🎤 "At one point in my life I stopped writing on the guitar to try to improve myself at the piano. I always find it difficult to play well in fact, but Drag is born that way. I had just fallen in love and I wanted to write something about feeling inferior to someone. When you fall in love, you see the other above you... "I'll always be in your shadow, you're wonderful." You find the person you love perfect and you feel like the only piece of shit on its shoe. It is also the only Placebo song that mentions the Seine! The working title was Across the Seine."

That's right dear soulmates, today we are gonna listen to "𝑫𝒓𝒂𝒈", the least dark song from "𝑴𝒆𝒅𝒔" the fifth album by 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆𝒃𝒐 since it's a love song with a chirpy melody of loud guitars and piano:
🎶"It's the most old school sounding Placebo track on this album, pure pop punk which we do well."

★ 𝙱𝚛𝚒𝚊𝚗 𝙼𝚘𝚕𝚔𝚘, 𝚇𝙵𝙼, 𝙼𝚊𝚛𝚌𝚑 2006.

However, in "𝑫𝒓𝒂𝒈" there is that duality with which 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆𝒃𝒐 likes to play in his songs because among all that love and admiration for the person you love reflected in the lyrics - an emotion that is very easy to identify with -, the song also has its dark side, it is mild but it is present in that feeling of inferiority and in that type of addiction that you feel when you fall in love.

☆ 𝑊𝒉𝑖𝑐𝒉 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑡𝒉𝑜𝑢𝑔𝒉𝑡𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑓𝑒𝑒𝑙𝑖𝑛𝑔𝑠 𝑎𝑏𝑜𝑢𝑡 𝑡𝒉𝑖𝑠 𝑠𝑜𝑛𝑔?

𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆𝒃𝒐 has played "𝑫𝒓𝒂𝒈" live 136 times in total, the first at the concert venue 𝑲𝑶𝑲𝑶 in London on January 24th, 2006 and the last on December 7th, 2008 at their magnificent concert in 𝑨𝒏𝒈𝒌𝒐𝒓 𝑾𝒂𝒕, Cambodia. The live version I chose for today was recorded at 𝑻 𝑰𝒏 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑷𝒂𝒓𝒌 festival on Saturday 8th July 2006 in Kinross, Scotland.

📌 𝑻 𝑰𝒏 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑷𝒂𝒓𝒌 festival was founded in 1994 by 𝑮𝒆𝒐𝒇𝒇 𝑬𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒔 and 𝑺𝒕𝒖𝒂𝒓𝒕 𝑪𝒍𝒖𝒎𝒑𝒂𝒔, its name comes from its main sponsor, the 𝑻𝒆𝒏𝒏𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝑪𝒂𝒍𝒆𝒅𝒐𝒏𝒊𝒂𝒏 𝑩𝒓𝒆𝒘𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝑼𝑲 𝑳𝒊𝒎𝒊𝒕𝒆𝒅. From 1994 to 1996 it took place at 𝑺𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒄𝒍𝒚𝒅𝒆 𝑪𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒚 𝑷𝒂𝒓𝒌, Lanarkshire; In 1997 it moved to a disused airfield located in Balado, Kinross-shire until 2014 and then moved one more time to 𝑺𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒂𝒏 𝑪𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒍𝒆 in Perthshire until its last edition in 2016. Initially it was held for two days and in 2007 was extended to three days. Over time, the festival grew so much that it became the second largest greenfield festival in the UK and the fifth largest in the world in terms of attendance. In 2017 the festival was canceled due to problems at the previous year's event and instead its founder held the 𝑻𝑹𝑵𝑺𝑴𝑻 festival in 𝑮𝒍𝒂𝒔𝒈𝒐𝒘 𝑮𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒏 on the same weekend as 𝑻 𝑰𝒏 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑷𝒂𝒓𝒌. 𝑻𝑹𝑵𝑺𝑴𝑻 festival was also held for the next two years. In July 2019, 𝑮𝒆𝒐𝒇𝒇 𝑬𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒔 declared that 𝑻 𝑰𝒏 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑷𝒂𝒓𝒌 would never take place again.

𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆𝒃𝒐 also played at 𝑻 𝑰𝒏 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑷𝒂𝒓𝒌 in 1996,1997 and 1999, but returning to their 2006 performance, I want to share a short interview that 𝑲𝒆𝒓𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒈 𝑴𝒂𝒈𝒂𝒛𝒊𝒏𝒆 did with 𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒏 𝑴𝒐𝒍𝒌𝒐 before their participation in this festival:

𝐃𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐚 𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥, 𝐨𝐫 𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐧𝐨 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲?

 
🎤 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧: I try and see as many bands as possible, then I go find the dance tent and dance the rest of the night away!

 
𝐈𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐚 𝐧𝐨𝐧-𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐲 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞?

 
🎤 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧: It's usually a bit more sedate than that, a bit more low-key, to be honest. And it depends what day you're playing - sometimes bands hang around at the festival after they've played, just partying, and by Sunday they're just...wasted! Not Placebo though, we're far too professional for that (grins).

 
𝐈𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐚 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐠𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐫?

 
🎤 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧: We take our Boney M toilet with us everywhere - it's a Disco Portaloo! It's diamond encrusted on the outside, like a mirrorball on the inside, and it plays 'The Rivers Of Babylon' when you flush. You have to don a lamé jacket before going in!

 
𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭'𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭-𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐞?

 
🎤 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧: I drink salt water - it sounds weird, but it contains a special sea salt which has electrolytes in it, which helps me rehydrate. And I like to get a massage afterwards, to calm myself down.
