Without You I'm Nothing - L'Homme Absurde (Placebo cover)

“IT WAS BORN TO BECOME A METAL SONG!“

Dear Daredevils,

I have another interpretation of WYIN for you, but it sounds quite extreme. So be warned: If you're no Black Metal fan, well... then this song will be a real challenge for you. But be brave and give it a try. And don't be fooled by the harmless beginning – the pain starts at 0:59.  ;-)

By Silke Mitteregger for Placebo Anyway

L'Homme Absurde is a relatively young Russian band, founded in 2016 by Alexey Slavin, who was already well-known as drummer in the Metal scene.
In the same year the band released their first album “Monsters“ with Alexey on the microphone.

Hmm... a change from drummer to frontman... somehow that sounds familar to me.  ;-)

Anyway, in the beginning of 2017 L'Homme Absurde started performing live and since then their fan base is growing constantly. In March 2017 they presented a cover version of WYIN. “This song perfectly fits our music. It’s so emotional and so “dark“ and I thought that it was born to become metal one day since I heard it for the first time,“ explains Alexey.

“I hope that we were able to properly convey the original feeling of the song and maybe even strengthen it in our approach. And I also hope that Brian and Stefan won't be offended by our version,“ he adds. I think this is a very lovely statement, especially when it comes from a long-haired and grim-looking metalhead who's dressed in deepest black.

Alexey told me that he was never interested in 90's alternative rock bands and that they were “a large number of never-ending Nickelbacks“ for him. But one day he heard something that sounded interesting and very different from all the “same-looking MTV-rock bands with similar vocals and music“ to him. It was “Every you Every me“ at the beginning of Cruel Intentions, and this song was the only reason for him to watch the rest of this “teenager girl oriented“ movie. “I wanted to see the final credits and find out the name of the song and the band,“ Alexey specifies.

And that's how he discovered Placebo, “one of most important rock bands from the 90’s, wich became a musical bridge from the past to modern times." In his opinion Placebo's secret lies in the use of uncommon chords and uncommon guitar tunings.

Alexey is convinced that a lot of musicians of his generation, including metal artists, are heavily influenced by Placebo. “Maybe some of them are shy about this and would never admit it. I’m not.“
Soulmates, I really enjoyed this interview. Alexey seems to be honest and some parts of his statements are quite funny. What about you, do you also like what he says?

If L'Homme Absurde hits your taste I have good news for you: The new album “Sleepless“ has just been released.

Dark greetings, Silke
