PLACEBO AT MTV COCA COLA 2003
Screenshot from the video |
“It is now time for 160 lucky Coca-Cola consumers to join thousands of people in Piazza del Popolo in Rome, to live the hair-raising experience of being part of "Coca-Cola live at MTV". The night will be hosted by popular MTV Italy personalities Paola Maugeri and Enrico Silvestrin, and will feature artists from the Italian and international music scene.
The line-up includes the band that is renowned for having introduced and developed Italian hip-hop - J Ax and DJ Jad better known as Articolo 31, and Marlene Kuntz, the leading band in the alternative rock scene in Italy. Frequently referred to be a glam version of Nirvana, Brian Molko, Stefan Olsdal and Steve Hewitt, raised to fame as Placebo, will also participate.”

"This time they [people] will know, however, who exactly Placebo are, protagonists of the performance on the stage of Sanremo Festival in 2001 that literally terrified a hazy Raffaella Carrร . Catapulted then in front of an audience not suited to their style, Brian Molko's band left the stage as it did the rock stars of the past, with a completely smashed guitar. Something more pleasant, however, binds this gloomy and hedonistic band, capable to create impressive songs, to Rome, like the duet recorded with Asia Argento as a cover of "Je t'aime... moi non plus", the scandalous song by Serge Gainsbourg."

We’re gonna be playing a lot of stuff from our new album and a couple of old classics. It’s gonna be pretty rocking!
Usually it’s singles from the old albums really which is what a lot of people wanna hear. You gotta strike a good balance between the stuff you wanna play and what other people wanna hear
No, it’s more like you have some songs from the old albums that people love a lot and you hate and don’t wanna play anymore and see you disappoint a lot of people. But it’s a difficult thing, you know, you have to strike a good balance.
Not really, it feels like the album is quite experimental and quite eclectic. We decided that it was time to bring a lot of electronic and a bit of a hip-hop feeling to what we’re doing so we wanted of people kind of accept it and they have. We’re really trying to do something fresh but not turning our back to what makes us uniquely us as well which is difficult thing to do.
Thank you!

"Placebo. Exceptional. I was lucky enough to have a friend who won the tickets and I didn't miss a chance to see them live, since Rome is an hour's drive from my city. And I must say that all the waiting paid off totally, with a truly overwhelming live explosiveness. Opening was reserved for "Taste In Men", a song from a few years ago. During "The Bitter End", "This Picture", "Plasticine" and "Special K", performed at the top, everything happened. Great ballads "Special Needs" (exceptional live) and "Pure Morning", which was the closing song. Really very good, Brian is a character born to be on stage... just think that he changed guitar on every song!!! Absurd! Overall I give a nice 5 to this concert […] Ah... I forgot a detail: Brian of Placebo, after he finished Taste In Men came up with "Hello Rome, how the fuck are you???" ... ;)) Great!!!"
