Placebo Anyway:
Its a pleasure for us to make this interview Eduardo. But before we speak about
the tour, we would like to know a little
bit more about you. When did you discovered the band and why did you become a
fan?
Edgardo Lynch: Well discovering Placebo was for me a chapter of my
life. It was during my teenage years that I started to listen to rock music and
I discovered what I liked. This was the beginning. Of knowing Placebo. I had heard Ramnstein and other bands thanks
to the famous discotheque Blondie in
Santiago, Chile. One day, I saw a Placebo video in the dining room at my house
and that song got stuck in my head for days, weeks later I saw Soulmates Never
Dies DVD and something strange happened, for the first time I liked every
single song of a band. From then on I couldn't let go. I think the main reason
for me to become a fan was that their depressive music came into my life during
a depressive period in my life:
adolescence.
Placebo Anyway:
In Latin America there are many clubs and fan groups dedicated to the band .are you in one of them?
Edgardo Lynch: Yes, in the beginning I was in Placebo.CL fan club
that no longer exist but nowadays I'm a collaborator of Soulmates Chile and
kind of manager, sort to speak since there are not specific titles, we are all
one. And I'm in charge of the managment and production of Soulmates Chile. I
also know the guys from other Soulmates pages from Latin America like
Argentina,Mexico,Peru and Ecuador.
Placebo Anyway:
Is there any difference between South American Placebo fan and the rest?
Edgardo Lynch: Well in South America we are very passionate, and I'm
not the only one saying it. Placebo, along with other bands that have come here,
have said it. In my country there is a real devotion to Brian Molko. There used
to be partys held at Blondie discotheque to celebrate his birthday (I can give
you the links) Soulmates Chile had more than 100 fans in its meetings in 2005
and it must be one of the oldest in Placebo fan club in the World. The euphoria
is such that in 2007 many fans were to the airport to wait for them. Brian was
shocked by the way they squeezed and chased him, they even grab his butt :D and
he got really mad. The next day , their
arrival was in several newspapers because of the chaos. The first time they
came here there were 16.000 fans in their two gigs. All the love for Brian and
Placebo is a religion here in Chile. I
think that it is the reason why nobody could see them this year in Chile (
security measures ) because they know that Chilean people are really euphoric.
Placebo Anyway:
Ok changing the topic, what about your cd and merchandising collection?
Edgardo Lynch: Is not as big as it should be being myself such a
dedicated fan. The last thing I bought was the LLL super deluxe box set, other than that, I got their albums, some vinyls like Meds, and some singles like
WYIN. I also have the official credentials from 2005 OMWF and 2007 MEDS tour
and now from the LLL tour, 2014, plus the-shirts, bracelets, headbands, pins . I have got the official t-shirt from 2005 tour, the
BFTS one and the LLL one.
Placebo Anyway:
Have you been to all of their concerts lately?
Edgardo Lynch: I have been to all of their concerts in Chile. The
first time I went I was 16 in 2005 then I went in 2007, 2010 at the Movistar Arena
and again this year. So I have seen them 5 times.
Placebo Anyway:
How was this tour for you?
Edgardo Lynch: I have had mixed feelings this time. I felt sad and happy at the same time, I met
a lot of new people but I was saddened by not seeing them in person, apart from
the show, and the fact that I had to wait so much to see them again.
Placebo Anyway:
Did you wait for them at the hotel or airport?
Edgardo Lynch: Yes we went to the airport. And we waited for 10
hours with other people from the fan club and we couldn't see them. We only saw
Hayden and the staff, but it was nice.
Meeting new people and sharing with them was nice. We made new friends with beautiful
people. After waiting for them all day ,the day before the concert, we went to
the hotel, the day after the concert, and we couldn't see anybody either. We
learned that Brian arrived on the day of the gig. And we learned in which hotel
they were staying when they have already left. Everything was kept a secret.
Placebo Anyway:
Why was this time different regarding security?
Edgardo Lynch: It has to be that Brian hates harassment, and here in Chile that already happened once.
Now everything is more private on their account.
Placebo Anyway:
What do you wish for the next tour in your country?
Edgardo Lynch: Well I wish they did a secret show like they did in
Peru and maybe a signing like in Mexico but not so restrictive. I hope It could
happen one day.
Placebo Anyway:
Brian's lack of communication with fans has been widely criticized. What do you
think about it?
Edgardo Lynch: I do understand him in a way. Sometimes I wish he would speak more with the
fans that care about him and love him but as he has said before, he expresses himself
through his songs. It's his way and he doesn't have to do it any other
way. Although I think that his silence
in the last few years is due to his career and the loneliness he feels because
of his lifestyle.
Placebo Anyway:
Define Brian, Stefan and Steve in three words.
Edgardo Lynch: Soulmates Never Die.
Placebo Anyway:
20 years to go, 20 years to know. The band's 20th anniversary. What do you
expect. For the band for the next 20 years?
Edgardo Lynch: I just wish for them to keep making music and don't
retire from the business. It would be a shame not to have them anymore. And I also wish that they can keep creating
that magical music that brightens our souls.

have this interview and to be able to represent in this way South America. And

Anyway: Un placer poder realizar una entrevista
contigo Edgardo. Antes de hablar sobre la última gira, nos
gustaría saber un poco más sobre tus comienzos con Placebo. ¿Cuándo descubriste la banda y qué fue la razón para
hacerte fan de Placebo?
Edgardo Lynch: Bueno el descubrir a
Placebo fue un pasaje en mi vida ya que en mi adolescencia fue el paso a
empezar a escuchar música rock, ese cambio en mi vida y a establecer mis gustos
y a descubrir lo que me gustaba fue el inicio de conocer a Placebo, antes
conocí a Rammstein y otras bandas producto
de la famosa discoquete Blondie de Santiago de Chile. Pero un día vi un vídeo de ellos en el
comedor de mi casa y la canción me quedó repitiendo en mi cabeza por varios
días sin poder despegarme, luego a las semanas vi el Dvd Soulmates Never Die y encontré algo raro en mi porque era la
primera vez que me gustaban todas las canciones de un grupo musical de ahí en
adelante no me pude despegar nunca más de ellos. Creo que la razón principal de
hacerme fans de ellos es que su música depresiva llegó a mi vida en una época
que también era depresiva, la adolescencia.
Placebo Anyway: En
América Latina / del Sur hay muchos clubes dedicado a la banda británica.
¿Estás en algún club de fans de Placebo?
Edgardo Lynch: Sí, en un principio
estuve en el fans club Placebo.CL
que ahora ya no está, pero actualmente soy colaborador de Soulmates Chile y parte de la directiva por así decirlo ya que no
hay cargos específicos, somos todos uno, y me encargo del fanspage de Soulmates Chile y otras labores
administrativas y de producción, también conozco a los chicos de soulmates de
toda Latinoamérica como Argentina, México, Perú y Ecuador.
Placebo Anyway: ¿Hay
algo que distingue el fan de Placebo de Sur América, especialmente de tu país
Chile del resto de los fans o nos ves a todos muy similares?
Edgardo Lynch: Bueno en América del
Sur somos muy eufóricos, y no lo digo yo solamente lo dice Placebo y muchas
otras bandas que vienen, en mi país siempre se ha distinguido por la devoción que
hay hacia Brian Molko, antiguamente
se hacían fiestas en discoteque Blondie para celebrar su cumpleaños Soulmates Chile llegó a tener más de 100 fans en sus reuniones
en el año 2005 y debe ser uno de los fans club más antiguos del mundo de Placebo,
la euforia es tanta que en el año 2007 fueron muchos fans al aeropuerto a
esperarlos y Brian quedo en shock tanta que lo apretaron y persiguieron, le
llegaron a tocar el poto (ass) xD, y él se enojó mucho. Al otro día salió en
varios diarios la llegada de Placebo a Chile por lo caótica que fue su llegada.
la primera que vinieron reunieron 16mil ellos sólo en tan solo 2 días, el amor
a Brian y Placebo es una religión y devoción acá en Chile. Creo que por eso
nadie pudo verlos este año en Chile porque saben que en Chile es demasiada
eufórica la gente.

Placebo Anyway: ¿Qué
tal tu colección de discos, merchandising etc.? ¿Tienes una colección completa?
Edgardo Lynch: Mi colección no es
tan grande como debería ser, para lo fan que soy de la banda. Ahora lo último
que me compré fue el super deluxe box
de Loud Like Love, pero aparte de
eso tengo sus discos de estudio algunos vinilos como el de Meds y algunos discos singles como Without You I'm Nothing, también tengo las credenciales oficiales
de los conciertos del 2005 tour OMWF
y del 2007 tour Meds, y ahora del
tour Loud Like Love 2014, muchas
chapitas de la banda, cintillos, las poleras del fans Placebo.cl , la polera
oficial de tour del 2005, una oficial del tour Battle For The Sun y ahora una nueva oficial que me compré el día
del concierto de Loud Like Love
tour, eso más que nada.
Placebo Anyway: ¿Has
ido a todos los conciertos los últimos años?
Edgardo Lynch: He
ido más que a los últimos shows, en realidad he ido a todos los shows de
Placebo en Chile, los 2 primeros fueron en 2005 cuando apenas tenía 16 años,
luego fui al del 2007, después al de 2010 en Movistar Arena y ahora este año a
Movistar Arena de nuevo por su última gira LLL. En total los he visto 5 veces
en mi vida.
Placebo Anyway: ¿Cómo
has vivido esta gira? LLL tour 2014!!!
Edgardo Lynch: Esta
gira la he vivido con muchas emociones encontradas, me he sentido triste y
feliz a la vez, conocí a mucha gente, pero me entristece no haberlos podido ver
a Placebo a parte del show y tener que esperarlo tantos años de nuevo.
Placebo Anyway: Le
has esperado también a la banda en el hotel y/o en el aeropuerto. ¿Cómo fue la
experiencia para ti?
Edgardo Lynch: Sí,
fuimos al aeropuerto. Esta gira y los esperamos 10 horas con más gente del fans
club y no pudimos verlos, sólo vimos a Hayden y el staff, pero la experiencia
fue muy linda. El hecho de haber compartido con tanta gente y conocerlos. Eso
fue lo bonito de esta vez. Se hicieron muchas amistades con gente linda.
Después de esperarlos todo el día, que fue el día anterior del show, al día
siguiente del concierto fuimos al hotel y tampoco pudimos ver a nadie, ya que
supimos que Brian llegó el mismo día del concierto al hotel y el resto de la
banda supimos cuando ya se habían ido. En qué hotel estaban hospedados todo fue
muy secreto esta vez por parte de la banda.
Placebo Anyway: ¿En
otras giras no era tan secreto? ¿Por qué esta vez? ¿Cuál crees que ha sido el motivo?
Edgardo Lynch: El
motivo tiene que ser que Brian odia que
le acosen, y acá en Chile ya pasó por eso entonces. Ahora es todo más privado y secreto por parte
de ellos, creo yo.
Placebo Anyway: ¿Qué
deseas para la siguiente gira de Placebo a tu país?
Edgardo Lynch: Me
encantaría que dieran un show privado para los más fans y una firma de
autógrafos y que no sea tan restrictiva como lo fue en México. Espero que se
cumpla algún día.
Placebo Anyway: Muchas
veces ha sido muy criticada la falta de comunicación de Brian.. ¿Qué te parece
y cuál piensas puede ser la razón de su “silencio”?
Edgardo Lynch:
De cierta manera lo entiendo. A veces, aunque
me da pena que se comunique poco con los fans que son los que más le conocemos
y queremos, al fin y al cabo, pero como él mismo lo ha dicho, él se expresa a
través de sus canciones. Ese es su medio y no tiene porque hacerlo de otra
forma. Aunque el silencio de los último años, creo que se debe a su carrera y
al sentirse sólo con el tipo de vida que lleva.

espero que sigan haciendo música, y que no se retiren. Sería una pena que la
banda no existiera con el paso de los años. Y sigan creando esa música tan
mágica y que nos alegra el alma a todos.
