🎤 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧: I've always been attracted by bands or artists who had strong images. If you have a strong image, you need to have music that is as strong, as sophisticated and as complex to support it. Otherwise we become something like Milli Vanilli, we become a triumph of style beyond substance. The idea of being in a rock band that gives everything, that gives a strong image, strong music, intelligence, a philosophy and passion was the idea when we started.

🎤𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧 : Yes, and we've always been attracted to fashion. But it took us maybe four or five years to have enough money to buy nice clothes.

🎤𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧: Good question. I am an American who has never lived in the United States. My father is French and Italian, my mother is Scottish. They met in the 60s in New York and got married. They had my brother there and then ten years later, when the latex broke, and voila... I was born.

🔹𝐆𝐞́𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐋𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭: 𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚 𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐱 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭?

🎤𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧: Ah yes I think so. My father is a banker so we ended up in Luxembourg. I’ve lived a little bit in Lebanon and Liberia in Africa. I followed my father everywhere to places where there were lots of banks. In Luxembourg, there are only banks, that's all.

🎤𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧 : I've never had neither patriotic nor nationalistic feelings. We feel like a band. Placebo doesn't feel like a British band. There's a guy from Manchester, a guy from Sweden, and a guy who doesn't really know where he's from. I think we see ourselves more as a European band. The thing that was positive with Luxembourg is its international community because of the Parliament, etc. I grew up with lots of friends who had different nationalities. I think that it has opened me up to different cultures at a very young age, to different traditions. It taught me a lot. It teaches tolerance and understanding of others. I think it’s very important.

🔹𝐆𝐞́𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐋𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭: 𝐈𝐬𝐧'𝐭 𝐋𝐮𝐱𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐠 𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠?

🎤𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧: There is not much to do. Luxembourg is a strange place. It's a bit like David Lynch's TV series, Twin Peaks. It really is like that. On the surface, you really think that there's nothing going on and then when you go below the surface, there are follies occuring.

🎤𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧: I found his surreal side fascinating. Also the fact that he explores American culture and everything that is a little bit strange about American culture. Because America projects an image of respectability, freedom and strength. Actually, what's happening there is quite chaotic. I find his point of view on the United States very deep.

𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧: For two reasons. It's to create the idea of a mystery, as if it was music that would be banned. Something you should buy under the counter. But we knew very well that before the album was officially released that it would already be on the black market. It was a nod to what's going on with music on the internet these days.

Before we were really concerned with sexual politics rather than politics. Special K is not a song about drugs. It really is a love song. It compares the effect of going up, when we show on controlled substances. It compares this effect to love at first sight. The moral of the story is that whatever goes up must come down. Commercial For Levi is for me... There were times in my life when I made some pretty bad lifestyle choices. There were friends and close friends who said to me, "listen, listen, you're my mate, I love you, and if you keep doing what you're doing here, you're not going to be on Earth for much longer.". It's very important to have friends like that, especially when you become a public figure. It's very important to keep the friends who were your friends before you became this 'thing'. This thing you can buy.
