Placebo - I Know You Want To Stop (Minxus cover)

Dear soulmates,
I’d like to listen to ๐ˆ ๐Š๐๐Ž๐– ๐˜๐Ž๐” ๐–๐€๐๐“ ๐“๐Ž ๐’๐“๐Ž๐ with you tonight. Well, I know it’s not the most famous song of Placebo’s catalogue. And moreover, it is a cover. But that’s exactly what makes it interesting, I guess. Placebo’s choices about songs to cover reveal their peculiar taste and profound knowledge on different genres of music, pretty specific artists including less known bands.

๐Ÿ“That’s the case with ๐Œ๐ข๐ง๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ฌ, the UK indie rock band who were active in the 90s but enjoyed a short lived career. Gavin Pearce (guitar/vocal), She Rocola (bass) and Joe Whitney (drums) released only one album ๐‘ท๐’‚๐’ƒ๐’–๐’๐’–๐’Ž in 1995 and split up shortly after.

๐Ÿ“It’s hard for me to say how much popular ๐ˆ ๐Š๐ง๐จ๐ฐ ๐˜๐จ๐ฎ ๐–๐š๐ง๐ญ ๐“๐จ ๐’๐ญ๐จ๐ฉ was back in the mid90s but, in my opinion, it might not be remembered that well 25 years after if Placebo didn’t do their cover version of it.

⭐️A curious fact: I found out that ๐Œ๐ข๐ง๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ฌ played live with ๐€๐‚ ๐€๐œ๐จ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐œ๐ฌ whose frontman ๐‘ท๐’‚๐’–๐’ ๐‘ช๐’‚๐’Ž๐’‘๐’Š๐’๐’ happened to be Brian’s good friend (you may remember that he helped Brian with the lyrics for Every You Every Me, and the great line “There are twenty years to go” also belongs to him). However, looks like the members of Minxus, AC Acoustics and Placebo got to know each other back then. Most likely, a raw punky sound of ๐ˆ ๐Š๐ง๐จ๐ฐ ๐˜๐จ๐ฎ ๐–๐š๐ง๐ญ ๐“๐จ ๐’๐ญ๐จ๐ฉ stuck in the back of Brian’s head for years and just waited for a proper time…
Finally, it was released as a second song on a five-track Placebo ๐„๐ ๐๐Ÿ‘ on October 15th, 2012.

๐ŸŽถThe song was played live by Placebo four times in total, all during the series of ๐‘จ-๐‘น๐’๐’„๐’Œ ๐’†๐’—๐’†๐’๐’•๐’” in summer 2012: at Bataclan, Paris (June 22), Atlantico Live, Rome (25 June), Hรคrterei Club, Zurich, (June 28) and Docks, Hamburg (July 2).

Besides the video from Hamburg that I uploaded for you, there’s another one from Paris, unfortunately not of the best quality, but it’s a document still๐Ÿ˜Š

✨๐‹๐˜๐‘๐ˆ๐‚๐’✨
I know you want to stop
There is no return from this point on
Be glad for what you got
Maybe you won't take too long to burn
I recognize the smile
There are some things I cannot forget
It may be for a while
I'll pretend that we have never met
We have never met
We have never met
And maybe we will part
Will your paranoia keep you warm
I'll eat it from your heart
I will still enjoy to watch you fall
The credit starts too low
We take off our clothes and roll around
Boredom takes its toll
It shall be your eyes that let you down
Eyes that let you down
Eyes that let you down
You're still
You're still
You're still
Still...
I know you want to stop
I know you want to stop
Stop
You're still
You're still
You're still
Still...
You're still
You're still
You're still
Still...
I know you want to stop
Stop!
