So I want to concentrate on the relationship between Brian, Stefan and David and therefore I collected some quotes by them about our beloved Mr. Bowie.
Let me know what you think about the statements and please share your own thoughts and feelings about David with us.

๐ข “I learned a great deal from David. We really built a relationship because we were his favourite support band early on, so we ended up supporting him on two albums’ worth of tours. There is a certain amount of magic surrounding people like that – they have been through everything and so, just through spending time with them, you glean little bits of wisdom almost through osmosis.”
(NME Blog, Brian Molko – “What Rock’n’Roll has taught me“, 23rd October 2009)
๐ข “I’ve had a lot of time to meditate on a lot of what David said to me during the five or six years that we toured with him and I was in his orbit. He was my friend and my mentor. He gave me a lot of advice. [...] His presence is still there for me in the form of a sage and mentor.”

๐ข “David Bowie was a very important person for us because before we had a record deal, Bowie heard our demos and decided that we were going to tour with him. At that point I was living in a house that was paid for by the government with a couple of other guys. And we were really poor, so poor that we had to scrape our money together and decide on what we were going to eat every day. And then one day the phone rang and it was like, “Hello, would you like to go on tour with David Bowie?”
(Juice, March 2010)
๐ข “I remember him saying, 'Whatever you do, never ever lose your spontaneity'”.
(Metroguiltypleasures, October 4th 2017)
๐ข “David Bowie. He was somewhat of a mentor at the beginning of our career.”
(Time Out KL, March 2010)
๐ข "Morrissey pulled out of the Bowie European tour, he sort of disappeared for some reason. Through connections that we had through our agent we sent him a demo and he heard it and decided we were the band to fill Morrissey's place. Which is quite amazing really, we were quite shocked and we went on tour with Bowie in Europe, and a few months later we did it again and that kind of cemented our friendship really. He is a real big fan of the band and there is a lot of mutual respect going on now. It's quite amazing to talk to him as an equal and exchange ideas."
(Sessions "Role Reversal", May 1997)
๐ข Brian: “I remember telling you, David, that I actually stole a lyric from you. Have you found it yet?“
๐ข David: “Well, I heard something that may have had a passing resemblance to a certain wanking line.“
๐ข Brian: “No, I stole the phrase 'valuable friends' from "Ashes to Ashes".“
(Chat hosted by David Bowie, March 29th 1999)
๐ข “He is somebody I have so much respect for.“
(Juice, March 2010)
๐ข “I don’t know what he saw in us; maybe something of himself as a younger Bowie. Maybe there was an outsider element to a lot of what we were doing. Maybe it was the romanticism. Maybe it was the stubbornness of not wanting to fit in.”
(NME, October 24th 2018 )
๐ข “He was very comfortable in his own skin. Very open and generous with his time. One couldn’t wish for a better apprenticeship.“
(Metroguiltypleasures, October 4th 2017)
๐ข “Without you, your tutelage and your wisdom, I don’t think I would be where I am today, as an artist but also as a person. For that I will be eternally grateful.”

๐ข ”What happened was that David Bowie was touring his 'Outside' album around Europe and Morrissey was supporting him. And one day in Italy Morrissey, without telling his band, without telling his tour manager, took the tour bus and drove it all the way home to see his mother in England. So when everyone woke up in the morning the band asked, “Where’s Morrissey?” and David Bowie is going, “Where’s my support band?” And as luck had it, David Bowie and Placebo had the same booking agent and the booking agent said to Bowie, “Well, I have this demo of this new band that you might like.” This was before we had recorded our first album. So David Bowie heard our demo and on the strength of that alone he called up and said, “Hey, come and support me on my tour.” So Placebo went from playing shows in front of 300 people in a Pub in London to playing in front of 8,000 people in Italy. So it was like, “Holy Shit, we’ve jumped into the deep end and we’re crossing paths with David Bowie back stage.” [laughs].

๐ข Brian: "David fell completely in love with the song [“Without you I'm nothing”] when we played it together at the Brit awards. We were in New York at the same time, and he came in the studio to record it."
(The Sun Herald, Jul 22nd 1999)
๐ข Stefan: "It was very strange, one day he [David Bowie] called and said "Hey guys, I love what you do and especially 'Without you I'm nothing', I would be pleased to record it with you or cover it. What do you think ?" We said: "Ok, we will meet and see what we can do (laughs)!" And then you know, there was a sort of unease... It's Bowie and he conducts and wants to control everything... And then, finally he came to the studio and there he went to sing... how to say that ? We were there behind the window : "Fuck that's Bowie!" It was magical! I can't say it was a dream come true because I never think about it, but after the fact, I must admit it was one of the most thrilling and unforgettable time of my life."
