There are laws there that make it very difficult for people to express themselves, kiss or love the people they love. ๐๏ธI think there is a visibility that didn't exist before in popular culture and in general. When we started in the nineties, in the Britpop era, with a singer wearing makeup and a skirt, it was something very strange and attracted a lot of attention. I think now, that's not so weird. The struggle is not over yet, but I think we're moving forward on a lot of sides.
๐๏ธWe are musicians and what interests us is to express ourselves honestly in our music and in our lyrics. To tell our truth. It has always been like that and it still is. So, if we're political, it's because we're telling our version of life and what we believe... Which is fine. But, as artists, we just want to express ourselves as honestly as possible.
๐๏ธThis is the eighth album, so we wanted to start it in a different way. What we did was to start with the cover photography and the creation of some song titles. We worked on the opposite trajectory to what we normally do to try to make an album a little different from the previous ones. Whether it is or not, I don't know, but for us it was important to do it in a different way to appreciate and re-evaluate what we have and our sound, to look for our identity in 2021.

What is happening everywhere with computers and also the environment which is the main topic in one of the songs. Let's see, the music this time we wanted it to have a more layered sound with a lot more keyboards than before. There's a lot of synthesizers on this record, for example, on the first single 'Beautiful James', there's a synthesizer that stars on it. ๐๏ธYes, you have to choose. For example, as we were starting this interview; when we went to Russia, I tried to do something that was very important to me and to help in the way I could. I think we have to do what we can and if we are supporting in our own way it is a resounding yes. There is a list and if I read it, it is very long, but we are very aware of what is going on and we are doing the little we can do to do what is best for the future, but sometimes it is hard to have hope, isn't it? At the end of the day we are musicians and we are here to express ourselves. There's not much time for much else right now.
๐๏ธI have been spending months in Spain for a long time. I have many friends there and now also a musical project with another Spanish artist. And I don't know, the language has been calling me for a long time. I think it's because I'm from Northern Europe, I'm from Sweden, so I'm looking for something that's the opposite... I'm looking for the warmth. Maybe I'm looking for a mentality that is the opposite of the north, of the cold of Sweden.

๐๏ธSwedish is very musical, it goes up and down a lot, it's very melodic. There are harder languages. The problem is that I found my singer Brian in a small country where they speak French, too... He speaks French very well. The problem is that you know too many languages, they get mixed up in your head; but, having languages in life is something to be grateful for. I am very grateful to have Spanish in my life.

๐๏ธYes, I think that, spending a lot of time there, in Madrid, I met a lot of people, a lot of musicians. As you say, it was very organic because my interests in music are quite broad. So, when we met, it was to explore, to do something new together and completely different from Placebo. I don't know, it's a search. We are always looking for something new, to do something different and with Placebo I had a couple of gaps. I like doing things, making music, so it was quite natural.

Yeah, it's been a bit of a shock and it's just that we have to start the machine again, get out into the world. We're looking forward to playing live again, of course, because it's necessary for us.
