💚 Dear friends, today we have another trip with Placebo to Dundee. Last Wednesday I reminded you why Dundee is such an important city for the band.
Today we go back in time to 2017, when Placebo played in Dundee for the second time in their history.


💚 In 2017, during the 20th Anniversary Tour, Placebo were looking forward to the October expedition in the UK. The second concert was scheduled for a stop in Dundee.
From this concert I found some nice videos and a beautiful Stefan's interview.
But first of all, I have to say how lucky the fans in Dundee were to be able to see Placebo in their city. Because the very next day Brian started to have serious problems with his vocal cords, which escalated so much that 7 days later the band had to cancel 4 concerts before the final performance at Brixton Academy in London.
However, the concert in Dundee, where Brian was still really full singing, was very good. Is there a Dundonian among us who experienced this event?

Twenty years after releasing the breakthrough single Nancy Boy, Placebo are returning to Dundee’s Caird Hall on Sunday October 8. Here bassist Stefan Olsdal tells Michael Alexander why he is hoping for a ‘pseudo-religious experience’ in a city that ‘infiltrates’ the band’s lives.
As one half of 1990’s formed alternative rock band Placebo, guitarist-bassist Stefan Olsdal is “working his way through coffees” and still catching up on sleep following the band’s recent tour of Australia when The Courier calls him in London.
But it’s the band’s relationship with Dundee that the 43-year-old Swedish born ‘Nancy Boy’ artist is reflecting on ahead of Sunday night’s gig at the Caird Hall.
The City of Discovery is the band’s second stop on its 11-date 20th anniversary UK tour.
And it’s always been a special place for androgynous-looking lead singer Brian Molko whose mum is from Dundee and who was once quoted as saying it is “where I grew up”.
“Brian doesn’t really talk too much about his childhood to be honest,” says Stefan.
“But it’s just funny how Dundee seems to infiltrate our lives.
“Our manager is from Dundee, one of our crew is from Dundee, a band that we signed a publishing deal for – The Mirror Trap – is from Dundee. I don’t know what it is. There must be something in the water in Dundee!”
Stefan has fond memories of Placebo playing the Caird Hall in 2003.
He’s also visited for a wedding and, while he hasn’t been back recently, he hopes to find the time during this trip to explore the city’s on-going physical and cultural renaissance.

“It is with great regret that Placebo are unable to play the upcoming shows at Portsmouth Guildhall on 16th October and Swindon Oasis on 17th October this coming week.


Brian Molko has been suffering from throat problems which has badly affected his voice. The band were reluctant to cancel dates and let the fans down and pressed ahead with the shows in Reading and Cardiff over the weekend but it was clear that Brian was struggling to sing. Brian will now see a specialist in London asap and following that diagnosis, we will make further announcements regarding the shows. In the meantime fans are asked to hold onto their tickets and await further information via the agents you bought tickets from or on Placebo and Gigsandtours social media/online.
“Placebo would like to apologise to the fans for this disappointment and hope for better news soon.”


Placebo confirmed the news on Facebook just after 1pm on the same day.
The statement read:
"Dear fans and ticketholders,
Placebo are very sorry to announce that they will be unable to play their shows at Plymouth Pavillions on Friday 20th October and Wolverhampton Civic Hall on Saturday 21st October.
Brian Molko saw a specialist ENT doctor who has confirmed that Brian is suffering from a throat problem which is affecting his vocal chords and he needs treatment and complete rest for the next few days."
Brian said: “The band and I are absolutely devastated and very sorry for the disappointment and great inconvenience caused by this unfortunate situation. We really wanted to end our UK tour on a high to give thanks to our fans for your incredible support over the years.
It’s very painful being unable to play so many shows and we are so sad to have let you all down."
The band have confirmed that with rest and the appropriate treatment they are still hoping to perform the shows at Brixton Academy on Monday 23rd and Tuesday 24th October.📌

💚 My friends, I can imagine the great disappointment from the four canceled concerts, which were experienced by both the fans and the band and Brian himself.
He also had to deal with his mental state, with a feeling of failure. And the fans were forced to understand that their beloved singer is above all a human being, and that his health comes first and always in all circumstances.
