A few moments before electrifying the arenas of Avenches on Thursday evening, Stefan Olsdal (co-founder and bassist of Placebo) recalled the smooth journey of the British power pop trio and their first musical loves, while Brian Molko clowned around and Steve Forrest took advantage of the jacuzzi installed backstage.

πŸ“’Success, however desired, is impossible to predict. No band, no artist, can claim to have foreseen, from the start, that they would have planetary fame. When we started, we aimed for the moon, but our aspirations were romantic. We dreamed, for example, of playing in legendary venues in England, such as the Brixton Academy in London, where we had seen our favorite bands perform. And since our second album we were performing in these same rooms. It was amazing to be there!

πŸ“’We are not at the point of telling ourselves that we have accomplished all that we could. We still have ambitions, challenges to meet, ideas. Musically, there are new sounds to discover, new ways of playing our instruments and numerous collaborations with other artists.

πŸ“’I grew up in the disco atmosphere of the 1980s, with ABBA, Bee Gees and Barry White. That's what gave me love for pop music. Then, I had a rock period when I discovered Led Zeppelin. So I started to play guitar. Then I was fascinated by the way The Beatles composed and arranged their songs. Later, Brian Molko introduced me to alternative rock: Sonic Youth, Pixies, PJ Harvey, and Radiohead.

πŸ“’I feel that I have to be open, it can only enrich me. I like to delve into the past and listen to Johnny Cash or Bob Dylan again, but also stay awake to feel where the trend is going today. I just discovered a psychedelic hip-hop artist, Gonjasufi, who is absolutely fascinating and who shows that it’s no longer possible to create a new musical genre. The novelty comes exclusively from mixing genres.

πŸ“’I've been keeping a personal diary since 1986. So many things have happened in my life, especially since the adventure with Placebo, that I want to keep as many memories as possible. Time passes so quickly that sometimes I’m afraid of losing my bearings. That's why I put my life on paper.
