I am so glad that my lullaby series is so successful.. I'm enjoying the ride with you thanks to your feedback.
So let's continue!
I have some really tough choices for you today, I'm sure.

๐น๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐น is a track which was written and produced by Brian. The song is actually older than Placebo itself, in an interview Brian said that he wrote and recorded it in 1993.

You don't know me... And you never hold me
Like your little piece on the side
My mother told me... That you're never lonely
When you're laughing, all the time
Inside-out and outside-in
You bring eyesight to the blind
Crying, is a crime
Slowing down the metronome... Slowing down
Slowing down the metronome... Slowing down
You don't know me... And you never hold me
Like your little boy in blue
My father told me... That you're always lonely
When they're all laughing at you
Inside-out and outside-in
You bring jesus to the jew
Slowing down the metronome... Slowing down
Slowing down the metronome... Slowing down
You don't love me... And you never hold me
Like your little piece on the side
Inside-out and outside-in
You bring eyesight to the blind

...Maybe everyone around knows that the person is being cheated on by his lover... and that's why they laugh behind his back, how can he be so blind... “๐ด๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐... ๐ป๐๐๐ ๐๐๐'๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐... ๐พ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐'๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐...”
Brian's reference to religion from his early years is certainly reflected there - Jesus who brought sight to the blind, performed miracles...
Anyway, I see a reproach to parenting there - "๐๐๐ ๐ ๐๐'๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐... ๐จ๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐", “๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐... ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐”, but also in the verse "๐ช๐๐๐๐๐, ๐๐ ๐ ๐๐๐๐๐" ...
Big boys, big girls don't cry...did your parents tell you that too? Don't complain and don't cry, you're big now. It's about a wounded soul who finds comfort nowhere, not with his love, not with his loved ones.
"๐บ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐... ๐บ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ ๐๐๐..."
A metronome is a thing that makes a regular rhythmic sound, used by musicians. Maybe it's a broken heart that feels completely useless in this world...

๐This is a song whose lyrics are so difficult for me that it is quite impossible to find the right meaning and very soon I decided that it is not even necessary...
...Because listening to Brian's voice over the sound of his passionate guitar is beyond all the meanings in the world.๐
Don't you think?
Unfortunately, this song, like the previous one, was never performed live.

I will always be fascinated by the combination of human pain describing lost love with hunger for drugs and escape from reality.
The song is all the more heartbreaking if we connect the listening with the visual manifestation.

My Sweet Prince is a song about the end of two relationships that almost turned into tragedy in both cases. It's about one lover's broken heart and drug addiction - more specifically, heroin, as Brian has mentioned in many interviews.
There are many references in the song to the use of this drug („๐๐ฆ ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐๐ง๐๐๐ค๐ฃ ๐ค๐ข๐ฏ ๐ค๐ฉ๐ข๐ด๐ฆ ๐ข๐ญ๐ญ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐ฑ๐ข๐ช๐ฏ ๐ข๐ธ๐ข๐บ...“, „๐๐ฆ ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐ฎ๐บ ๐ซ๐๐ก๐ช๐๐๐ก๐ ๐ง๐ณ๐ช๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ฅ...“ , „๐๐ข๐ฏ ๐๐๐ญ ๐ข๐ญ๐ญ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐ฑ๐ข๐ช๐ฏ ๐ข๐ธ๐ข๐บ...“ ), which Brian is simply brilliant at. But above all, the song conveys a truly lived pain that none of us would want to experience.

.../***/ “These are words someone had smeared with lipstick on the wall of my house before doing something very stupid. They made a deep impression on me. My Sweet Prince is another song that wrote itself. It all happened at a time when someone very close to us was experiencing a personal tragedy. It was about our friend and my ex-girlfriend who had come close to death. It was very sad and hard to swallow."

.../***/ It was a very dark period of my life. I mean, and yeah, the song is essentially about a choice, about a breakdown between two romances. One with a person, and one with the ... with a substance. .../***/
And I’d never been responsible before for anyone’s attempted suicide and well, that was very difficult for me to deal with. That song, I just, well, it sort of vomited itself forward, it had to be written. It happened while we were demo-ing the second album and that song wrote itself about a week after the fact. Basically it really really affected us in a very big way, all of us." .../***/

Alcopops, VHS tapes, cigarettes, boys, MSN Messenger, Placebo - this is 2003. Set on the Isle of Wight, fragments of the director's own teenage video diaries collide with the fictional story of 15-year-old Tommy in this short film about a boy's search for connection in the advent of the internet age. Infatuated with his best friend's boyfriend and unable to truly reveal himself to anyone, Tommy feels an overwhelming sense of isolation on the small chalk island he calls home. Desperate to be seen, he logs on to family computer, clicks connect and opens MSN.

Dear soulmates, it was clear from the beginning that Placebo lullabies would reveal painful themes, often connected to our personal experiences.
