratata for the launch of their new album exclusively on France 4, we had to do everything to make it even better for Brian Molko. When he came back, he showed his confidence in us, and Digging into his past, an anecdote jumped out in the eyes of the team: at 11, Brian Molko attended his first concert.

This is the French group Tรฉlรฉphone from Arlon, Belgium. An excellent thought came to ๐’€๐’‚๐’๐’ who, in addition to being a friend, is a perfect librarian. He would seek, regardless of time limit or fatigue, the rare pearl that no one has ever seen! His challenge was to get his hands on an incredible image: Brian Molko, aged 11, in the audience of a Tรฉlรฉphone concert in Belgium! It seemed to be impossible: the archives in Belgium are difficult for us to reach, and finding an 11-year-old child in a concert audience is also illusory. So, of course, we said to ourselves that we were going to do basic: just find images of Tรฉlรฉphone from the time, if possible in Belgium, and we would say that Brian Molko was in the audience...

But we didn’t know our great Yann well enough! He watched, frame by frame, the whole Tรฉlรฉphone concert and noted a few shots on the audience where we could see the fans. But what did little Brian look like? Miracle, the Belgian director's camera zoomed in on the audience and caught a close-up of a teenager. In the viewing room, there was a shout: “๐‘ฐ๐’•'๐’” ๐‘ด๐’๐’๐’Œ๐’!” Then doubt set in: what if it wasn't him? The game was worth the candle, we played the excerpt with a freeze on the face of this young guy watching for Molko's reaction. ๐‘ฏ๐’Š๐’” ๐’‰๐’‚๐’‘๐’‘๐’Š๐’๐’†๐’”๐’” ๐’˜๐’‚๐’” ๐’—๐’Š๐’”๐’Š๐’ƒ๐’๐’† ๐’๐’ ๐’‰๐’Š๐’” ๐’‡๐’‚๐’„๐’†, at the height of Yann's temerity. Our immense pride.

On the Taratata set, Brian Molko became a teenage music fan again and gave us a wonderful moment of live music.

This story has several goals: to salute the merit and talent of Yann, as well as all those in the shadows who allow Taratata to be a showcase for the artists, and also tell you how fortunate we are at Taratata to receive exceptional artists who, at times, are within our reach, on a simple human dimension, far from prejudices and notoriety. This human dimension is perceptible on stage and that’s why I say: "๐‘ฎ๐’ ๐’”๐’†๐’† ๐’•๐’‰๐’† ๐’‚๐’“๐’•๐’Š๐’”๐’•๐’” ๐’๐’ ๐’”๐’•๐’‚๐’ˆ๐’†, ๐’Š๐’•'๐’” ๐’‹๐’–๐’”๐’• ๐’‰๐’‚๐’‘๐’‘๐’Š๐’๐’†๐’”๐’”!"
