‼ 𝐇𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 ‼
Today we have for you a translation of a completely new interview that the PLACEBO guys gave to the Polish TV channel on March 7, 2022.
We tried very hard to keep their answers exactly, even though it was sometimes very difficult due to the Polish translation.

𝑺𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒓𝒂: 𝑯𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒐 𝒈𝒖𝒚𝒔! 𝑯𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒐 𝑺𝒕𝒆𝒇𝒂𝒏, 𝒉𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒐 𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒏!
Brian: Hello there! This is very strange! We've never done an interview like this before.
𝑺𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒓𝒂: 𝑹𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚? 𝑾𝒐𝒐𝒘!
𝑰𝒕'𝒔 𝒃𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝒂 𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝒘𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒆 𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒍𝒂𝒔𝒕 𝒂𝒍𝒃𝒖𝒎. 𝒀𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒇𝒂𝒏𝒔 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒉𝒂𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒘𝒂𝒊𝒕 𝒂 𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆.
𝑺𝒐 𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒍 𝒖𝒔 𝒉𝒐𝒘 𝒊𝒕 𝒊𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒆 𝒃𝒂𝒄𝒌?
Brian: It's definitely a bit odd... For 25 years we were on the rock'n'roll treadmill and we've had a long time to think. Perhaps too much time to think...
It was a time to reflect on all our experiences... It was weird...
Stefan: It's weird we're still here...
𝑺𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒓𝒂: 𝑮𝒖𝒚𝒔, 𝑰 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒔 𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒏𝒆𝒘 𝒎𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒄 𝒗𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒐 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑩𝒆𝒂𝒖𝒕𝒊𝒇𝒖𝒍 𝑱𝒂𝒎𝒆𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑰 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔:
"𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒊𝒓 𝒎𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒄 𝒉𝒂𝒔 𝒃𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝒊𝒏 𝒃𝒐𝒕𝒉 𝒅𝒂𝒓𝒌𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝒎𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝒎𝒚 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆." 𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒅𝒐𝒆𝒔 𝒊𝒕 𝒎𝒆𝒂𝒏 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒅 𝒔𝒕𝒖𝒇𝒇 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕? 𝑾𝒂𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒈𝒐𝒂𝒍 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒃𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒈𝒆𝒕 𝒔𝒖𝒄𝒉 𝒍𝒐𝒚𝒂𝒍 𝒇𝒂𝒏𝒔?
Brian: We didn't think anybody was gonna like our music, you know, so it wasn't our motivation.
Our main motivation was to not have a real job. We wanted to be able to pay our bills, to fill the fridge and just to make a living by creating music.
I know it may sound egocentric, but we are making music for ourselves, first of all, and we could only hope that others would like it too. But first it should mean something to us. Because how could we communicate emotions to people if these emotions did not mean anything to us?

Brian: Right in this very moment?
Definitely World War III. In a more general way, in terms of climate, I fear we have crossed the point of no return. That is my biggest fear.
Stefan: We are living through this technical revolution, and development has an incredible pace. I have an impression that we still have not faced the long-term consequences it may bring. I think we can get absorbed by the technology and to not even realize that it has happened.
𝑺𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒓𝒂: 𝑮𝒖𝒚𝒔, 𝒊𝒔 𝒊𝒕 𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒓𝒆𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝑳𝑮𝑩𝑻 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒊𝒏 𝒂 𝒓𝒐𝒄𝒌'𝒏'𝒓𝒐𝒍𝒍 𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒚?
Brian: I think that because there is more of conversations in mainstream and social media and in general, there is an illusion that the world is a less prejudiced place.
Because we are talking about gender identity, sexuality, mental health... there's more conversation around than it was in the 80s-90s when we were growing up...
I think that the fact that people are talking more about it does not necessarily mean that the world has changed.
𝑺𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒓𝒂: 𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒏, 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝑯𝒖𝒈𝒛 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒉𝒖𝒈𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒔 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒎𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒕𝒓𝒖𝒕𝒉. 𝑰𝒔 𝒃𝒆𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂 𝒔𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒐𝒏 𝒂𝒏 𝒐𝒃𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒄𝒍𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒃𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝒐𝒓 𝒂𝒏 𝒂𝒅𝒗𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒈𝒆?
Brian: Absolutely, it's an obstacle. In order to be very very successful in a music business, you need to be a sociopath.

Brian: You should get rid of empathy and embrace narcissism.
𝑺𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒓𝒂: 𝑰 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒊𝒏 1999 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒘𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒐𝒑𝒆𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑫𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒅 𝑩𝒐𝒘𝒊𝒆. 𝑨𝒎 𝑰 𝒓𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕?
Brian: Yes, we've been playing with David since 1996 while promoting our first album.
𝑺𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒓𝒂: 𝑪𝒂𝒏 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒍 𝒖𝒔 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒅𝒊𝒅 𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒐𝒏 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒎𝒆𝒕 𝒉𝒊𝒎 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒇𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆?
Brian: Very generous with his time, very polite, a very good listener, he was genuinely interested in another person and treated everyone the same way, regardless of his status.
It didn't matter if he was talking to a waiter or a rock star. He would speak to these people with the same kind of respect.
I have to say, that he had great impact on me and made me a better person.
But I realized that after the fact, you know? When it was happening, I was either too arrogant or too drunk to notice.
𝑺𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒓𝒂: 𝑺𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒌 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 𝒎𝒖𝒄𝒉 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒄 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒈𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒖𝒔!
Brian, Stefan: Thank you!
