𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐘 𝐁𝐄𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐃 𝐀 𝐏𝐈𝐂𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐄: 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐟𝐚𝐧'𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐑𝐨𝐜𝐤 𝐎𝐳'𝐀𝐫𝐞̀𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥 𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟎

On August 12th 2010, Placebo performed at Rock Oz'Arènes festival in the city of Avenches, Switzerland. An annual event takes place in an ancient Roman amphitheater built in the 2nd century.
Today, I want to share an 𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐕𝐈𝐄𝐖 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐟𝐚𝐧 that he did before this festival. It was published on July 15th 2010 in 20 𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒖𝒕𝒆𝒔, a French-language Swiss edition of the same-titled German newspaper, and I translated it for you.

✨𝐖𝐄 𝐂𝐀𝐋𝐌𝐄𝐃 𝐃𝐎𝐖𝐍 𝐏𝐑𝐄𝐓𝐓𝐘 𝐌𝐔𝐂𝐇✨
All the same romantic, but already settled down, Placebo return to enchant the audience of the Rock Oz' festival again.

Placebo have nothing more to prove to anyone. With their flagship titles like “Nancy Boy”, “Every You Every Me”, “The Bitter End”, “Meds” or “Song to Say Goodbye” and 11 million albums sold worldwide, Brian Molko and his band have definitely entered the rock pantheon. Still, fans were afraid of the worst in 2007, a time of doubts and questions within the band, which seemed to be close to split up. Nevertheless, with a new drummer, Placebo last year released "Battle for the Sun", their revival album. A provocative image from their beginnings is gone. The band have settled down and want to let people know that. We had a phone chat with their guitarist Stefan Olsdal.

𝒀𝒐𝒖'𝒗𝒆 𝒃𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒂 𝒚𝒆𝒂𝒓. 𝑨𝒓𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒕𝒊𝒓𝒆𝒅?
No. We’re a bit old fashioned, we think performing live is the essence of a rock band. In addition, we had some extraordinary moments, like the concert in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The crowd was so colorful, men with pink turbans, veiled women, expatriates, teenagers, and they sang our songs in chorus. The cliché about music that it brings people together took on its full dimension that day.

𝑯𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒉𝒂𝒅 𝒍𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝒑𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒆𝒙𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆𝒔?
Yes, last summer in Japan we had to interrupt the tour due to Brian's sickness. We had set ourselves a hell of a schedule and our bodies couldn't take it.

𝒀𝒐𝒖'𝒗𝒆 𝒃𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝒕𝒐 𝑹𝒐𝒄𝒌 𝑶𝒛’ 𝒊𝒏 2000 𝒂𝒏𝒅 2003. 𝑯𝒐𝒘 𝒅𝒐 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒓𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒎𝒃𝒆𝒓 𝒊𝒕?
There was a good atmosphere each time. The amphitheater is truly magnificent. When you imagine that the Romans built this place so many years ago, you think they really knew what they were doing! If the stones could talk, they would have a lot of stories to tell us.

𝑯𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒅 𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒍𝒂𝒔𝒕 𝒗𝒊𝒔𝒊𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝑨𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒔?
Yes, of course. We are more experienced, we no longer live in a constant whirlpool of insecurity and excitement not knowing how the day will end. We calmed down pretty much. We party a lot less than before. Brian and I particularly.

𝑩𝒖𝒕 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒅𝒓𝒖𝒎𝒎𝒆𝒓?
Steve is still new to this business. He's all crazy and behaves like a kid in a candy store. Brian and I often make fun of him. He makes us laugh with his excited behavior.

A little interesting detail. At Rock Oz’ 2010, Placebo shared the stage with 𝑮𝒐𝒕𝒂𝒏 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒋𝒆𝒄𝒕, among others. Once I mentioned to you that Stefan said he would like to hear a cover of Placebo’s 𝑰𝒏 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑪𝒐𝒍𝒅 𝑳𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝑶𝒇 𝑴𝒐𝒓𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 by this exact band. I’m just curious, has Stef had an opportunity to see Gotan Project’s show as soon as he’s interested in the band and they played in Avenches at the same day?😉🥰
