Well, ๐‘บ๐’•๐’†๐’‡๐’‚๐’, ๐‘บ๐’•๐’†๐’—๐’† ๐’‚๐’๐’… ๐‘ฉ๐’“๐’Š๐’‚๐’ answered this question asked by David Boberts at a conference in 1998. And here are their answers:

๐Ÿ’ฌ ๐™Ž๐™๐™€๐™‘๐™€: The world needs Placebo because there's too much f*****g Seventies rock around and there's not enough that's fresh or trying to be original.

๐Ÿ’ฌ ๐™Ž๐™๐™€๐™๐˜ผ๐™‰: The world needs a bit of aural excitement.

๐Ÿ’ฌ ๐˜ฝ๐™๐™„๐˜ผ๐™‰: The world needs us because our record collections are far superior to the rest of the world's. We're stealing all the best bits, and our contemporaries are stealing all the bad bits.

๐Ÿ”ท Even though all three answers are true and a bit ironic too, the one that appeals to me the most is Stefan's. Because that's exactly how I feel when I press the 'play' button. I'm not only overwhelmed with excitement, but also overwhelmed with bliss. Everything is in the right place with Placebo.
It's such an exceptionally good music, capable of sending me on cloud nine. No need for yoga classes for me ! ๐Ÿ˜„

๐Ÿ”ท On a more serious note, artists like Placebo are needed for their various commitments to people in need, to people suffering from serious illnesses. The fact that they use their fame for beneficial and humanitarian purposes is to their credit and commands respect. Their latest album is, I think, a good example of this commitment that Brian and Stefan have shown. Awareness of the state of our world is a long and difficult road.
