Interview with Brian Mollko, November 2009

Eleven years ago today, on November 27th 2009, I did an ♦๐—œ๐—ก๐—ง๐—˜๐—ฅ๐—ฉ๐—œ๐—˜๐—ช♦ with Brian when the band played a concert in my hometown Vienna. I'm not often nervous before interviews but I think you all can understand that this time I really was.

I was in a backstage room waiting for Brian and I remember how badly I wanted to smoke a cigarette to calm down, but there was no ashtray. Then Brian came in, and guess what he brought with him – the ashtray I needed so much! We shook hands and sat down on the couch. I still know that I looked into his eyes and thought: “Wow, this is really happening right now.“

We had 20 minutes to talk. It is very important to me to act professional in my job, but in this case I knew I couldn't hide that I am extremely nervous, and so I admitted that this was not business as usual for me because I've been a Placebo fan since the very beginning. Brian put his hand on my shoulder and said: “Don’t be afraid. I won't bite you.” This broke the ice for me because I found it quite funny. We started the conversation and I have to say that Brian was very nice and politely from the beginning to the end. I started to feel comfortable with the situation, and I also had the feeling that he answered my questions honestly.

Before our time was over we smoked a cigarette together and I asked Brian for a picture. He also signed a poster and dedicated it to me. Usually I don't ask for such things because I try to separate private from job. But hey, with this beginning of the interview every bit of professionalism was lost... ๐Ÿ˜‚ Anyway, I'm really grateful that I had the chance to meet Brian in person and I will never forget this special day.

The interview was printed in an Austrian newspaper, so the language in the original is German. The following translation back to English is just an excerpt.
